OK..So I ordered one of the $30 food packages from angelfood ministries. It is supposed to feed a family of 4 for 1 week. They say there is about $50 of food in the $30 package. I think so. Most of it we will eat, except for the "BAR S" brand sausage. (had bad experiances with Bar-S plus some recalls a few years back here)

Here is a list of the food in the package:

1.5lb ribeye steaks - 4x6oz 28oz salisbury steak dinner entree
5 lb chicken leg qtrs 32oz breaded chicken filets
28oz chicken breast nuggets 16oz bar-s smoked sausage
16oz california blend frozen veg. 16oz frozen carrots
16oz chopped spinach 10ct. frozen waffles
16 oz bean soup mix 1lb rice
9oz instant potatoes 15oz sliced peaches
32 oz borden 2% shelf stable milk 1 dozen medium eggs
one desert item

and here are pics of the items: mainly name brand too...I was suprised!

The last thumbnail and the orange label above it are pics of a meat pacakge that was $20 and the box label. It contains:
1.5lb baseball cut sirloin filets 4x6oz
2lb boneless/skinless chicken breast
2lb st. louis style ribs
1.5lb hamburger patties 4x6oz

I really like the fact that the meat is vaccum sealed. :thumb:

I think I will do this again next month...thoughts??

I love Angel foods ministries, we have talked our whole family into getting the boxes. We have been thinking about getting the meat box but didn't know how it would look, thank you for posting pics. How is the quality of the meats that you received in that box? Is it the same as the rib-eyes? Have you every ordered one of the fruit and vege boxes, how are they? My children really love the dill flavor in the chicken tenders, they have a very unique flavor that is wonderful served with fetticini and alfredo sauce.

For those of yall that have been ordering for a while, do you order more than one main box and maybe hold it over to the next month to rotate your menu or do you serve the same menu every week for that month? I homeschool so the boxes are basiclly for childrens lunches right now, but I have thought about ordering one of the senior boxes for the childrens lunches and 2-3 boxes to rotate throughout our monthly menu.

:Sorry to have posted to a older topic but I have been offline for a few days and trying to catch up, PLEASEEEE forgive me!:

How is the quality of the meats that you received in that box? WE have had no issues, the quality is quite goodIs it the same as the rib-eyes? yes it is. Have you every ordered one of the fruit and vege boxes, how are they?Never ordered one, because it is actually cheaper most times to buy the components seperately at the local store My children really love the dill flavor in the chicken tenders, they have a very unique flavor that is wonderful served with fetticini and alfredo sauce. They remind me of the Chick-Fil-A sandwiches.

For those of yall that have been ordering for a while, do you order more than one main box and maybe hold it over to the next month to rotate your menu or do you serve the same menu every week for that month? We usually order 1 and rotate it into our normal food for the month, and add a meat box, depending on what is offered I homeschool so the boxes are basiclly for childrens lunches right now, but I have thought about ordering one of the senior boxes for the childrens lunches and 2-3 boxes to rotate throughout our monthly menu.

I think Angel food is a great program, but I believe I could buy much more food then that for $30 and it would be much healthier.

For example instead of a box of instant potatoes I could buy a 5lb bag of real potatoes for $2.49 - $2.69. That 5 lb bag of potatoes can go a long way. Instead of cookies and waffles I could buy fruit and veggies. Instead of the salsbury mystery meat and chicken butt nuggets I could buy real chicken drumsticks in the family packs for a couple of bucks. My other staples would be pasta, rice, and beans.

I agree, it does depend on the month. Some menus are better than others. that's why before we order, I have my grocery computer (GF) look over it with me! ;)

That doesn't look like a bad deal at all for what you get. I went to their site and looked at the other packages. The seafood package is quite a savings, at least compared to my local prices. I think I'm going to get involved in this too. I have a distribution point in an area that I frequent anyway. Thanks for bumping this.

As much as I love Angel Food Ministries for what they do and offer, I have found that I can buy more food, and feed my whole family of 5 for 10 days for $30. I think their program is great, though. I do agree with the person that said too much processed food, some of the boxes I've seen people get have way too many things in it we would never eat.
