Are they good? Do you like it if you have one? $399

If the pistol you linked to is the one the OP was referring to, that was a helluva deal.

Have a compact RIA 1911 .45 that up until a couple of months ago I'd've sworn by. Owned for 8 years and shot at least 1,000 rounds through. It was the infamous 'truck gun'. It started to FTF and then worse yet would jam a round 1/2 way into battery. The last 2 hang-ups required beating the slide open to remove the unfired bullet. I'm wondering if the hundreds of miles in a holster banging around on my dirt bike along with 100,000 miles in the door pocket of the truck (along with 4wheeling) messed it up. It's lived a hard life...
So, Yes at that price especially, I'd buy one.

I have a full size Rock. I replaced the smooth grips with cocobolo grips which dressed it up nicely. It currently rests in condition 1 with a Hogue wrap around. I bought it before they started putting it out with the big logo on the slide. It’s a good shooter. I like it better than my son’s Springfield. I’ve never had any failures.

They seem significantly heavier than other 1911s I handled from Ruger, Springfield, and Kimber. I haven't checked, but I suspect the Rockie is full steel and the others have aluminum slides and other major components. wouldn't make a difference until you have to pack it for significant distances.

Ya'll shoot straight and stay safe out there.

I have a couple made by these Philippine makers, Rock Island, ATI, some others. They are the biggest manufacturers of 1911s I believe. They make a LOT of them. They feel competently made, good quality. They do use MIM parts which many people don't like but I don't know that it matters much.

$400 in today's market for a good 1911 is a swell deal...

I and several people I know own the RIA Tactical model and we have all been VERY pleased.

As leadcounsel mentioned, Armscor (maker of Rock Island and a couple other brands) is the largest manufacturer of 1911s in the world.

I've had a RIA compact (basically an all steel Commander) for about six and a half years. I bought it as a retirement gift to myself. I pulled off the fat factory wood grips and put on some thin Hogue rubber stocks. I bought and installed a low-profile ambi-safety, beveled the mag well a little bit and rounded a few of the sharper edges on the tang. It's been great and not given me a moment's trouble (one caveat: I once had a tiny bit of paperclip break off in the little hole in the recoil spring guide. I didn't know it, but it went through a couple hundred rounds and only hiccuped when I stripped it for cleaning. That was not a problem from the gun, just a screwup on my part).
