Street Gangs in Sydney Australia. Threat?

I was thinking, especially after a few incidences happened to me a while ago (for those who have followed my other post, you will understand), do you think that youth/street gangs would pose much of a threat to our survival post SHTF? Personally I don't think much more of youth street gangs around these parts than a bunch of ethnics being loud and feeding off each others arrogance and stupidity. Making attempts to intimidate people, fighting, steeling etc.
Anyway, what I was thinking about was post SHTF, these guys are nothing more than people that hang out in large groups and try to intimidate other people or steel their things.

Do you think a lot of these people are more likely to just not survive at all because of their materialistic world and being completely unprepared.

Or do you think they would do well, becoming organised within their current gang? They would obviously have a lot of weapons which they could use to take things from others and are very used to violence and steeling / looting etc. Should we be thinking a little about preparing for the threat that may be posed to us and our loved ones by youth/street gangs?

Here is a list a pulled from a website somewhere. It is fairly accurate.

Heres my story-

I was on a train leaving work from the Sydney showgrounds over the Easter Show just as the train left the station --
I was in the carriage nearest the drivers by the way.....

A group of about 30 late teens men and women came in led by this one big MOFO, they all looked like immigrants middle eastern looking (not being racist but they were) they then proceeded to destroy the interior of the carriage with their hands and attempted to break into the drivers cabin.
When this failed the big punk started punching out the ceiling lights with bare hands!! he then walked past me and glanced at me and to be honest I thought if he punches me I'm out but him and his gang walked past and continued to the back of the train doing the same thing.
Honestly I have never felt so helpless, I walked further down and there was a group of tourists and locals cowering in the corner with little kids crying it was disgusting!!!!!
The train stopped out side the station waiting for the police to arrive, so im expecting riot police and dogs etc etc at least 20 cops but no......there were 4 cops lol, I found out later the riot cops got sent to the wrong station.
Anyway needless to say all the gang just walked out of the station and that was that!
This stuck in my head for years.
Australia has a HUGE gang problem from Triads to street gangs, youre gonna need your guns if the SHTF.

I dont live in a major city but we have plenty of "gang" problems here, MOSTLY petty theft, arson, (unarmed) assault and graffiti along with the odd stabbing, occasional murder.

(i'm in the volunteer fire brigade so i get called out to all the fire bombings, car torching and other arson, 95% which never make even the local news)

All gang members are known to the police its just that the police lack the ability/evidence/court system to lock them up and keep them locked up.

That all said, gangs are still the minority, and I think post SHTF when the general public are no longer in fear of being prosecuted for adequately defending themselves they may just find themselves wiped out fairly quickly (I hope anyway)

Yeah they'd be a threat to individuals while in groups, but most of them are just ****-ant naughty teenagers. If they suddenly had no Facebook or trains to catch they would run home to mum and dad. The organised crime gangs like the bikie gangs and some of the larger and older immigrant groups would be more of a threat to society as a whole.

The people running these groups have guns, a chain of command and a ruthless mindset. If there was a collapse of the rule of law I can imagine these folk having the ability and desire to fill the power vacuum.

Cayne, do you plan on moving to Mount Druitt or Granville when and if things go pear shaped?

No?

Then what the hell are you concerned about?

let the drongos in the cities go at each other like rats in a cage. I think they'll all get what they deserve.

I think if you want to call yourselves survivalists, stop talking about what the 'sheeple' are doing or not doing, and concentrate on your own preps and real world networks.

However, I suppose the road to survivalism, always starts out, with the beginner feeling a little 'cocky' cause he's got shiney knives and 30kg of rice stashed away and a 'gung-ho' attitude to match :).

Cheers for the reply mate. Its a valid point. I would be anywhere but those areas, and you are right, the deadbeats will take care of themselves.

However, its dumb to rule them out as a threat, assume you wont end up near them or have to deal with them, be it this afternoon or post shtf.

As for the personal attacks that came accross sounding pretty "cocky" to me, are you here to make friends or enemies? Because by the looks of most of your posts you are just posting obvious answers or directing people to do their oen research. By the sounds of your first post it sounds like you know your **** and want friends. Well, I would not go making assumptions or judgments on people you dont know, you might just scare off the sort of people you came looking for in the first place ;-)

First off apologies if you thought it was a 'personal attack'. That wasn't my intention, so sorry about that.
Bascially, all I'm saying is ones energy and time can be spent elsewhere ie: preps and networking, rather than coming up with imaginary 'scenarios' on the internet. A percieved threat ican be VERY different to an actual threat, and as survivalists it's important not to fall into the 'group-think' trap of beleiveing the whole 'when tshf' scenarios that have become quite common on international survivalist forums.
The reason I have linked to our Aussie forum, is we keep things reality based, and it's a real life network, where friends and contacts help each other in all aspects of survivalism OFF the internet.
Cayne, I can come here and lead a horse to water, but I can't make that horse drink.
regards
E

... I believe that one day these 'gang-stars' will accidently / inadvertently kill some innocent with one of these cowardly 'drive bys' that it will be on.

As far as random violence on public transport goes don't paint a target on yourselves. Be smart. Be aware of your environment. Avoid sitting on the train head in a book and ipod blaring. You know what I'm talking about. Be honourable and be safe.

Gangs will be a problem for those who come into contact with them PSHTF but

Most are just thugs and rely on numbers to intimidate, they do carry knives now and will more so after TSHTF but few have access to guns!
After TSHTF you wont be riding the trains but follow the first golden rule DO NOT BE ALONE! Two is good four is better!

Tip If one of yours is targeted, either move or declare war! they only respect violence!
