July update:
As Ukraine joins the EU in an effort to ward off russia, the fighting continues. The Ukraine has pushed the russian soldiers aka pro-russian supporters aka the DFK aka terrorists out of several towns. The russian soldiers have had reinforcements as russian tanks and armored vehicles including a 1000 more russian soldiers slip into the Ukraine and have blown up bridges and barricaded themselves in a town for the last stand.

A lot is happening, but its not a big anti-russian rant in the main stream news.

NATO also sends troops to Ukraine.

This adds to the already existing German, Swiss and US military advisors placed in the Ukraine in march.

US deploys Anti Ballistic Shield in Europe as Russia moves its ballastic missiles to border.

US send Anti ballastic missile destroyer to Spain.

So a few thousand NATO and US soldiers are in the Ukraine already.
A few warships are positioned in strategic positions and the European missile defense is up and running. This was due to congress and NATO being concerned, but obama is out playing golf.
I think Putin will back down.

It's something. It took WAY too long though. As soon as Russia started massing it's troops, I would have had 30,000 NATO troops and hardware form a wall right in front of them. Then I would call Putin personally and tell him that if his men took one step over that border, that we would kill every single Russian soldier and burn every piece of Russian equipment on that line.

You meet an evil man's force with greater force and show no mercy. That is the only thing they understand. It's what NATO is there for.

I don't know history of Ukraine, but that is very possible.

We (Fin) Have been doing close co-operation with NATO many years and time at time, discussion pop up if we should be joining NATO. This discussion have been happening what I have been following, at least 10 years now.
And time at time when this discussion pop up, Russia arrange military training near of our boarders, or something similar. :D:  When we let NATO troops in our country, or join in certain NATO practices, Russia once again start to play angry children for us and send their airplanes to harass our air space and so on.

That is how Russia play this game with us little countries. And it seems to work pretty well for them.
Right now we are very likely joining NATO in very near future and experts here talk how if we join NATO, Russia could revenge it for us and probably harassing our air space isn't enough.

Russia like to keep us (small countries next to Russian borders) as Russian safe zone against west and they have been saying it straightforwardly. So they absolutely have plans for us (small countries.) So Russia is threat pretty much for everyone next to their borders.

the new president of Ukraine signed an economic deal/partnership with the EU which did not improve Putin's demeanor. bulgaria and some other former com block country also signed this agreement at the same meeting. I don't blame any of these countries for trying to break away from the kremlin because the only change from the former USSR communist dictatorship to the present day oligarchs is the color of their uniform/suit. to clarify another poster's statement about nazis being in power, he is poorly informed. the former interim president of Ukraine, Arseniy Yatsenyuk, is Jewish. the pro russian zealots took up positions in eastern cities to protect Lenin statues after the people in Kiev and other western cities destroyed statues of Lenin. these statues are symbolic icons of Russia's dominance over Ukraine and the Ukrainian people. F**K Putin and his oligarchs in the kremlin.

Just to clarify - there is no NATO troops in Ukraine, nor US troops. There is a small numbers of military observers, some of which have been captured and later released by east ukranian rebels.
US and NATO deployed troops to NATO members, around the Ukraine - Poland, Estonia, etc.

The war got to a really weird point, when one day Ukraine reports that their military bombed the sht out of "separatists", killing hundreds, and next day has articles like "somebody help our military", "terrorists" destroyed a large group of Ukrainian troops using "Grad" rocket launchers, the remains of troops are sitting in the corn field without helmets, bulletproof vests and ammo.

Is Ukraine Losing The War?

Coulda, woulda, shoulda .... this is what the Ukraine disaster will be remembered for ....not on what Putin did, or what the EU/U.S./NATO wanted .... but on how the Ukrainians themselves could not sit down at a table and be willing to discuss and compromise what needs to be done .... and to then ask the people themselves via through elections and referendums if this is the choice that they want.

Sighhh ....

Ukraine has already lost. Russia/Putin have also lost. And after all the fighting and suffering has been done the only thing that will be left will be on where to draw the new boundaries. And everyone will be asking the same question .... was it all worth it ....and the answer would be no.

last I heard the 173rd airborne were in Hungary . . . to think we can stop a full Russian assault?

I think the US has been lulled to sleep by small body counts, easy wins and great PR wars like Iraq and Afganistan . . .

Real world battle with Russia? . . . there won't be enough body bags to hold the dead and I doubt america could handle it

I don't pretend to know Putin's game plan, but his nature reveals a lot of macho . . . I doubt he will roll over for US on his borders.

the suppport of the sheeple

Having the MH 17 shot down, was an action that NATO used to get public support for The Ukraine and the option to demonize East Ukraine.

At first big news how evil the east russian speaking ukraines are to shot down a airliner, but later on it became unclear who actually was responsible

Do you know that The Ukraine and the Dutch,Belgium,USA and Australian Goverments have signed a document to keep the results of the investigation top secret. And that the black box recordings havent been made public and the ukraine radar data will also not been made public.

Also the USA and the EU have spent billions of dollars in the Ukraine It is not in the USA-s or EU-s agenda to have the ukraine being the guilty ones.

have many links from national dutch newspapers to support this document containing top secrets. The Dutch prime minister admitted this in parlement that the investigation will remain top secret

Just saying

I know this is from RT and I've not quite discerned its accuracy as of yet, however, if it's true, things are starting to perkalate a tad more than my comfort zone permits..

30,000 troops, 6 rapid units: NATO increases military power in Eastern Europe

Still trying to confirm the validity of this information through other sources.

ETA: These are added as I find them:

Not that this is in relation to the RT story, but interesting none the less.

I know this is from RT
Reading the article:
The NATO Response Force in Europe might increase to 30,000 troops from the current 13,000, said the alliance’s secretary general ahead of a defense ministers meeting in Brussels.
"Might" is a keyword there.

This is what they are talking about:

What Strategic Interests Does the US Have in Ukraine?

As I have asked before, what national interest of the US justifies the expenditure of $ and lives in Ukraine?

Not an isolationist, I just worry that the US will bankrupt itself getting involved in every little podunk conflict when there are far more serious, expensive and existential threats to be countered. Utterly baffling!

A confrontation between Russia and Europe isn't Podunk.

Siberia riches is the final goal. Fight for resources.

Get NATO in Ukraine and park rockets in there and Russia is defenceless.

Same scenario happened in Cuba when Russians placed their rockets there in 60ties and USA was ready to go to war over that.

Russia simply can not and will never allow this to happen.
