Storing water or water purification?

You should have both. I see the filter as a backup and to keep my stores topped up during an emergency. There maybe situations when you can't get to the water source or it gets contaminated. After an EMP, how much water can you lug for half a mile when your truck doesn't work? It's important to have supplies on hand, not just "availiable"

Both.

I think water storage is critical. I've seen posts from a lot of folks with water sources nearby. But they seem to have overlooked things such as the big blizzard of last year. I can think of a bunch of possible reasons that a person couldn't access their water supply for a while.

Water is the most important prep of all and should be priority number 1. As such, having several sources, and several ways of purifying it is critical. You can only live for a few days without it.

A lot depends on where you live, and what you are preparing for.

You should have a couple weeks stored if possible, even if you have reliable water supplies. After that whether you store or purify water will depend on how much access to water you will have and the cost of storing water - if you are in a desert you want to store much more than if you live on a river.

Looking at Both Options

I really enjoyed the article at this link for its fairly thorough coverage of both aspects. Though it is heavily weighted towards glass storage of water - which is probably best - it also IDs the best plastics for bottled water storage. Apparently the filtration system it recommends is well-acclaimed. Enjoy!
