Okay, lets roll back weapon technology in order:

ICBM
Bomber
Airplanes with machine guns
Machine guns
Rifles/pistols
Bow and Arrow
Spear
Knife
Stick
Rock
Hands

Notice that the higher level weapon allways allows to deliver its force at a greater distance. So if gunpowder is out, and at short range(too close for bow/arrow) then the spear would give the user the safest distance.

A pack of trained pit-bulls might trump using a spear though.

I would rather have hounds for that purpose. Pits are great, i love mine, but when it comes to taking down dangerous game, theres nothing like a pack of Rhodesian Ridgebacks or blue ticks to get it done.

Well I have never seen RR dogs taking down a 300lb+ hog, and Seen a few Blue Ticks working along side latch dogs such as pitbulls, but hands down dedication to the death game dogs in my opinion goes to pitbulls.

Ive seen them get cut limping around after we just stuck the pig, and you move or shake that hog to much and that pit would giddy over to that dead pig limping or not and latch on and shake it's neck. The only thing more game Ive seen than a pitbull is a good ole blood lined "Red Richardson Green Legged hatch" game fighting bird\fowl.
