I have a concealed handgun permit but cannot always carry. I teach in a public high school and work out and shop at the local military bases where they do not trust me with my firearms. In my truck, I keep a three inch foldable knife and one of those "tactical" flashlights with the DNA collectors on the end. I also carry pepper spray while walking the canine even while carrying. I expect to use the spray more against another animal than a human since I live at the edge of a national forest. Another item I have seen and heard people recommend is wasp spray. That kind that shoots 10 or 15 feet. I've never used it against a person but it works great against flying insects and it is legal to carry.

Thanks guys for the suggestions. I would use a bat, but I drive a single cab Ford Ranger and dont have space to keep one within reach. Like bear and pepper spray but have be hit by drift before and kinda makes me against it lol. As for stun guns a tasers, I haven't looked into them much yet so I'll do that for a little while
Pick ups are great for weapons most people just keep them in the bed drivers side so they can step out reach over the bed and have it. I used to strap a Handy Man jack to the side the detachable handle makes a mean weapon.

If you have to worry about theft get an old axe handle pour a little oil on the end no one will want it.

pepper sprays intended for bear defense is accurate to about 30 feet. if you club anyone with a tomohawk even in self defense, the law will do anything and everything to get you behind bars. it may even be illegal to carry such weapons in your vehicle, depending on where you live. most states allow a person 18 years of age to carry a hand gun, this will depend on your state's open carry laws.

Also from Ky. Forget the black powder revolver. Considered a firearm by Ky. law definition even though not by the Feds. Go figure! And it would still be a concealed weapon. Buy a tire thumper. Resembles a small baseball bat and is used by truck drivers to check to see if tires on thier rigs are ok. Not to mention is a great self-defense tool. You can get them at Tractor Supply for around $10-$12. Or maybe order somewhere. If that doesn't fit the bill, maybe a little leauge baseball bat (wood not metal) or an escrima stick?

Any number of things could be carried. For example a piece of metal conduit used for electrical work. Tractor supply has axe handles and horse crops that might cause injury too?

My advice is that when you go to trips like these, plan to stay overnight, so then you can legally bring your gun not loaded but magazines loaded if is legal in your state.

Here in california you can have the magazines loaded even in the same safe or locked bag when being transported.

I keep a cheap two piece pool cue in a case in my truck, the back end makes a very nice 3 foot club when/if I need it. Plus, you can roll into your local pool hall looking like Tom Cruise from his "the color of money" days and 5-0 won't even question why you are rolling around with it in your rig. Get a $10 Nebo skull cracker 100 lumen flashlight for your off hand and you are good to go. Speaking of the 1/2 inch ratchet as a weapon, i have actually seen one used as such and it was quite effective.

First mistake letting him follow and blocking you in. Pull over let mr sketchy go by. next mistake after dark another no bueno the cover of darkness is great for shady people. I agree the mag light the brighter the better streamlight make great 120 lumen rechargeables a quick shot with one to the eyes to disorient followed by a shot to the knee with a snap kick, smash across the nose with light and finally finish with kick to stomach ribs or other vital areas. When you go for the knee your kicking through it. And if those dont work a straight hand chop across the throat will work wonders to dissuade further conflict.

For the tire thumper check state and local regs. In some states if you don't have a cdl you have no biz carrying one since its an oak club filled with lead. The louisville behind the seat is great since its very innocuous but in bad situations its universally understood. Same with a ratchet or a straight edged pry bar my suggestion up to a 3/4 a 1/2 really ain't that big. A good 1 1/2 inch box wrench has a similar calming effect on most people. Edged weapons have one purpose and one purpose only so if used the state may come for you to make an example. Not fair but its the justice system we have.

Hey, guys. Sorry I haven'y been able to update this in a while. Thanks for all of your advice. I am now keeping a ratchet like I mentioned earlier, tucked between my seat and console and my 3 cell mag light close as well. I also constantly keep a type of long handled tool in my bed as well. Thanks again!
