9mm magnum would not fit reg 9mm, but reg 9mm would run in PDW.

Ive had some Spanish 9mm SMG ammo in the past that would probably fit that bill. Less than 2000 rounds of it trashed the upper on my SWD M11/9mm. The gun also ran noticeably faster/harder than any of the other 9mm I shot through it. Ive shot a bunch of different makes of surplus 9mm that was supposed to be SMG only ammo, and that stuff was the hottest of the lot.

As was mentioned, 9mm +P+ has been around all along and the mid-weight stuff is basically equivalent to 357SIG in its standard loading with the same weight bullet.

After fooling around with a lot of this kind of stuff for quite a while now, Ive come to the conclusion that its not worth the extra money and wear and tear on the guns to try and soup up something that's not really going to be much different souped up. And nothing in 99.5% of the pistol calibers, +P+ or magnum, etc, is going to pierce a soft vest. If you want more power, there are better things available in a similar sized package.

Not completely true, the extractor holds on to the case.
Shoot plenty of .40 in 10mm barrel. Zero issues. Not just me either.
Now, i would not depend on a setup like that for my life, but fine for a little range plinking.

If I remember my ancient history
The 9mm Mauser export round was 9x25
Since the round was developed in the early
1900s to push a 127 grain bullet at 1300 fps
I’m guessing there would be room to hot rod
it a bit

unfortunately it would need to be a magazine
In front of the trigger guard like the c96 mauser

also there already is a 9mm magnum
It is 9x29

Take the 500 S&W cartridge. Make it rimless. Neck it down to 9mm. Load it at hot as possible. Design a pistol that can handle it. Hold on firmly, but not too tight. Ignore that song saying to hold on loosely, but definitely don't let go.

Call the round the 9mm Joepocalypse Bidenator Ultra-MAGAnum, and call the pistol the De-Lung-Alizer 2024.

If you want “moar” than 9mm offers in your PDW…there are already 15-20 options. No need to limit yourself to 9mm diameter.

Personally, I’d kind of like to go 7.62 Tokarev, but the .357 Sig is a nice modern alternative.

And with the modern guns, you may as well just step up to 7.62x39 or 5.56.

But, on the other hand…...45 ACP makes suppression a viable and effective option.

I wish someone would offer something new domestically in 7.62 Tokarev so more shops would carry it. It is a pretty hot little round, but isn't as easy to locate as I'd like. I have a few things chambered in it and don't shoot them often because it is harder to find and flings the brass who knows where so its hard to recover it to reload. The only issue that I'd have with it for personal defense is the penetration. As in, it may overpenetrate.
In my opinion 9mm is a pretty good overall round just as it is. Anything 9mm cartridge other than the 9x19 has the same issues as 7.62 Tok when it comes to availability from what I've seen on the shelf.
Personally if I feel like I need a bit more thump, I'd go 45 ACP also. Its got enough mass and slow enough speed to pretty much deliver all the energy into the target and I see it stocked often.

I know someone with an AR pistol in 5.56 and one in 7.62x39. They tell me the 7.62x39 one is actually a lot more pleasant to shoot than the 5.56. For just shooting at the range that's great. For defensive, I'd think I would sacrifice my comfort as the shooter for it to be even more uncomfortable for my target. But I'm not sure between 5.56 and 7.62x39 which would have the advantage for defense.
The good thing about the pistol rounds though is the weapon size doesn't have to be as physically large.

I don't know that "...the 7.62x39 one is actually a lot more pleasant to shoot than the 5.56.", they're both loud as hell out of short barrels and throw large fireballs, but the 7.62 doesn't have as bad of a "crack" (for lack of a better term) or concuss the same as the 5.56. I can (but don't) shoot an AK pistol with just muffs, but I want plugs and muffs with short ARs, especially indoors or even covered ranges; I tend to wear plugs and muffs a lot more these days now that I'm getting older and maybe/hopefully a touch smarter. The 5.56 doesn't lose as much velocity from short barrels as some like to claim but the bullet itself is more dependent on velocity than the 7.62x39 which retains more energy by virtue of a heavier round (K.E. = ½ mv 2); you have a much better selection of bullets for 5.56 though and it's easier to tailor your load for the gun. They're both fun to shoot though. 😁

Well sure. 9mm has dropped grizz and moose, and I don't consider myself unarmed with one.

But sometimes a little more HP is nice. Reassuring. A lot more is better; but a moderate amount more is better than nothing.
