Do you think you could take a deer with a sling shot?

Do you thing you could knock a deer out with a sling shot, and then finish the job with a knife?

Has anyone here ever tried this?

Now dave cantibury has a systen set up for slingshots that you can hunt with. Its new bands thats twice as heavy as the normal bands. So i would say with the heavy bands and a good sharp broadhead. Id say ya. Its legal to hunt with a 35 or 40lbs bow so with the heavy bands it brings it up to par. Now the slingshot channel thats on here often id say with some of his heavier slingshots you could kill one with a head shot. It would be my last opption.

Well... lets see it's possible of course anything really is possible. It would be easier to lure them in by hand with food some people do feed deer (stubid but they do it) then you just club them the key is pancients and not looking or acting like a threat or being to hyper about them being around just pretend you don't care that they are there and some deer will walk right up to you.

I guess that depends on where you are. Around here it is easy to get a close shot at a deer. I have never shot a deer with a 1000 dollar gun, but have shot plenty with a 150 dollar gun, and my Dad gets them all the time with his 80.00 recurve.

I don't know what it is like where you are though, so I can't say.

I don't think jumping on a deer would be better, because before you could even do anything after jumping on its back the deer would take off. You would most likely get hurt in the process.

Nope.
There may be guys out there who could do it, but I think it would require an amazing amount of dumb-luck for most of us.
Anything can happen though, My Dad had a pig get out once and he threw a stick at it to chase it back in. Stick flew end over end and the tip hit the hog right in the forehead. Stone-dead porker and pig liver for supper. Oops!

Unless you were very lucky you would probably starve to death first. A Snare would be a very good option for getting some meat. And don't think that a live deer is something you can manhandle. I have grabbed a couple that were well shot but not quite dead yet. And they will rough you up with there feet. I am a big man and they shook me around like a rag doll.

I used to practice shooting arrows thru my wristrocket. But never actually trie to shoot a deer with one. I didn't see the penatration being enought to effectivly do the job. I knew a guy who tought he would be a real cowboy and lasso a deer. After 10 minutes of trying to get it loose, he just cut the rope to save the life of his horse who was getting rammed and kicked repeatedly by the deer.

Deer are not as cute and gentle as folks would think. Tthey are WILD and fight for their life as all animals do. I got lucky one time and caught a doe slipping on wet moss, and ran up on her as she fell down and slit her throat before she could get back up. I felt something warm running down my leg, and seen it was my own blood from where she had kicked so hard she ripped a hole in my jeans, a took a hunk out of my leg with those sharp hooves. After I seen the blood and the gash, then it hurt like He11. Wnet to the ER and got 17 stitches. They laughed and could not believe a cute little Bambi could do such a thing.

Slingshot for deer, doubt it

If I were in a totally survival situation and had to kill a deer, I would forget about physically hunting for it. I would set snares that would work 24/7 along good game trails.

Please understand that doing so is TOTALLY ILLEGAL, but we are talking a hypothetical situation.

Yes, I do know how to set snares for large and small animals. I have snare materials in some of my preps.

To answer the OP question about killing deer with a slingshot, I guess it could be done, but IMHO, VERY unlikely and inhumane. I agree that "if" you could hit the deer, you are more likely to only cause an injury to that animal. Would it cause the deer to go off and die elsewhere? That all depends on where and how you hit it and with what projectile.

Personally, I would not even attempt it. Again, if I was in a survival situation and my life depended on my getting a deer to feed my family and myself, snares is how I would do it and I'd set more than one to increase my odds well over what someone with a slingshot has of killing a deer.

Jus sayin

What if you were in a survival situation, and you had nothing to snare with, but you did have a slingshot?

Seriously you might want to pay attention. This is in the wilderness survival section.

Yup I hunt, probably more than you have. Yes I know deer can run far when hit with a bullet in the vitals, sometimes they also fall right over, especially if you hit them with a 12 gauge in the heart and lungs area. Have you ever shot one in the brain? They don't run to far when that happens.

"First that is a crime and highly unethical".

LOL......this thread is in the wilderness survival section.

If you get stranded somewhere, and are starving are you going to wait until hunting, or fishing season comes along before you eat?

You are not going to knock a deer out with a slingshot. I once tried to put one down with a tire iron after my lady friend hit it with her car. Its back was broken, so it couldn't leave, but try as I might, I just couldn't knock it out with the tire iron, let alone kill it. I just don't see it happening with a sling shot.

I've used the Wrist Rocket slingshots for quite a few years now. Ordered my first one from Popular Mechanics in 1972. The slingbow notion came along about three years later, and I wasn't overly impressed with the power that the thing put out when I compared it to my recurve bow. Compounds weren't around at that point.

When the whiskerbiscuit came along, a few years back, I took another look at the notion, and built myself another one. Accuracy is better, power still sucks, but if you get close, it will handle medium game with a good broadhead.
