Howdy..., not really sure if this is the appropriate method for introduction, so please forgive me, and feel free to give me proper instruction in the correct manner to post. I've been lurking here off and on for years, and finally determined I should just say hi. I've into prepping since before Y2K, (better safe than sorry) and have been "awake" since the early 90's. Even moved back to the mainland from Hawaii after China "bracketed" Taiwan. Not sure what's coming down the pike, but I believe in being as prepared as possible for the multiple threats we face, from the slow and orchestrated economic slide, to natural or man-made disasters. Seems that "prepping" has gone mainstream, with even TV shows on doomsday preppers, which is a good thing. Too bad these people don't understand operational security. But the more people that are prepared in even a small way will stress the the just-in-time inventory system that much less. Not to mention that there will be fewer people that will come knocking on our doors when the balloon goes up. It's interesting to me that even in our neighborhood, there is a committee being formed for ways to respond to various threats. A local home was burglarized several months ago, and I think it was a wake up call to everyone that even in our rural setting, we are all vulnerable.
So Aloha for now, and I'll be back.

Thanks to the welcome commitee

Hello gang, and thank you all for the gracious welcome.
To fixitman and mikem, do you guys ever try and get together and brainstorm, or just identify each other in southern Oregon. Is that advisable? I have met with one other individual on the Oregon preppers site that is genuine and knowledgeable, but I am apprehensive about revealing details that may compromise OPSEC. I'm in the Rogue Valley too, and looked all over the western US for the best place to relocate to when moving back to the mainland. I had a number of criteria, and identified other areas that were more suitable, but lacked enough economic activity to be practical in order to support my family. Oregon is generally conservative, but the Willamette Valley voting block controls the state, and is of a different mindset. Interestingly, I have learned the counties of southern Oregon and northern California wanted to create their own state in the 40's, the State of Jefferson. You still see an occasional bumper sticker that exalts the idea.
To PremO in Texas, Klamath Falls and outlying areas are great locales in many respects. You probably all know JWRawles identifies part of this area as the American Redoubt. Land is relatively cheap, there are certain areas with good game populations, and the culture is one of an agricultural nature, and mostly conservative. Water is an issue, with coalitions trying to shut the water off for the farmers in order to save salmon migrating up the Klamath River. A number of years ago, there was a huge fight over water there, and people really came out of the woodwork. But all areas have their advantages, or disadvantages. There is some great Chukar hunting in eastern Oregon.
At any rate, thank you all for the welcome, and I will endeavor to find the time to stay in touch regularly.
Aloha,
Kainoa

I am fairly new to the board and haven't met anyone from on here yet but I am open to the idea of networking. The best way to maintain OPSEC would be to meet on neutral ground until comfortable with each other. Always great to sit down over a coffee or beer and chat.

Oregon does have a lot to offer, it is a great place to be!
