sub gun?

Don't know what you all call them (SMG, chopp-uh, whatever), but here they are called sub gun's here (semi auto thompson, semi PPSH, you know). since we have enough rifle's and hand guns, i thought it would be nice to have a "sub gun" for intermediate range. the AR's are just to.... i dont know, i just feel like a sub gun would be a good investment. any suggestions on guns?

i was looking at: http://www.atlanticfirearms.com/storeproduct788.aspx
the 71 round drums are only $40 and it shoots 9mm.

also: http://www.atlanticfirearms.com/storeproduct546.aspx
VERY CHEAP AMMO, 1224 rounds for $120, non corrosive.

finally: http://www.atlanticfirearms.com/storeproduct786.aspx
again, 9mm, kind of prices mags.

i have $900 so im close to the PPSH, but does anyone have any other suggestions? please, no tec-9's or anything like that. im talking about serious military weapons that have no association with gangs and or gang related activities.

I see no useful point in any of those. Those are all "assault" rifles that fire a pistol cartridge. Those defeat the purpose of an SMG(which those aren't by the way) by being to large. There is no point in getting a rifle that fires a 9mm cartridge. Now if you just want them to have them then by all means, but I don't see them as a good investment.

An SMG is a submachine gun, meaning that it is select fire, fires a pistol caliber cartridge and smaller than a battle rifle.

An MP5, UZI or Mac 10 is a SMG.

hmmm? not like challenging you or anything but can you put a link for that statement? from the video's i have seen on youtube, they are VERY solid/accurate/cheap to fire.

and its just more of a "thing". we all know every once in a while you just want something ;) and i was going to buy the 10.5 inch barrell one anyways.

A modern 9mm or .40 carbine is probably cheaper and easier to get parts for. I have a problem with any support weapon designed as a machinegun that is semi automatic. An RPK for instance is basically a larger, heavier AK. so if it can't achieve its purpose- whats the point?

well... im not sure. im just trying to fill the gap between pistol and rifle here. 10.5 inch barrell's for the PPSH can be bought for $109 so i was just going to get one of those. and the 7.62x25 is a very cheap round (and i saw something saying it is comparable to the 5.7mm at closer ranges?). and wikipedia said the range is 273 meters? not to bad

I have had a few MP-5's and Uzis in my armory that I kept for the SEAL teams/NCIS we supported, and occasionally got to shoot them. They are really pretty specialized weapons and dont get used too much and can burn up a horrendous amount of ammo in a hurry. The M4's have a lot more power and are just about as compact as the MP-5's. I have had a chance to pick up Semi Auto versions but never really found a real need for them. If I needed a silenced round I have a AR-15 upper in .300 Whisper that works way better although penetration is pretty serious at close ranges. The way I see it its neither beast nor foul.

I've been Seeing P90's going for 1200-1600 range

FN PS90 (Semi-auto P90, 5.7 round has flatter trajectory thean 9mm)

HK USC (Semi-auto UMP, .45 ACP)

Thompson .45 ACP

But without Selective or Full auto what your basically asking for is a Carbine in a handgun caliber so your might want to look at the

Beretta CX4 Storm in 9mm or .40 for around 600-800

Or the Highpoint in 9mm or .40 for around 200, and for another 150 you can get the stock so it looks just like the CX4 for alot cheaper

with aftermarket stock

i was looking for military style just so it cant be demonized and called a "thug" gun. and i would never be allowed to get a hi point lol.

my bad, i read and they do sell the kits with the 10.3 inch barrells, but apparently you arent supposed to put a receiver on them lol. thats kinda dumb, "here, take this inomplete SBR.... but dont complete it!!!"

The highpoint is cheap and butt ugly bone stock, but its iron sights are some the the best around and its dead on the money. I fired thousands of rounds through mine before my place got robbed. If I was you, I'd save your money, and pickup a highpoint for what your looking for, then buy the stock, spare mags, and have money left over for alot of ammo.

ALL military style guns are demonized

OK.
You need a title 2(class III like Doberman says) tax stamp for he SBR. To get that you need to be:
Legal to own a gun.
In a state that allows class III(title 2) arms.
Florida gun works may say they have the kits and likely don't from past experience with them.
Not all PPSh semis are bad. Uli sold a bunch at Inter Ord that were crap back in the day but then again Uli is Uli.
I may be mistaken but I think Uli is being Uli in jail but that might be wrong.
It seems there was much swirl over the IO PPSh and took forever to get straightened out.

There are several people putting them together like Allied Armament in Oregon that people were more or less happy with.... once they actually got them that is. Allied seems to be errrrr....... schedule challenged.

These pistol caliber rifles are sort of fun but for me that's about it.
If they were original length yeah, but for that long a snout I'd just as soon be carrying a real rifle caliber deal.

Kel-tec's Sub 2000 carbine shoots 9mm and .40 cal. They use a glock mag, so you can get a 9mm and get the 30 round mags for it. In today's market on handgun ammo it has gotten expensive or unobtainable. You won't get much enjoyment from having something that you can only find limited ammo for, including the Russian round. If your wanting a weapon for an investment it's best to get something with historic value like an M1A or an old Colt revolver. The weapons you mentioned in your post you won't get back what you have in them if you were to sell them.

I bought a Coharie CA94 (MP5 Clone in semi) and while it took some work to make it run, the gun is now 100% and my GO-2-GUN for urban SHTF.

It is the funniest gun I have every shot and does QCB like no other.
Ammo is cheap (I reload) and the same as my G17 handgun caliber.

You can literally put the do on an 8" plate and ding it for all 30 rounds as fast as you can pull the trigger out to 25 yards.

Gonna cost ya as much as a top shelf AR15 though.

My shooting buddy runs his 10.5 carbine against my MP5 clone and followup shots are much slower due to recoil of 5.56 verses the 9mm.

They lost their popularity with entry teams because of overpenetration but the 9mm subgun is not out dated by any means.

Unless you expect body armor (which is next to nill for avg looter) you are not gong to need anything bigger and doubles on the eye box are much faster with the dotted pistol cal subgun. Not saying the SBR 5.56 is nor a sweet setup but don't rule out the subgun based on what the cops are using.

sub2000???? whats that? calibre?

the main + for the PPSH is the super cheap (and reliable) ammo and mags. doesnt the 7.62x25 have more energy than a 9mm, .40, and some where around, if not more, than the .45?

it comes out fo the 10.3 inch barrel at 1550 FPS? so im guessing it would come out the 16 inch barrel even faster?

keltec sub2000

its a very light, compact pistol caliber carbine that folds in half and can be stored easily and quickly deployed. It comes in 9mm and 40s&w. Some take glock pistol mags, some take s&w mags, some take beretta mags depending on the model. You can find them from 300-400 dollars.

google it and check out youtube videos to see how "handy" it can be.
