After the Ak47 thread was a pretty great success with people sharing their images of their beloved AK's, I figured I would do a follow up thread where people can post images of their stock and/or modified Mosin Nagants. This will give others the inspiration to buy one, modify one or just learn some valuable knowledge and resources on them like where to buy parts and weapon specifications/modifications.

I should be receiving mine hopefully before the end of the week if not next week.

Yes, well I ordered it from Buds Gun Shop on Friday, and I am at the mercy of their processing, shipping and then travel time. I assume they take their time with all that. I did however call them up to ensure they had them in stock cause I didnt want to order something that wasnt in stock.

I was hoping I would have it by the end of this week, but with my luck they wont ship until the end of the week. So I am assuming hopefully by the end of the enxt week the latest.

Here she is - the latest incarnation. A tip of the hat to tobkis for the idea of the raised cheekpiece. 1939 Tula. Rubber buttpad, trigger has been tweaked, stock refinished with linseed oil, NC Star LER scope with illuminated reticle (actually it's just the center dot that's illuminated), barrel shortened to 22". Always goes bang when I pull the trigger.

Outstanding job on her, does the cheek raiser help? It sure did with me.

Loved refinishing my Mosin. First gun I've ever refinished and I have a feeling I'll be doing many more with the way it turned out! I used a combination of Minwax stains because I couldn't find a color I really liked... mixed and matched on a 1/2 sheet of wood until I got just the right combo. I've got it written down somewhere if anyone is interested I can find it and post it later.

Before/in process of finishing:

Finally, here is a closeup of the finish. I love the satin look. Pictures don't do it complete justice. The grain shows through very well and all the cartouches (not seen here) were left in tact because I thought they looked neat and had some history behind them.

Are those original Russian bandoleers designed for the 54R?
DO WANT!
Oh, and one of those overcoats that also apparently store 54R ammo!
Heck, I'll even take one of those hats... gets cold here, just like in Russia.

...Wait... I'm getting gear-jealous ... over a picture probably at least 50 years old...

I don't care.
It's so hard to find a modern heavy coat with built-in pockets for 7.62x54r!
...And the mosin lends itself so well to having loose ammo quickly at hand... Put around 50 rounds in a row through mine last weekend; only stopped because the finish on the wood started to boil out from the heat. ^.^

Posted it before, but she is a sexy beast. Mosin 91/59 Carbine. Made in 1943 like new when I got her and deadly accurate.

I have to work to get her away from my wife now, she loves this rifle. How can you blame her.

If I recall there were a million made at Izhvesk in 1939 -same year the Soviets invaded Poland and Finland. An Izhvesk round receiver 1939 is listed as among the least rare MNs. http://7.62x54r.net/MosinID/MosinRarity.htm

A PE or PU mount allow the use of the iron sights. I mounted the PE. It actually has a space cut in it for using the irons by looking through the mount. The PU of course mounts to the side and doesn't obstruct the irons. Kalinka and IO also make side mounts which take POSP and PSO series optics. All these have to be drilled and tapped.

My 1945 M44,refinished the stock, bedded the action, polished the bolt, free floated the barrel channel. Added the S & K rear sight locking rings scope mount and the NC Star 3 x 7 x 32 long eye relief scope. I have right at $200 in the rifle, scope mount and scope and the materials to refinish the stock.

Shoots pretty good as well,5 shot group at 50 yds. after the modifications. Can't wait to stretch it out.

Another One

Here's another one of mine. A 1952 Pole. Not bad shape. Got it from Century a few years back as part of a 3-fer $180. I think the other two were a Romanian and a Russian.

My Mosins

First is a 1944 Sako M39. Built on a '16 Izzy reciever. Great shooting, finnish rifle.
Second is a 1942 Izzy 91/30. Not as nice as the M39 but I would hesitate to use it as a SHTF rifle.
