Well, a totally objective person might take a real close look at other countries which embrace this diversity goal and consider whether they REALLY want to live somewhere like that.

UK? Those riots started when a black guy was killed and they are having a lot of trouble with honor killings and sharia questions in their community that we are only wondering about. They now have a mandatory English skills test for receipt of a permanent residence card.

Same with France. They ended up banning mosques and formally making a dress code for women over the burkha issue.

Go to Italy, Greece, Spain, Portugal, etc. and see where their let's be inclusive and citizen appeasement strategies have gotten them.

Why ANY American holds up the goal of being "just like them" is beyond me.

Even more beyond me is that if you do embrace diversity consider the irony that a world with a few governments which attempt to stay unique among other governments meets the same criteria as the cultural diversity arguments attempt to inflict on individual countries. Why shouldn't a country be allowed to set standards for citizenship and business?

So a government dictate how someone lives their life? Sounds like you'd like a lot of personal freedoms taken away. :xeye:

NO, EXACTLY THE OPPOSITE!

Read what I wrote about where being accommodating and using appeasement strategies got places like the UK, France, Spain, etc.

My statement "Why ANY American holds up the goal of being "just like them" is beyond me." is pretty clear.

NEXT TIME READ THE WHOLE POST.

If you take away the ability of a business to use an appeasement strategy, isn't that government intrusion?

Maybe we're just having a communication breakdown :(

Government
appeasing every single person that asks to be an exception to the law. As in:

I can kill my daughter because some guy whistled when her skirt blew in the wind but the government decides to APPEASE the pro-Sharia crowd by making it an exception.

OR

It's okay that I didn't wait to do all that damned paperwork because there are 11 million of us now and you don't dare throw us out so the government APPEASES an ethnic group with a blanket amnesty program.

Simply, apply the laws evenly across the population without "special considerations".

Spanish is much more common in America than any of those languages.

Not having an option for Spanish would cost companies a lot of money because it would restrict their ability to access a large market. They're broadening their horizons because if they don't, a global economy will leave them behind.
There are at least as many Koreans living in this area as there are Mexicans. Maybe more.

Why isn't Korean an option for language on the ATM? It's only English and Spanish.

"Communication Breakdown" is a cool song off of Led Zeppelin's first album, oddly titled, "Led Zeppelin." :D:

Let's face facts, yeah, business here is using an "appeasement strategy," as you refer to it - to attract CRIMINAL customers. Yes, I said that. People that break the law by entering the country illegally are CRIMINALS.

In the case of private business isn't that business owners right to conduct business in any language that person sees fit? Isn't it your right to vote that business out by not giving them any of your money. Or by letting them know exactly how you feel.

I don't think this is a racist observation just a slippery slope of our freedoms.

In some parts of the nation it might work to do what ever to shut a business don by not shopping there, but in a lot of others it won't work, and many have signs in the windows that state clearly that English is spoken there...

and it really is not a vote issue, but i think i know what you meant...

Businesses pander to people who speak Spanish because illegal aliens are not kicked out of the country. They pander to them to get their business and in so doing, diminish the country and Balkanize it to a degree that many of us are uncomfortable with. It's just another stupid thing to chip away at our country and our culture thanks to big business.

Some businesses do that for sure, but I don't and not ever likely to do so... they learn english or they do not buy there... simple no one should be required under any circumstances to provide multi lingual people ...

While i do also agree the illegals of all ages and what ever nation they come from need to leave and do so with utmost speed... After all they are the criminal there or here... not the american that owns the business...

I'll gladly agree with you that it's a great song :D:

EDIT: Also, there are still plenty of people that are here legally who are far more comfortable conversing in Spanish than English. Even if you take the illegals out, it's still a good business move to have a Spanish option. Also, I had to edit this again to correct English/Spanish because apparently yo no sé Inglés :D:

ATMs are manufactured all in one go to save on manufacturing costs. That's why you see braille on drive-through ATMs even though no blind person is going to be driving. It's much cheaper and more QA reliable to churn them all out identical to each other.

This is why, even though you may have more Koreans than Mexicans in your area, your ATMs have Spanish and not Korean. They are a national company, and nationally, there are more Spanish speakers than Korean speakers.

According to the 2000 US census, there were 28 million Spanish speakers and 890 thousand Korean speakers. In the years since, Spanish has grown at a much faster rate. Korean is nowhere near as widespread as Spanish.

The same applies for national 800 numbers. Nationally, no language comes close to English and Spanish (again, you may refer to census data for this), so those are the two languages offered. To not offer it on a national service is an insanely stupid business move.

Again I ask, why are you talking about government and laws? There is no federally official language of the United States. I'm going to be completely honest here and admit that I'm confused. I get your point, but I question its applicability.

This is not a fact but an opinion. If there is no legal definition of an Official USA language then there is no broken law. And I do not think of offering Spanish or what ever target language that business owner feels nets him the most business as Appeasement, it is his right.

Illegals getting into the Country is a completely separate subject. On that subject I agree that they are criminals, the shop keepers that higher them. And should be held to a much higher standard than the illegals themselves. Seeing as they are American's that are both breaking the law and acting in a treasonous manner.

But to be honest I also think that our immigration process needs an overhaul. It is entirely too difficult to legally become an American Citizen.

Two points on the above:

1. I didn't say that businesses were breaking the law with Spanish options.

2. It is the business owner's right to do that, as you say. However, the spread of illegal aliens has caused this. We're not talking about California and other states that had, historically, much higher percentages of people fluent in Spanish.

Agreed.

And should be held to a much higher standard than the illegals themselves.
Agreed again. They are wannabe slavemasters.

Seeing as they are American's that are both breaking the law and acting in a treasonous manner.
Correct. They are crony capitalists that give capitalism a bad name. Certain employers offered certain jobs with nasty working conditions and low pay and benefits and, as the neo-conservatives and some others are fond of saying, "the market decided." The employee pool market decided that they didn't want to work under those conditions for that amount of pay and benefits. So, instead of raising pay and benefits and improving working conditions, these employers chose to break the law. And they have many people in government supporting their criminality which makes it crony capitalism.

But to be honest I also think that our immigration process needs an overhaul. It is entirely too difficult to legally become an American Citizen.
It should be easier for people to come here that we need to come here or that share our culture and traditions, in that, they want to be free instead of come here and get a tax free job and get your wife and piglets on the county/city, state and federal teat and suck it until it collapses.

Because that's what is happening right now, the breast is imploding from the value being drained out of it and the weight of the multiplicity of piglets snorkeling on it constantly.

It is the corperations fault. They hire cheap mexican labor. Then they cater to the mexican population by printing everything in spanish. I have even went to home depot to buy something and hear spanish comercials. I think the corperations should be hugely fined for hiring illegals until they got rid of them.

My wife (Russian) has met other "immigrants" who have been here legally for ten years that still laugh at her for bothering to learn to read a book written in English. Go down into Brighton Beach area of NYC or some areas of Los Angeles/San Francisco and listen.

On another note, what does it say to those (like my wife) who went through the paperwork and wait for an immigration visa if 11 million who couldn't be bothered are given amnesty?

It should make her feel proud that she did it the right way and I for one salute her.

Mr. a bunch of numbers answered for me.

But I'm sure they probably tell her or insinuate that she is a "sucker."

It probably doesn't mean a thing to her, it's not like I was over your house last Thursday for Thanksgiving, but I'm proud of her and she is more of an American than some people I have in my family. :)
