purely based on looks and since short barrel shotguns are a no-no in california I need one with an 18 1/2 inch barrel if it exists and is available
I know you're all set and ready to tell me what you think i should own and why, spare me...
I've been around guns my whole life and I have quite a few of my own.. both defensive guns and go out on the weekend and plink have fun with guns.

I must disappoint you. Production of TOZ-106 is stopped, and this tool is the rarity even in Russia. But second-hand examples are found on sale. And it is cheap, around $100 (although some cunning speculators ask much more). Indeed, it has several disadvantage:
- It is very (very very) noisy.
- Poor accuracy, but for close hunting enough.
- Maximum size of holder is 4 bullets (mount, shown in photo accommodates 2 bullets)
Yet it was very popular because of size. It is designed it as a self-defense weapon for workers.
Interest detail:
- Russian people are called it "death-head" (head as chairman). :D:
- When fired, the gunpowder in the barrel burns incompletely, and sometimes spectacular light wave comes from the barrel.

Maybe I leaned with disabilities. Accuracy low, but is standart for such quick barrel. Really TOZ-106 is the shortened shotgun MC 20-01

I never fired from MC 20-01, but my friends used to say that it has a very good indicator of accuracy (for shotgun). This is gun for commercial, not entertainment hunting. This is factor of low price, replacement mag instead under-barrel mag etc.
And I forgot to say that TOZ-106 is not removed from the fuse when folded, of course. In Russia banned guns shorter 80 cm. But it is easy to fix.

When you going to shorten itself, take an arms production specialist advice - how long to leave. He knocks on the trunk, hear and say optimal length. It is not required, but the scatter and accuracy will be better. Shortening is not a simple task, it is necessary to maintain a strict perpendicular. Even the smallest deviation from the perpendicular may cause systematic firing at a certain angle.

Good Luck.

Absolutely right. I have MC 20-01 and I love it.

20 - is a gauge, 70 - cartridge length in millimeters.
20 ga on the bird - very convenient size, shoots leed shot â„– 5-7 on 30-40 yards.
And the diameter of the shot circle is very small.
Also this shotgun is OK with bullets.
I use Lee Bullet Molds diameter .535 and .578 by Lee Presicion, inc
With great pleasure I would have bought the Mosin rifle, but there are nazi laws in my country, which allow me to bay rifle only after several years of owning a shotgun.
So for the same reason people buy a bolt-action TOZ-106 shot gun. It is called "the death of the Chair-man", because looks like shortened Mosin rifles, which fired at the Communists after a Civil War in Russia.
"Thanks" to the same Nazi laws, people of ex-USSR are forbidden to have pistols and revolvers. So they bay the most similar to pistol shot gun - TOZ-106. If they had God given rights to be free men, they wouldn't buy this ugly cut shotgun. They would bay pistols and revolvers. However, an oligarchic and corrupted goverments of ex-Soviet Republics are afraid of own people and their rights to self-defense.
