Unemployed but writing here and there. My job is housewife/caretaker for my husband's grandfather. But my husband is unemployed and has been seeking employment for a long time, unsuccessfully. Even the supermarket is looking for "very qualified individuals" for a check-out person. He has an AA, lots of experience in all sorts of handyman and labor positions as well as managerial, very strong, hardworking, responsible.. No prospects for months, almost a year.

 

Surely self employment is an option.

 

7 days a week here. My job never ends. In fact the worse things get, the more my work is needed. Kinda sucks. My kids probably can't remember what I look like!

There are jobs available out there. There's no doubt that. It is an employers market and they are taking full advantage. It has been my observation that most people are working at job's they are way over qualified for. I personally have been very lucky. But it's brutal out there. Many choose to collect because they feel taking that lower job hurts their resume and future chances of getting a job that is back to the level they should be employed at. And they are probably right... Although its a catch 22 because employers dislike seeing gaps.

As usual as an employee unless your working for the government you get really get screwed. But my observation has been in that way it's never been worse.

When I was 42 my employer forced me out due to my advanced age, they call it 'high year tenure'.

 

BWAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!! "Advanced age" at 42! I'm 68 and still on the job, no plans to retire.

 

I stay home with mine and cyber-hazard's 4 year old daughter so my as well say full time lol

 

Chasing tots is harder than most guys think. Unless the person enjoys cleaning spaghetti off walls, wiping asses, scraping melted crayon out of heater vents, and explaining the same thing 1,000 times. Respect too you Sir. :thumb:

Lost/gave up a job in February and started my own business. Still not getting as much work as I would like, but customer numbers are going up slowly. Not enough for full time employment, wife is making most of the money now as a nurse.

I figure I need to learn how to survive on very little now, so the transition will not be as painful in the future.

 

My real fear for the country holistically for the long-term is that good jobs are going to go away. Then, each and every one of us will lose our "good" jobs, take a job that pays less, and over time we see our quality/standard of living reduce.

It seems like that a lot of the manufacturing jobs in my area are used to develop and perfect a process and make it so that a dummy can do it. Then the company literally let's a dummy do it by sending that manufacturing line to Mexico or China. Therefore, hard working Americans bust their butt to perfect a process/part/service and then it leaves the country.

The global economy will only drag those with a high standard of living down. We have everything to lose in a global economy...and we are losing it. Don't think so? Hop in the bed of your truck and have your buddy stand on the ground and see who can pull whom, where? Your buddy will always drag your out of the truck before you'll ever pick him up.

 

Currently unemployed, but actively looking. NO unemployment benefits, as we had to move to a different state for my husband's new job (which pays $12,000 per year less than his old job did, but at least they are paying PART of our moving expenses.)

 

I selected part time/want full time but that's not exactly correct. The husband is actually full time but is 20 hours a week shorter than it was prior to cuts.

40% of the plant is still laid off.... so he's grateful to have his job at all. Doesn't make it any easier losing all that pay.

 

At least i have the capacity..............

Full time employed as an engineer in the manufacturing sector. Got my job when I graduated college May 2010. There's jobs out there, in certain areas.

 

Employed full time here, but I get to work from home. Wife is technically part-time, but is pulling closer to full-time hours.

Retired folks, you don't count towards unemployment. You have taken yourself out of the workforce. Just like children, you aren't counted.

 

I'm employeed full time and go to school.

 

I'd do that, but I have class monday through thursday 7am to 4pm... I could work weekends, but I need my drinking, offroad and shooting time.

 

Hubby works 40 plus give or take and I use to work about 8hours a month (made a good chunk of money an hour though) but recently decided to tell them to screw themselves....no unemployment for anyway soooooooooooooooooooooo....but were fine and doing well
