What about people in jail when SHTF ?

I find that comment insulting. It implies that if you have tattoos you are a criminal. I happen to own and operate a tattoo studio and you show your complete ignorance by such a biased and stupid comment. Many of my clients are nurses and doctors oilfield workers and truckdrivers, teachers and cops, single moms and business owners. Not to mention all the US ARMY and MARINES I tattoo. I happen to tattoo very few criminals. Just because you have tattoos does not make you a criminal any more than being on this site makes you an anti social sociopath planning to blow up the world trade center.
Oh lawl, I love the internet.

Guy makes a passing comment about tatooes and stereotypes in a prison thread, and there just happens to be a guy reading who owns a tatoo studio, who takes offense to the stereotyping.

Only on the internet.

Yes I take offense. Stereotyping goes everyway...for instance stereotyping says that survivalists are dope smoking backwards hillbilly redneck racist paranoid schizophrenics. And that isn't an uncommon thought.
I merely find humor in the coincidence that there's an expert on tatooes in the thread to immediately respond to the errant comment.

In this thread alone, we have a prison expert and a tatoo expert to handle all our 2012 criminal profiling needs.

As with all subjects when you consider a SHTF situation you have to interject that it depends on the situation since they are so radically different. correct me if I am wrong but it seems the most common idea at the moment is the idea of total economic collapse, and though that isn't every scenario and many people still think it cant happen, lets look at worst case.

lets say the Euro collapses and with it the American Dollar. I'm sure soon after that the Yen would take a hit as well, but if everything collapses here and if America breaks out into mass panic and looting then here is what happens. Johhny Law holds out for a bit but then realizes he isn't getting paid, can't pay his bills or pay for food and his family is in danger so he takes his badge and his service pistol and goes home. GI Joe hangs on for a little longer cause of oaths and all but he quickly sees that its all going to hell in a handbasket and he bugs out with all his TA-50 and goes home to protect his family. Weekend Warrior has two jobs and neither of them can pay him so he gets angry and goes AWOL from both jobs. The Guv'na tries to hold everything together but nearly his whole staff has quit so he's doing it all alone with a nerd who follows in his footsteps cause he aint got no where else to go. The Gov'na meets with all the state representatives and they activate the National Guard...of which most have already gone AWOL and meanwhile they bite their nails and try to figure out WTF is happening. They don't go anywhere because they have the illusion of control and can't let go of it, so they enact a bunch of laws no one can enforce because Johnny Law is at home with the Weekend Warrior. Meanwhile Prison guards aren't getting paid at all and along with the Corner store Clerk, the Feed Store clerk and all the WalMart staff they decide to go home and try to fend for their family themselves. They don't kill anyone even if they are criminals because that is murder and that puts them in the SAME CATAGORY as a cold blooded murderer. Most don't give it a second thought, they just go home, some look back with a pang of concience thinking that by leaving them there alone, they are condemning them to death in essence putting themselves in the same boat and making them murderers. But they reason that they didn't actually do anything and the convicts put themselves there so its okay...some idiot is sure to comment that they have tattoos and deserve to die...but somewhere in that mass of people will be a guard who decides it isn't right and he or more likely she...will open a door or two to give them a fighting chance. Meanwhile within a day or two gas is bought out, food is gone, and no one is running frieght any more because no one is getting paid. People begin looting and killing JUST LIKE CRIMINALS and preppers start shooting people who step on their lawn, or planting claymores around their house, ect. The world turns into mass anarchy, good people turn evil and grandmas wearing their librarian glasses and a paisley skirt and no bra stand in the street screaming..."I'll get you friggen buggers!" while she unloads an M60 Rambo style, single moms suddenly become rampant killing machines and every now and again you'll catch someone kicked back on a burned out car with a bowl of popcorn watching the show and wondering...now what was it about them...criminals?

Of all my jobs in the past few years about half the people I've worked with had been to jail for one reason or another. Of those about half were "normal" people, the other half should never have been left back out. At one job the manager was on parole for assault and the assistant manager did time for assault on a police officer. When I was growing up I was lead to believe that anyone who had been to jail/prison was "evil" and not to be trusted. A survivalist was a crazy loner who lived in the woods and was usually a member of the kkk. Funny how the things you learn in childhood are usually crap. BTW, the manager went back to jail for running a meth lab and the assistant manager is a hardworking family man.
I was taught that stuff as well too ... I just didn't learn anything. :D:

I am curious, why is it so taboo to for people to make concessions on their religious beliefs?

I make concessions on my beliefs all the time. Heck I was forced as a kid for close to a decade to says prayers when I never believed in God. I got smacked by my teacher if I didn't at least mutter the prayers througout the day. When I lived in Indonesia, same thing, to fit in I had to tolerate joining in little daily ceremonies and offerings.

Isn't that a religious concession?

Why can't these people remove their turbans (or any other uniform-violating article of clothing/jewelry) while on the job to fit the uniform?

Shouldn't a government institution representing the entire people, such as the police, be areligious so as not to offend anybody?

I believe we should all make compromises on our dress/behavior in public. I don't know why religious dress/behavior is any different.

Just my opinion.
