survival tattoo?

I'm looking for ideas for a new tattoo. I want a symbol or design that can be found useful in the wilderness. Obviously a compass won't be of any use, as it won't move, but something of equal use. Perhaps a design that can be used somehow as a compass? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Images with explanation would be fantastic. Thanks

Get a tattoo that says "I spent $400 dollars on this crummy tattoo instead of something useful"

or maybe "john wuz here"

Really, what can you possibly get tattooed on yourself that is so important you cant commit to memory?

Dont get me wrong, I like tattoo's, Have a few myself but i dont see any practical survival use of a tattoo.

The only tattoo I can think of is a dog tag tat, and unless your worried about your body being identified after getting hit with an IED. Not much of a point

Maybe a bulls eye target on your back to help end your hunger and discomfort when SHTF and you realize you should have spent your $$$ on prepps instead of some lame i'm a bad azz tramp stamp tattoo.

Really man go join a camping group that also teaches outdoor survival skills, find out what kind of equipment you need you, learn to use it and you will be $$ ahead and maybe make a few friends. ;)

Perhaps you will acquire honest scars, and burn marks from fire making and bush craft that will have more meaning and memories than a faded tramp stamp.:thumb:

I have a tattoo from my military days but I forget it's there as I can't see it most of the time...but, the only useful tat I've ever seen is a SSN inked on a Green Beret's inner thigh. That way, if the body is burned, the thigh is usually the last to burn and they can still ID the body.

As has been said, tattoos are expensive and largely useless for survival purposes. It is a fun mental exercise though, trying to find a use for something like that.

Blood type and donor status. A point of contact that won't ever change for next of kin notification. Related specifically to wilderness use though......If I HAD to come up with something, maybe a coded version of GPS coordinates for a cache. Jumble the digits with an easy to remember formula and alter the format so it looks like a date or something innocuous so only you know the real coordinates, or that it even IS coordinates.

What about piercings? Anyone got uses for those? :p
