This has been in practice since 2012, it's nothing new. I used to manage a Regal theatre.

The first policy change was after the Aurora movie theatre shooting, along with an employee checking to make sure the emergency exit doors are closed and minimum of 2 times during a movie. And the Ushers were required to check the doors when they cleaned up after a show.

And at our theatre, anything bigger than a purse was required to be kept at the front desk. No back packs, giant tote bags, shopping bags were allowed in theatre..

Last time I checked, you have your bags checked going into any sporting event, theme park, concerts, really any entertainment event/venue. This is nothing new.

It's advertised, so you don't have to go if you don't like it. There are already no concealable weapon signs on the door. And during my time, there were quite a few people that ended up getting arrested for having firearms in the theatre, it was fairly common. We also denied admittance to plenty of people that refused the bag search. I think most people were more worried about being caught with their own drinks and snacks lol.

I'm all for protecting yourself and family, but realize it's not the public and there are consequences for violating a private companies policy.
If someone makes it into the theater concealing a firearm how did it later come to managements attention that they were carrying? Did they take it out to play with? Not understanding.

Numerous states and jurisdictions allow off duty in uniform work...Its up to the ruling authority and in all of the ones I know of they are fully sanctioned Law Enforcement with all powers...You see it all over Louisiana and the New Orleans PD has done it for decades...Its not really a matter of whether some citizen "likes" it or "approves" of it...The courts have upheld their use of powers...THATS what counts

It varies state by state and there HAVE been legal questions around their actions (generally with LEO's actions as bouncers) this is why I bring it up. I have no problem with a LEO acting as private security/bouncer, but if they are employed as that, they they need to follow those requirements/restrictions and NOT law enforcement ones. They are vastly different.

They become pitbulls for hire...frats take advantage of it.

I know from experience dude. :thumb:

A local chain in this area posted one of their theaters against concealed carry, and the backlash encouraged them to take the sign down and agree to follow state laws.

Hi xxxxx,
I just wanted to let you know that we have removed the sign prohibiting licensed concealed carry from Smitty's Cinema in Topsham (the only Smitty's location where it was posted). We will proceed based on standard state laws and regulations. Please pass this information on to your fellow enthusiasts.
Thanks,
xxxxxxxxxxx

This happened in my area as well. It was not limited to Regal, several businesses put up signs like that. Now, they are strangely all gone . . .

Follow the Money

I would imagine if you hand the kid in the red vest your ticket and just ignore their bag inspection request you could walk right into the theater. They are getting paid minimum wage and typically aren't going to challenge an adults authority. Go get your overpriced soda and popcorn and if the manager in a red vest with a tie shows up just tell him NO when he ask to inspect. If he doesn't like it then tell him to refund your money. While he may think he has the authority to inspect your bags he will be loath to refund you $50 cash for your tickets and food.

Oddly when entering a theater the NO Smoking and NO outside food or drink signs are prominently displayed. Typically the only Gun signs I see are those in the movie promo posters and they are very Pro Gun with lots of cool looking guns. If you look really hard you might see a single red slashed circle gun sign.

The rare times I go to a movie I carry an extra magazine and a really bright flashlight. Also very picky about where I sit.

No metal detectors or armed guards, this is useless gesture. It seems that if you have a gun on your person, you are good, as they don't seem to be doing pat downs.
There is now way I am letting some pimple faced teenager in a red vest feel up my wife (or me).

They're just doing this for the $$$, can't sneak in sodas and candy anymore then.
Bingo! As usual, follow the money and you will find your answer. Add in the bonus that they avoid Moms Demand groups boycott threats.

You can still get creative. I've never had any theater ask to look in my cargo pockets. I smuggled drinks in several times when my diet was severely restricted and I couldn't drink anything they had for sale. (Except water, of course)

But I don't bother with smuggling in drinks otherwise. Our Regal theater had a deal almost 20 years ago that if you bought a large drink, and we're talking massive cups, you keep the cup and get free refills for life. The dropped the promotion fairly quickly, but we bought 3 cups. Several years later, the theater went from being sponsored by Pepsi to being a Coke outlet. Since the original cups said Pepsi, they had to reissue new cups to those with the originals, again for free.

At any rate, those cups have probably saved us a couple hundred dollars over the years as we go to the movies about once a month, at least if anything good is playing. Our Regal theater is a classy place with an adult clientele and I've never had any problems with idiots or being searched or anything like that. It's always a pleasant experience.

And there is no sign about guns that I've ever seen.

No more smuggling in my Subway sammich an 6 pack of beer in the wifes big purse:mad:
Why don't you have your wife make you a sammich, eat at home before the movie and drink the beer after the movie? How many times do you usually get up, having your rump block the screen, fart/burp and then step on the people's feet to go pee pee with that redneck Subway beer combo?

The funny thing is, the people that through a hissy fit and wanted a refund, were usually there the next week again. Food 9/10 does NOT get refunded. And no, refunding $50 doesn't hurt theaters at all. They don't make money off of ticket sales.

Should have seen this one lady get so angry about being asked for her bag to be searched, she threw a cup at one of our employees, her tears when she was arrested for assualt:rofl:

I haven't been to a movie in over 15 years. Hollywood actors and actresses are paid whores who make me sick. I'm glad they frisk everybody and check all their bags now. I hope people stop going to movies and all those disgusting Hollywood freaks stop finding work.
Yep with you tube and other outlets on the ready, those elitists should diminish. However they are in the same way constantly in social media presenting their perversion for aimless souls to follow as role models

I know the amount is meaningless but the hassle of refunding cash is a challenge in most corporate environments. You have to find someone with authority, then a form, then getting access to the cash. All this after I have repeatedly refused the offer of free passes for future movies.

I'll sit in my seat and watch the movie I paid to watch until they refund my cash then I will leave. Should be able to get about half way through the movie before all the paperwork gets done.

...then step on the people's feet to go pee pee with that redneck Subway beer combo?
I thought that was what the popcorn buckets on the floor were for. While I am joking I am sure Capt Hair can tell you some horror stories of what is in those discarded popcorn buckets.

Pee? Thats what the empties are for. :D: The kid that sweeps up will get them.:thumb:

Eh, doesn't take longer than 30 seconds to do a refund. At our theatre we had a separate drawer at guest services with a manger up there at all times. Yes we would prefer to give you a free pass to come back, but whenever I was up there, if you said no, I wasn't pressing the matter. The process is so automated you just close out the computer, it prints the the number of refunds and the amount. Enter it when you close at the end up the night and that's it. Other than making sure totals add up at the end of the night, refunds weren't even kept track of past that, at least not a individual theatre level.

Only horror stories I have about the refillable popcorns and drinks were people digging them out of the trash and trying to get refills. Absolutely disgusting:xeye:
