Part of being a survivalist is being being prepared for anyhting. This includes stocking your pantry as well as your ammo cans. One of the reasons I am well armed is to deter individuals from trying to steal from me and to protect my family if the SHTF. I can't really think of a scenario where I would have to steal food.

 

I agree with this post as far as the food situation goes. If my generator went down and I needed parts to get it running...I'm gonna get them. If for some reason I had to bug out and leave my stockpile behind...I'm gonna replace it. NO MATTER WHAT IT TAKES I AM GOING TO SURVIVE!
The only people I will not "re-furbish" from are those with kids to take care of.

 

if you are not willing to steal under any circumstances then you are not a survivalist
a survivalist is one who will survive no food no surviving is gonna happen no ifs ands or buts.

yes i would steal for me and mine to survive. do i think i'll have to? no as i produce 75% of my food and the sh!t hasn't hit the fan enough that i can't go to the store to get the other 25%. but when it does the very much bigger garden and fish pond will be up and running oh and that othe 25% is mainly stuff i don't need in the first place. mustard,bay leaf and the like.

and just cause your a survivalist doesn't mean you have a set of morals. though i do they just may not be your set of morals.

 

I agree with this. If I had to I would steal. Will I steal the last can of beans from hungry a family? No. I have some morals. Will I kill an entire gorup of raiders and take their loot for myself...absolutely. If I should cross paths with any hostiles that lead to me killing them to defend myself, I will take whatever I want from their body.

I have morals that may not be the same as others. In dire circumstances one will act on instinct. Since I stockpile a lot of supplies I hope those instincts will never kick in and I have enough to make it.

The minute my kids told me they were hungry and upon opening the cupboard and found nothing there. I would however take from mega farms or those with huge amounts. I wouldnt take from somebody else who would end up in the same situation if I stole from them. I guess I would be a moral theif lol.

 

I got no issues with acquiring items and/or food through unconventional means if it's truly necessary. I'm not gonna go loot rat-mart or kroger on day1 of SHTF, though, no way no how!

 

My take on it is: If you prepare properly, you wont need to steal. For instance, If you have enough food to feed your family 3 months longer than the next guy chances are he will be dead and then if you go scavaging through his property its not really stealing becuase hes not there anymore.

And if you arent storing enough food to outlast your neighbors then youre probably not a survivalist OR you are surrounded by survivalist. (In that case you band together etc.)

I would only have moral issues with it if I endangered somebody's life, by taking his food. I would not take the last piece of bread from a starving man.

It would be another story if it was food in the hands of somebody who tries to make profit on other people being hungry (and that will happen). If somebody has the food, and would not use it for his own consumption, I wouldn't have the slightest moral problems taking it.

But only in a SHTF situation ofcourse, in normal life I never steal anything. I believe in capitalism, just not in an SHTF situation, then I prefer communism. :

Pretty much agree apart from if there was people in the area that were causing problems, e.g gangs then I would quite happily take their stuff.

 

My take is that stealing is wrong, unless there is a grave need and you do not create a grave need from the person that you steal from.

Thus, I would steal food, if there was no other way to feed my family. I would not loot.

Stealing...in a not so survival situation, this is referred to as breaking the law. In a survival situation where you are fending for your life through any means necessary and you have next to nil, there are no laws, thus stealing is eliminated BUT you take what others have left behind. Having said this though, if you had no firearms and you had no preps, then this method will surely get you killed by the ones who you are attempting to take from because you have set yourself up to fail. I don't know about you, but I wont take from others when I know full well they could be a benefit to me in other ways. I will take whatever is left behind...is that stealing? No. It's making good use to what is sitting around collecting dust.

who decides what is right? you? that makes you more lawless than a thieve. just playing devils advocate

 

People can speculate all they want but you just don't know untill your there. Then there is the "who" you will steal from aspect. Family, friends, neigbhors, strangers, govenrment, ect.

Absolutely. Part of survival is to survive, no matter what the circumstances. To stay alive, you need food. Though many people should prepare ahead of time, what happens when you run out of food? I'm not gonna let my family starve to death. I'll fight and even kill for my family to keep them alive.

 

Steal and steal in mass thats my plan. I got a group of about 30 like minded ppl we will take what we need in TSHTF.

 

So your preparing to fail basically, I really hope you come up against someone much better prepared and armed than you, if thats your plan. It's one thing to take a couple of things here and there if the need arises or you run out, but from the sounds of things your just going to be a bunch of armed thugs taking from those who also have need.

 

Do you honestly believe humans will stick to the laws when laws are no longer enforced by the law enforcement themselves? I have news for you, the world will be wrecked by havoc and LE Officers will be out protecting their own arses and families and not care about you. Because it comes down to "your on your own mate." I find it hilarious that people actually believe they can call 911 and get help when all heck is busting loose. The rules, the laws, will change dramatically and you will be fending for your own survival and if you allow laws that are implanted into memory to rule over you, you're basically sentencing yourself to death. All of the glorious laws that are out there to protect the people in a ruley society, wont protect you when everyone is against everyone else. Do I make the laws? I make my own laws and rules, because I do not adhere or accept the bull crap laws given on the fellow man to smother him to death. Society has made it that you can't even thumb your nose at someone without being locked up for it. Sorry, but my laws and rules are ones that follow only the commandments (and mind you, Judaism states "thou shalt not steal" is referred to kidnapping), and that I feel are unjustly wrong such as prostitution, porn, child labor, and abuse of all kinds.

 

in the ten comandments it says you shall not steal, i will be as well prepared as possible to prevent from having to steal cause its wrong, but if it means life or death then ill cross that bridge when i get there

From page 1, I share the sentiments and viewpoints of mgd_only and cadethepagan. my answer is yes, including the moral issue but a wise person should be well stocked enough not to have to address this little problem for quite some time

 

this is were the catch 22 is. For example,if its something that will save the life of a family member or a trusted,loyal freind, then I say hell yes I would.If its a plasma screen TV,a mercedes,or some old ladies blender absolutely not.but one thing you gotta take into consideration is what if TSHTF for longer than you had planned to survive.sooner or later one of us is gonna runout of food,gas for the generator and maybe even ammo.what then? Are you gonna just lay down and wait to die? or, are you gonna go out and get what you need? I would say most are gonna do what they got to do
