Biden Infrastructure Bill Mandates Vehicle Kill Switches By 2026 (musclecarsandtrucks.com)

For those that have no interest in reading the above, if link works, the story states that the infrastructure bill and another put forth in '21 by 2 D's and 2 R's, would require all new vehicles built to have a monitoring system in them to cut down on dui's. Exactly how is not addressed by the article nor the bills.

So I have a few questions just to throw out for throwing sake...
1) if vehicle is monitoring the input of the driver for dui tendencies, and you swerve to miss another vehicle, kid on a bicycle, or a moose, is vehicle monitoring system going to think you are dui and shut you down?
2) if you're hitting the go-pedal a little harder than normal, is system going to think you are dui and shut you down?
3) if said system decides you are dui, and shuts your down and you're in traffic at 70mph, then what? Sounds like an accident waiting to happen
4) you don't tow the .gov line, system shut down via button?

I contacted NHTS yrs ago about all these new "safety" features current vehicles have. Auto braking, cross traffic sensors, blah blah blah.
I asked them whats going to happen when new drivers, that grow up with this tech, gets in a car either without it, or the tech malfunctions when the driver has become dependent upon it? Accidents are going to happen. They thanked me for my concerns, end of story.

😬Heck, my co-worker who is 51 cannot backup without the backup camera. But he can't drive forwards neither.....

Just venting.

'84 Rabbit diesel. Only thing elec in it is starter, alt and lights. No radio. No heat. 0-60 in 5 miles. Will smoke everything behind it
LOL!! Yeah, I remember those. There aren't too many of them around anymore. No radio wasn't really an issue, you probably couldn't hear it anyway. LOL!! A friend of mine had a Ford Ranger with a diesel in it, same thing, no radio, I couldn't have heard it. Heck, we could barely even yell loud enough to have a conversation. Maybe a really good fit for old farts that can't hear anymore. LOL!!

My 2018 Ram Diesel has after market tuner. It improved performance and millage. They use to also have a version that would Delete the need foe Def. Government stepped in fined all the companies thousands of dollars and now they no longer can provide that. My Tune isn't allowed on Trucks in Ca. How soon before other states like NY where I live decides to go the same way

You can't do that. All of the cars on the road would be dead in the middle of the street.

I'll bet 90% of Millennials and Generation Z couldn't drive a vehicle with a manual gearshift and clutch today.

My 20 yo nephew was completely flabbergasted by the 3-speed on the column shifter and foot clutch on my old '73 Ford F100.

Heck. I'd have one hell of a career ahead of me if I could open a business removing kill switches.

Don't really need it. Your phone is doing all of this work now in real time, all they have to do is get google/verizon to give it to them.

EDIT: Just remembered this little beauty. You can bet all of this is better now and going straight to the gubmint live.

EDIT EDIT: The real reason for doing any of this to an automobile is to restrict your mobility (Duh) :) There are an infinite number of reasons the gubmint could want to do this, the main one being they do not like you.

I'll show them; I will not like them back...

If I remember my history correctly, in the early 2000's we tried to sell vehicle tracking to GM. Had the engine shutoff, panic buttons, GPS tracking, etc. They turned us down, said they were developing their own, with even more features. I'd be willing to bet that OnStar has it built in already. One more reason to not connect blue tooth to your vehicles.

I have a kill switch option as part of the anti theft stuff. GPS trackers, the works. It saves me a lot of money on insurance. As does the radar, cameras, and collision avoidance system.

The difference is I have these things by choice and have total control over their usage.

And it's a semi worth 160k.
correction.. you THINK you have total control, but you don't... THEY do
