Yes they are ! I was trying to talk myself out of getting one, because I didn't want to look like a mall ninja. lol I've always carried a 50 foot hank in my pack, or pocket, but I found a website on the internet that had a lot of cool brcelets and stuff, so I got one from them, I liked mine so much that I even got the watch band, having a total of 33 foot of 550 Paracord on my wrist just makes me feel better, when I'm in the woods camping, hiking or whatever. I used my bracelet once when I was hunting to make a drag litter to get my deer out of the woods, sent it back to the company that made it and they replaced it, for free.
you can use it to help make shelters, snares, hammocks, rafts, use as fishing line, fire tender, and etc. etc. etc.
If you think of all the uses for cord they are nice to have, a very nice piece of equipment to have with you all the time, just be careful who you get one from they are alot of fly by nights out there selling these things find you a place like the one I got mine from, they seem to know about these things, I'm even going to order the rifle sling.

My friend and I make them for ourselves and any other people who are interested in them. My friends think that they are purely for looks, I don't tell them that the paracord can be used a situation ever calls for some cordage. I imagine they would think me crazy if I started listing out a million possible uses for 20-30' of paracord. Most people don't even think about or realize that they can be incredibly handy and could possibly save you or someone else's life in a possibly dangerous situation. But I would suggest making a few yourself, it's pretty fun and there are a ton of cool weaves and things u can put them on. Rifle sling is my next project.

Me and my wife both made permanent ones ( don't come off). She had a nasty bug bite under hers and cut it off. I cut mine off after swimming at the beach and having the sand flies swarming it. I still carry some everyday in my computer backpack and, have used it a couple of times. I keep plenty of it in my BOB and survival gear.

Go buy your own spool or go in on one with someone. Get the ones with the inner strands. Then look of the different ways to braid and have at it. Braid some lengths and put them on all sorts of things like off your pack, sheath, wrist, etc.

If you want to save space and carry more look up Amsteel. More expensive but you get more line for the space and weight with incredible strength.

I don't care for wearing anything on my wrist (I barely tolerate my watch because I have to), so I made one into a keychain using about 10 feet of paracord. I've got a carabiner on it so it clips to my belt for easy access, and the paracord allows me to put the keys in my pocket so I'm not jingling with every step.
