Good riddance. I found out because several African American people I'm friends with on facebook posting "RIP RODNEY KING"

How can anyone mourn this scumbag? He's been in and out of prison and in trouble with the law for nearly his entire life. He was on parole when the beating took place, he was clearly evading arrest, driving recklessly while intoxicated and putting many at risk and then resisting arrest. The stupid incident incited riots that caused millions of dollars in damages to LA, several deaths and many injuries.

Glad this POS is dead.

I can't be happy about this guy's demise.
He was a common ne'er-do-well, who was manipulated into a symbol, much like James Brady and Trayvon Martin.
The scumbags that beat Reginald Denny, now they will grace the planet when they depart, if they haven't already.
The idiots who burned down their own neighborhoods, the losers that used these tragedies for thier own benefit (paging Mr Sharpton, Mr Jackson)... These are the people who are the real villains.

Just curious but do your "African American friends" call themselves African Americans or do they just call themselves "Black".
I ask because a black friend of mine was talking about someone and said that "black guy"
I've never heard a black guy call another black guy "African American"

Playing the race card or calling me a racist is nothing to me. Scum is scum. the man deserved to be beaten by the police and we are better without him. If the police were allowed to do a few more "Rodney King" events. the courts would be less crowded. I have no problem with the police beating h*ll out of a person who risk lives trying to evade arrest. I do have problems with people who call me a racist and expect me to be emberassed or to cow down.

The info in this post will be lost in the shuffle of other issues as it was by the media at the time, but there's another issue beyond race, police brutality allegations and the usual factors.

There was a symantic, tactical and use of force problem that is still not being fully corrected.

The police were instructed to gain compliance. In Prisons they gain control, that difference can be enormous.

With compliance as an objective, the suspect must comply with instructions. If he's unwilling to comply, and is willful, determined, mentally off, intoxicated or for whatever reason refusing to obey, it's possible to beat him to death without getting compliance. The strike or series of strikes, assess, and instruct, note a lack of compliance and recommence the impact weapons is destructive and looks bad, as it is.

in contrast...

With the objective of control, one provides orders but the goal is to place the individual into restraints and physically move him to where he can be secured and processed-to a cell in segregation in prison or to jail. Instead of demanding a person comply, he can simply be overwhelmed by individuals securing each limb, placing him in restraints and loading him in a car. With a trained team that works together it can be done swiftly. It's abrupt, but it's not a beating and there's no need to keep striking a person waiting for compliance. It's also possible to do without any impact weapons.

I know that most don't care about or don't understand the semantics of use of force, but it's fascinating that the media and public couldn't get past seeing the strikes without seeing them being measured and realize it's a philosophical and tactical problem.

On the bright side, at least he wasn't doing bath salts and running around naked trying to eat someone's face!
