OK, maybe just a little hostility here to the folks that brought the working class the 8 hour work day and the week end. They did it through sacrifice of sweat, blood and in some cases their lives so you should be a little greatful I would think. The reason so many of us are working poor today is because the rich no longer pay their fair share of the tax, all those right wing tax cuts were not for the working man friend, research a little more and you will see that the lion's share went to the rich. That means today the working class carries more of the burden of running the country through our taxes, which is why we have so much less. It is all pretty basic really. If you own a multi-national or a big bank- forget what I have written because obviously this does not apply to you because you are the rich and part of the problem.

they say the Unions save jobs. The only jobs I know of are they save are the jobs of those to lazy to put in 8 hrs of work for 8 hrs of pay or work 5 days.
the unions had a purpose at one time but have outlived it. They are now using the dues to suppor their lavish lifestyle. Your big Union Officials have accress to free vacation condos, Golf club memberships. lavish trips that they clain are for union work. And they are trying to become political with sending your dues money to the Dem Campaigns. We need all Right to Work States. Let everyone make their own choice. Even when they go out to demonstrate they hire the demonstrators who do't even know what they're demonstrating for. or against. They are also just this side of breaking the law with their intimidations. And going to private homes of businesmen with signs etc should be outlawed. My husband agrees with me and he retired from a union shop.

Only government and government contractors can afford union labor.

A union wage and benefits are not sustainable in today's markets, unless you have your hand in the public treasury.

A big scam is government employees/teacher's unions. The biggest and most powerful unions in the world.

The damage their gun run programs inflict on the public when they work and the gun collected pensions we pay when they retire is devistating.

They suck the wealth from a community like a giant vacuum cleaner, like a social security recipient or a welfare recipient.. they are forcibly ever consuming more than they produce, impoverishing and enslaving the general population.

Their days are numbered, let free markets, work and family be our social security not government with their guns, unions, laws and penelties.

That is about as dumb a sentence as I have seen in a while. Social security is a payin get out program. To equate that with Welfare is enough to really raise my blood pressure. I paid into it since to age of 12 so I deserve a return on my money, Just like my IRA. The rest of your post was ok till you said that and exposed another side of you.

An interesting bit of history I learned while living in a South American country a few decades back. Their Peso in the 1930's was equivalent to the USD and they had a standard of living unequalled on that continent. They were known as the Switzerland of South America during that time because of their economy and independent political situation.

Then after WWII, the unions entered more strongly upon the scene and things started to spiral downward as they gained more support and political corruption held sway over an increasingly apathetic populace. By the 1970's they had become just another junta-ruled third world nation where inflation had drained the lifeblood out of their currency to the tune of 3200+ of their pesos was the equivalent of the USD.

These bits of info came from the people I lived around and talked with. That's how they saw their situation and many had lived during the good times to witness their decline and the causes of it.

Unions brought GM down. Obama then gave them a huge percentage of GM in return for their good works.

Public sector unions are insane. Does anybody really believe that their city is going to do 'things' to it's city workers ? Maybe deny them bathroom breaks or something. No doughnuts on Tuesday. Those kinds of unfair and unsafe workplace practices.

Recently, the Democrats pushed for a law that said a union rep could enter onto the private property of a business, uninvited. Then they could talk to as many of the workers as they wished. Then they could select the workers that would be involved in the vote to go union. Then conduct the vote, count the votes, and declare victory. That certainly sounds like the American way of doing things- doesn't it ?

We have seen unions demand and demand and demand incredible things. In the latest bankrupt city in California- Stockton- firefighters retire at age 50 and get 90% of their working wage which is avg $140,000 a year. Oh boy, that is a good job. Bet the mayor who negotiated that little deal was funded and supported by the firefighter's union. Wanna bet ?

I say let them union guys strike over their silly little demands. Throw the switch and shut it down. Burn it down like they did with Eastern Airlines. This is a great opportunity to get rid of them. When they strike, close the doors, wait, then re-open with non-union employees.

Look at the foreign car companies here in America. Them ain't union shops folks.

any time someone says "NOOO" to the unions, they are "union busting".....

still laugh about Ronnie Reagan being universally despised, by the unions, because of his stand against the air traffic controllers .... Ronnie was a union guy himself .... he just wasn't a marshmellow like Jimmy "Peanut" Carter ....went on to bust that old commie union

Yep! Those dear Air Traffic Controllers who went on strike even though their charter and federal law clearly stated that it was an ILLEGAL STRIKE. Surprise! They got fired. I wanted to see them arrested.

If your job is too hard, you don't get what you deserve or you don't get treated nice enough, QUIT. Unless you work for yourself, it's not your job. It belongs to someone else.

Not talented enough, smart enough or ambitious enough to work for yourself? Tough!

one of my friends is a union worker...he has been laid off for over a year...nobody wants to hire them because they cost too much for the little work you get from them....he says he is entitled to his sub pay.. that is money they give them when they are not working... plus regular unemployment, plus vacation pay, plus plus plus......meh! now he just babysits his grandaughter...he does not even go look for work...once a month he goes to the hall to resign a book or something...i see in the newspaper, electrician jobs all over the place.....but to him they just do not pay enough to come off unemployment... the last time he was unemployed he was on his last week of unemp pay when he magically found work..hmmmmmmmmmm....i am not a fan of unions at all....

Yeah the countries broke alright but we'll go ahead and blame unions. Forget the trillions upon trillions that go to the illegal wars and bankers and simply vanish into thin air along with entire bodies and their parts. Yup, it's the unions fault. Certainly they are corrupt but they are only emulating the govt who I would not suggest be a replacement whatsoever. If you run with the pack, pretty soon you'll be indistinguishable. Like I like to say, there is nothing that is too big too fail. Quite the opposite.

You ARE the union, or didn't you get the memo.
To say that unions were the ones busting heads is a lie. Sorry oil and coal companies if it hurt your feelings at the time-you deserved so much better. They actually formed so that they didn't get theirs busted.
As for unions causing jobs to be run overseas, another lie. That's the govt hard at work again representing the american people. Sure we could make our own pc's but the govt would not be able to stifle and inflate the technology so easily unless it were done by ******* in china. Neither a govt nor a union is inherently bad. It is only those at the top who make it so.

The truth anti-union haters don't seem to want talk about.

Unions cause JOB LOSS

Anyone working in an industry that has been unionized in your state or others can thank these wonderful unions for destroying your livelihood.

You been laid off – thank the union

You’re a hard worker, but were laid off instead of the lazy ass that’s been there longer – thank the union

You lose your pension when the company went out of business – thank the union

Your job been farmed out to private contractors – thank the union

Your job been sent overseas – thank the union

You tired of paying more for less – thank the union

Your city cutting back of services and raising your taxes – thank the union

Your state cutting education – thank the union

Your taxes are eating you alive – thank the union (and the politicians they support with your money)

Unions have outlasted their usefulness by about 90 years; they promote inefficiency, poor quality, protectionism, job loss, mediocrity and commie politicians. Things going poorly in your life, you can thank a large part of your plight to unionization!

Have you ever been in a Union Busting? CRAZY!!! Now I have no love or todays unions. But we had a group buy out a company I worked for years ago. We called a union and wanted to know what they could do for us. Our days were numbered any how so why not. We carded up and called. Then the company hired some hot shot from tenesse to bust it up. He was paid $4000.00 an hour to do it and he put on one heck of a show. In the end, he freaked out almost every on in that company and the union vote fell, hard. One week later nothing but a cleaning crew was left in the place.

The days of Con-Ed & CWA union members(Communications Workers of America) days are numbered.
The only people that don't seem to know that are the union members, who are just unwitting tools of the unions themselves.

The unions sole purpose in life is to get as much as they can for the union members, while the general public/customers (who are non-union members) are just getting by and have all had enough of government/public utilities/etc. picking their pockets.

The whole point of having a job is to provide value to the employer. In return the employee is compensated. Turning the relationship into an adversarial one sort of defeats the purpose. Unions spend half their time tearing down their employers, and then can't understand why nobody wants to play nice with them.

If I ever found myself on the wrong end of a union, I would fire every last one of those striking bastards and hire people who actually want to work. Anyone who turned against my company would arrested for trespassing the next time they tried to come on the property.

They can demonstrate and accost people all they want; it doesn't make them more desirable personnel. Being more desirable personnel is the only way they're ever going to get what they want.

I hope every last one of them gets a permanent unpaid leave of absence. Good riddance, because they are certainly bad rubbish.

I have a 51 year old home. Not a big fan of unions but my cabinets and garage door opener are union made. Thats right the garage door opener. That 30 to 40 year old piece of machinery lifts my all wood double garage door. The door easily weighs 600 pounds. When the stuff was made in the us it was good. My parents chinese door openers have been replaced already on their 10 year old home.

Not to point out the obvious, but the fact that products were made better 40 years ago and the correlation that somehow that's because of unions do not connect.

"Stuff" is made out of crap now, because that's what the consumer wants; cheap, cheaper, cheapest. Here's another example, my dad has a Chevy built in 1955, still runs like a champ; he replaces his Chevy truck every 10 years because they fall apart.

Further, all the really cheap crap is made overseas, because due to unionization, it could no longer be made to compete; if you've got a guy sweeping the floor making $75 dollars per hour, he can't be fired for doing a crappy job and will retire at 55 with 90% of his salary......you have a problem!
