Has anyone tried the quietus med advertised? At this point I would go to a witch doctor if I thought it would help!!!!

I feel your pain as I have it also. There is no cure because they don't even know what causes it specifically.

I'd like to tell you it will get better but it won't. Though they do say it can quit. I'm sure waiting for it to quit.

Bad part of it is there is no way to even measure the intensity and for the most part the doctors I've seen think your nuts. :(

Good luck it sucks to be us.

Have had it since Vietnam, then had Rocky Mountain Fever when I got back while doing training in the woods for 3 weeks at Ft Bragg. Made it worse. Live with it every day of my life in both ears.

I had an M249 Expend its Nutritious Lead Goodness not more than 2ft. from my Right Ear during an Ambush once. Now every now and then my Right Ear just goes Deaf for a while, sometimes for a whole Day. I don't get the typical Tinnitus "Ringing" though, and so it does'nt really bother me much. I hope it does'nt get any worse, but after doing my Research, it seems like what I suffer from with the Temporary Deafness is more of a Nerve/Neurological dissorder caused by the incident, so I don't even bring it up. I can live with it I guess.
Keep on Truckin'.

Good question. My hubby has been struggling with that one for a while (though sometimes I can't help but wonder if its just an excuse not to "hear" me

I've heard of people using Helichrysum oil, but we haven't tried that one yet. His Dr. said he's pretty much outta luck - conventional medicine can't do a thing for him. I'd like to see what others experiences have been with different methods.

Try whistling for about 30 secs at the same tone that you hear the noise.

I was trying to explain to my female mate at the time what I was hearing....and after whistling at that tone, the ringing ended almost immediately. The reasoning....and this is just from me, not a doc or anything....you have specific cillia/tiny hairs in your inner ear that sense and pass on signals of specific frequencies based on the frequencies they're tuned to. Only the cillia tuned for that specific frequency can vibrate and sense those specific frequencies of sound. I figured the ringing is from specific cillia being irritated and them sending the signal to the brain even when there was no noise to send....so whistling at that specific tone gave them some quick use and they calmed down. I've passed that on to more guys at the VA then I can remember and it seems to work for a large majority. Some more than others. Nothing to lose by trying.

God bless.

I not sure that people can guess the right tone or even whistle at it. However your method my be providing relief because of the process of whistling creates a pressure situation in the nasal cavities right next to the ears. Sort like plugging your nose and mouth while forcing to breath out can pop your ears when changing attitude.

Might be a experiment for someone with really bad tinnitus to try the ear clearing procedure.

Welp, it's a sure guess that you've never had tinnitus. lol

Tinnitus is exactly like SSGN said above. To me, it's exactly like sitting beside someone who's whistling one specific unwavering tone that never needs to take a breath. It persists at that specific tone until it goes away. It's the long "beeeeeeeeeeeep" tone when the tv station goes off the air late at night. Do they still do that? There is no "guess" the tone. You're hearing it right there on and on. You don't guess anything. You're hearing it plain as day. As to whistling at that tone, if you can hear it, you can whistle it easily.

As I said, try it. You're not out any gold if it doesn't work.

And blowing to clear your ears has no effect. Everyone's tried that one.

Peace.

You would be wrong.
Ahhhhh. Sorry. That post was made to the 99% of folks who have common tinnitus in the form of a ringing in the ears. The form you *don't* have. The ear test tone, the constant hum, the high pitched whine, the whistle etc etc etc. That's why I suggested whistling at the same tone. I didn't know tinnitus existed in the form of a snapping and crackling that you have so you have my apologies. I am unable to help you. The 99% of common "ringing in the ears" tinnitus, however, you don't have to guess at the tone. It's constantly there and you hear it. There is no guessing.

So you can't whistle more than one note? Dude, you must be a *really boring* whistler! lol I've met a person here or there through the years that couldn't whistle at all.....but I've never met one that could only whistle ONE note. That just strikes me as weird. Did you never whistle along with the Andy Griffith theme? Dang!

God bless.

Whistling has never been one of my talents though I can make noise. Being able to whistle along with the Andy Griffith theme ? No. Sorry to admit to being boring also. We all have handicaps.

I've moved this thread to the Health section where, hopefully, some of our members in the medical field will offer their advice.
