With the approaching solar maximum, there WILL BE a lot of activity up there on the sun, and a lot of news activity down here on earth. This X5.4 that is blowing our way, and preparing to add to the effects we are having right now from earlier events, will cause some stir and possible power disruptions. Even so, it doesn't appear to be very serious. On another thread, and user wrote that searches on flares and meteors results in 500 hits each (the maximum).

It is a busy topic, and I believe that is because there are a lot of questions as to what means what.

On this page are a few links to various resources, some governmental, and others private. It might help a few that are looking to learn how to determine if all the noise really means something.

From what I understand, the closer to the pole, the worse the effects; the closer you go to the equator, the effect reduces.
I am a fair way away from the south pole, so am not too worried...this time. Would have to be a real whopper....like the one in the 1850's......

What concerns me is the possibilty of law enforcement losing comms for a few hours, meanwhile the bad guys make hay while the sun shines. I, with my wife and our children, live in a densely populated, high crime area, surrounded by other high density, high crime areas- anything that potentially disrupts the meager grip law and order hold over my little part of Texas deserves my attention.

Solar Flare 2012 NOW!

U may not know but the world is experiencing the worst solar flare EVER recorded. The flare will hit the earth in a matter of hours and electronics may be down FOR OVER 34 HOURS!

Flight paths have been redirected. My dads away to Angola to do some work offshore and his flight is delayed for 12 hours. As they have to get a new route and avoid the main impact area.

Should be interesting, whats your guys thoughts?!

Lay off the caffeine.

If you drink coffee maybe the decaf would help. The rerouting of flights is because the possibility of a plane going into this storm could affect coms and controls on the planes. We don't want planes falling from the skies. Last year during a solar storm power grids fell off line. Just be aware and stay calm.

not really a whole lot you can do except make sure you arent to far away from anything you may need if something were to happen which it looks like it hasnt. on a side note the trailing here has been the most intense ive seen since ive been watching trails. they trailed through the entire night which is very rare and this morning there were literally hundreds of trails. and more planes laying out more. the more i think about the trails the more i think there are there to protect us even if they may have some side affects..clearly the trailing and the flares are interlinked.
