A group of miners with stabbing spears, clubs and machetes advancing on R4 carbines, 9 mm's and shotguns. We've seen photos, here's video where you can see them charging and how well rapid fire when backing up works.

They just kept coming until they got cut down.

Looks more like a zombie attack than modern conflict.

Looks like after losing two cops, those South Africans decided that they weren't going to take any hits from Pangas and spears anymore either.

I do like the backing up...some guys let a mere car stop them. I'd be like a cat but going backwards, firing if a band of machete and club waving guys were rushing me.

Actually, in films from another angle (90° right from the mob) you can see:
1) Police are shooting them wiht bean bags, then they start running.
2) You can see at least one of the mob shooting back with a pistol.

About the police mowing them:
1) They are african strikers.
2) A faction fo the strikes already killed some of the other. And 2 cops.
So... can't blame the police.

The cops here are taking a beating over this, incorrectly so i believe.

With all the additional politicizing that is taking place now this has far deeper reaching consequences than most locals even believe, not to mention the rest of the world.

I watch all this intently as it can (as with every other african strike I have had the unfortunate luck to be caught in the middle of) very quickly blow up and out of control AMAZINGLY fast. One loud mouth telling the crowd exactly what they want to hear can quickly result in disaster.

On Saturday the German police retreated when facing 1000 Muslim rioters in Mannheim, Germany.

None of the rioters could be arrested, because the police had to retreat. 600 LEOs did retreat. 80 LEOs were injured, 13 police cars destroyed.

That is the price you have to pay if some left-wing government is in charge (state government) petting the bad guys and not allowing other force than pepper spray.

Most of the exploration and development in RSA's mining industry stopped 10 years ago when the Govt started bastardising the companies (seen as white owned) and the white professional mining engineers and geologists. (We've got a lot of them over here in Oz now). Exploration is usually 10 years ahead of production.

What we're seeing now is the results of this. The pig has moved through the python and the writing is on the wall for these mines. Without developmental and exploration expertise, they will soon exhaust their mapped & proven deposits and start scrabbling in the dark and become unprofitable.

No, that's from Zulu Dawn, depicting Isandlwana, the prequel to the much earlier made Zulu. Isandlwana was a bad one...the Brits lost that one. Lost it bad. Disgracefully, actually...Burt Lancaster tried to warn them, but Peter O'Toole was too arrogant to listen.

In Zulu Michael Caine and some forgotten British actor faced down the Zulus at Roarke's Drift and did much better.

I betcha the Boers were shaking their heads in disgust at the Brits on that war. The Boers faced Zulu Impis with their family, servants, wagons and animals in tow and did better.
