Always top up the fuel tank in your vehicle when it is at the 1/2 way mark or above..

nearly every passenger vehicle has a tank sized to its particular fuel economy so as to allow a range of about 350 miles or better,, thus,, if you get caught just before filling at 1/2 empty,, you will in an emergency, *not necessarily SHTF,, it could be you need to go to see a dying relative or something,, or simply get out of the path of a hurricane,,----- you will have about 175 miles of fuel anyway,, enough to get you further from or out of danger,, or if the power is out in your area,, possibly far enough away that you could find fuel stations in service

this is imHo.. even more critical for those in an urban or other dense population...

Brainstorm it first. Here's a little acronym for you = FACES

F = focus on what you want to do
A = action plan, brain storm it for a while, then work out a plan
C = Create action - do the plan, change it if you need to
E = End - finish it, so many go half way but never finish.
S = Slap yourself on the back for a good job done.

Dunno that I buy into the notion of "2 is 1 and 1 is none" It reads well but.....if I only have 1 knife, then I have just one, not high and dry bare handed. 2 tents, 2 sleeping bags etc in your pack? Hardly. I'm all for redundancy, small stuff like lighters, space blankets etc but still, one is not none. Just saying is all.....

PAY ATTENTION.

It doesn't matter if it's while driving, in class, at work, in the woods, while carrying, whatever. Pay attention. Know what's going on.

Always.
this..what he said....
my advice extends from that...which is: "don't be there"

whether it's a personal defense fight cause you were out too late at night , or a shopping mall shootout, or gas/water shortage..whatever...

we prep enough so that we don't have to go to the store or the gas station etc when the rest of the city is in a panic.

but we also know to move our fannies at the first sign of serious trouble..ie when 9/11 hit... my wife and i had communicated, rounded up the daughter who as out with the driving instructor, I stopped for fuel and a couple extra things on the way home and was still tucked into the house with the family safe n sound, watching the horror on TV while many folks I know were still at work or gridlocked in parking decks etc.

We moved out of the city suburbs over a decade ago now, into the country a bit, much more self sufficient...room to garden, natural water on the property, wood, room for livestock, etc...but most important..we are out away from town...stuff gets ugly...we aren't going to be in the midst of it...nor do we need to run into the storm just to buy milk n bread.

best way to win a fight..is to not be in it.

Take one step every day. Do something to prepare every day. Do something to take care of you every day.

Example: Monday DEEP Cleaned house Borrowed a family movie from library
Tuesday Checked Bug In Kits (Ebola, flu, and in our area nuclear waste spill on highway) Went hiking, swimming and fishing with son
Wednesday Sold some animals - paid off more mortgage actually selling animals was my take care of me moment too
Thursday Taught a neighbor how to butcher her old hens and helped her do it Ate dinner at her house!!
Friday Paid bills Dinner and movie date with hubby
Saturday Fixed fence Again (goats)!! Got goat and llama kissies. Cuddled with the lambs and read a good book
Sunday Church Son and husband cooked dinner!!

Have fluidity/flexibility when confronted with a problem.

One might have...

Plan A

Plan B

Plan C and so on...

.....it's entirely possible that every plan of action will fail....when it does, move on.

Every problem has a solution, some solutions are better than others.
