I want a cheap extra gun to keep for a backup, the Nagant at 125.00 or the Tokarev at 225.00. What do you think?

The Yugo toks and romanian toks have safties as well as a half cock position. From what I understand the safties are add ons required for import to the USA. The saftey on the romanian is on the frame just rear of the trigger and above the magazine release.
The yugo has a thumb saftey similar to a 1911 on the frame near the hammer. Go to classic arms website and check out the pistols they have . Their is a hard chromed version available for $279 and the blued version is $199 . I paid an extra 10 bucks for a hand picked and recieved a blue M57 with holster and 2 mags and a cleaning rod in pretty much mint condition. The yugo M57 has a 9 round mag where all other toks have an 8 round mag.

Be prepared to remove some cosmoline they have been dipped in it and they are real sticky. Just get a pan and break the gun down and soak it in mineral spirits. use a plastic brush to help with removal.

In the M1895's defense: Cheap 762x25 surplus has all but dried up. Unless they bring more in, the ammo options are about the same as with the 1895.
However, with the 1895 you can shoot various .32 caliber catridges with no ill effects. Also, there is that .32 acp cylinder you can get for the 1895.

ETA: I almost forgot that they do/did make the 9mm barrel for the tok.

With that in mind I would say that cost would be the largest contributing factor when it comes to selection.

I keep an 1895 in the glove box as a back up emergency gun with the thought that if my car got broken into it would only be a $87 gun that got stolen. Plus the fact that it would not be appealing to the gang-banger type that would most likely be the one stealing it.

Wow, so narrow minded and naive. Crackheads will steal anything worth anything that isn't bolted down to something too heavy to move with a couple friends. And that is your "most likely" perpetrator. And I bet you think they'll be black or brown-skinned as well, huh? And if your pigment enhanced culprit is the one breaking into your car they'll still take it. It's still worth something even if they don't know how little.

As everyone else has said - Get the Tok, then get the 9mm conversion. Or don't. Either way they're great guns. I had a Yugo M57 and a Norinco 213. Loved them both and have standing offers to buy them back any time I Feel inclined.

The Nagant is the only revolver I know of that can be effectively suppressed because the cylinder forms a gas seal with the barrel. That interesting characteristic aside I don't see much use for it. It can fire other cartridges, so there is a little more utility to it. However all the ammo I have ever seen if existent was ridiculously expensive for what it offers in combat use.

As for the TT-33, the lack of a manual safety on most models or variants/copies is the only really issue I have. The TT-33 fires 7.62x25mm which can still be gotten and at very good prices in surplus Yugoslavian and Romanian manufactured ammo. The magazines are harder to get in my experience, but I think there have been reproduction mags made in the last decade.

Combat? Who said combat?

When was the last time you looked for 762x25? Surplus seems to be dried up for now.

Of the two, the Tok.
I've owned both, and while the 1895 is better than a rock, it is still underpowered by modern standards.

But, for around $200, I'd be looking at used S&W Model 10's...
That's just me though ;).
