Teen detained by TSA for design on her purse.

If they want to fondle your bewbs or juggle your nuts, they just make stuff up. There is no rhyme or reason. This is even worse than the child who was suspended because his action figure had a small-scale "gun". Or, equally ridiculous, 20 years ago, when I was in middle school, a child was forced to turn her shirt inside-out because it bore an ammunition manufacturer's logo on the front.

..yet then there's stories like this one.
What does that have to do with a painfully obvious decoration on a purse that any moron could tell was not a firearm and they stated it was a "replica" when it is clearly not.

Anyway, whatever. Airports are a place I avoid like the nuthouse they are. I don't expect to find logic, reason or plain old common sense in courthouses, airports and several other places and I stay the hell away from them as much as possible. To me, dealing with someone in the TSA makes about as much sense as sitting down to have a cup of coffee with someone committed against their will to a mental institution.

I fly once or twice a month (and boy are my arms tired) …….but seriously folks,

if you are a frequent flier , which this girl isn’t, then you know the rules and you know these guys are just looking for a way to justify their existence.

So it’s best to not take anything they could gig you for.

It’s not like its rocket surgery; don’t do anything to draw attention to yourself.

It's not just the TSA. I had to go to our local courthouse to take care of a traffic ticket, and my baby nail clippers were confiscated (well, i was told I could toss them or put them back in my car....no way am I waiting in line again) Apparently baby sized safety-nail clippers are a weapon.

and I was given attitude when I asked where I could put them "you can't give them to ME and I CANT give them back" duh. where is the trash can? Can I have my diaper bag to remove the offensive item?

Apparently they go through the trash and get them back out because the TSA and several states, counties and cities routinely sell them all in bulk to other companies who then sell them by lot on E-bay.

Anyone that doubts that can search for the auctions. I suspect that is one of the main reasons they confiscate things like this. Hassle the Citizenry and make a little money on the side to boot.

I remember right after 9/11 when they were showing pics of confiscated items. They pointed out an empty box of shotgun shells. They even made a point to ask why someone would try and take something like that on an airplane. It was an empty cardboard box, you couldn't hurt anyone with it in any way shape or form, but they were mortified someone dared to try and travel with it.

A couple of years ago when they were changing the Firearms on a plane rules about every week I declared it for stowed baggage. The airline rep gave me a form that I did not recognize. By the time I got to the end of trying to figure out what parts to fill out I asked her if it was the right form.

She: "You want to carry your weapon in your carry on don't you?"

Me: "No."

She: "Oh, so you are not a law enforcement officer?"

Me: "No."

She: Oh... (long pause) then use this form instead."

Then I filled out the form I was familiar with and placed the firearm in my stowed baggage. Then all was well.

Imagine the crapstorm that would have ensued had I continued to play the carry-on game.

I flew recently. With an interest in primitive fire technique I collected and I carried on a fanny pack full off flint/chert. Some of it had been turned into large flakes. All of it had razor sharp edges. Enough primitive knives to outfit 20 hijackers. Just the weight of some of the rocks alone made deadly weapons. TSA bomb checked my carry on bags and then put me through three airports with them.

TSA is just there to teach humans to accept tyranny.

I can only imagine what might happen if you had guns, ammo, grenades and the like tattooed on your body and visible. That would make you a replica arms dealer/terrorist ?

I had a similar issue with a belt buckle that has a pistol design on it (engraved). Told them the buckle was more dangerous swinging on the end of my belt than the gun was. He didn't appreciate the comment but I wasn't subjected to any other harassment.

You know what's amazing? I have read people over and over against criticizing security guards as "rent-a-cops" and they call them everything in the book. Most of the same people have a distaste for federal bureaucrats as well and they go to great lengths to say how dishonest, worthless and stupid they are. Now, in most cases, they're right. :D:

But it's funny that some of the most prolific haters of federal bureaucracies and security guards will damned near lick the shoes of a TSA employee. "TSA" was once an acronym joke for, "Thousands Standing Around." This has now morphed into, "Touching Some Ass."

Basically, the problem with liberals and conservatives is, they don't mind licking some boots, it all depends on who is standing in them at any given moment. This is a big reason why I started becoming more and more libertarian over the years...and although I don't agree with some things hardcore libertarians believe, like disbanding the FAA, I agree with them more and more every day.
