Biden Infrastructure Bill Mandates Vehicle Kill Switches By 2026 (musclecarsandtrucks.com)
For those that have no interest in reading the above, if link works, the story states that the infrastructure bill and another put forth in '21 by 2 D's and 2 R's, would require all new vehicles built to have a monitoring system in them to cut down on dui's. Exactly how is not addressed by the article nor the bills.
So I have a few questions just to throw out for throwing sake...
1) if vehicle is monitoring the input of the driver for dui tendencies, and you swerve to miss another vehicle, kid on a bicycle, or a moose, is vehicle monitoring system going to think you are dui and shut you down?
2) if you're hitting the go-pedal a little harder than normal, is system going to think you are dui and shut you down?
3) if said system decides you are dui, and shuts your down and you're in traffic at 70mph, then what? Sounds like an accident waiting to happen
4) you don't tow the .gov line, system shut down via button?
I contacted NHTS yrs ago about all these new "safety" features current vehicles have. Auto braking, cross traffic sensors, blah blah blah.
I asked them whats going to happen when new drivers, that grow up with this tech, gets in a car either without it, or the tech malfunctions when the driver has become dependent upon it? Accidents are going to happen. They thanked me for my concerns, end of story.
😬Heck, my co-worker who is 51 cannot backup without the backup camera. But he can't drive forwards neither.....
Just venting.
