Poor people don't care about the stock market. They care about jobs. A high stock market doesn't mean that more people are now being hired or will be hired. A high stock market doesn't mean that those who are struggling with their mortgages will be saved. It only means that those wealthy enough to invest in the stock market are now worth a few more dollars.

Seriously? That's a bit of a generalization I think. I invest in the stock market regularly and I'm no 1% wall street investment banker. I put $50 bucks a paycheck in and try my best to make my investments count. Not everyone that invests is a greedy, wealthy, monopoly guy with a monocle.

The stock market has always moved up and down, many times based more on sentiment than reality. I've made a lot of money with all the volatility the last few years and will probably do the same the next few years. As always I'm cautious but not nervous or scared worrying about the end of the world.

I like the great returns my oil and nat gas investments have given me even when the economy is weak. $94 + oil in this poor economy makes me wonder how high it will go if/when the world recovers.

Investing in the stock market has been very good to me & sure beats sitting in cash and making nothing. Some people think the market is like a casino and use that as a reason to not learn the system. Their choice,no risk = no reward.

My biggest issue with people investing in stocks is that they don't diversify enough. They will pick 6-12 stocks and focus on them. Instead they need about 6-12 indices/areas/sectors. Then the generalization about holding on long enough tends to be true. When one set of indices falter, another will benefit.
