I love mine, it's 27 yrs old. Bought it brand spanking new too.

 

Very nice! If I had the money to spend extra over a GP100 or any Ruger revolver, I would.

All S&W have locks now; doesn't hamper operation at all. However pre-lock guns are more valued because they often also have hammer mounted firing pins, no MIM parts, etc. The X86 are awesome, I have 2!

 

It was $700. I love my dads 686 but he doesnt want to give it up so I had to buy my own. His is about 25 years old and looks brand new. I like his better then the new ones because his has the hammer mounted firing pin and no lock but I cant find one for sale for 500 miles of where I live.
Lets hope I can shoot it as well as I can shoot his.

 

The key lock should not be an issue.

But here we go:

You have to know what you are doing.

I also own 3 S&W revolvers, two with internal lock (649, .357 Mag, J-frame and a 629, .44 Mag 3"). Never had problems with the internal locking system, even with hot loads (e.g. Speer Gold Dot, Samson/IMI in the .44 Mag).

Look for a Desantis Speed Scabbard or Thumb break Scabbard. Or a Galco Fletch. Desantis is my first choice. if it fits a 4" 686, it'll fit your 3". Add a few speed loaders and you're in business.

 

I use a Bianchi #16 for my 6in 686. I like the full flap design. Better protection for the gun. Not much on "quick draw" but in my opinion if you are trying to quick draw a pistol you are probably in such deep poo that it really isn't going to matter.

 

I own a 4" 586...purchased new in 1988 if memory is correct. I paid $280.00 for it new. This is a fine...fine revolver.

 

NEVER sell it. Never.
