Prostate Cancer? & Blood in the semen - anybody else??

so, ive had prostatitis for several years now. I had been on 5mg of Terazosin for about 5 years, then up to 10 mg for 3 years. My urinary symptoms got pretty bad, urge to go became constant, many bathroom trips but couldnt force it, never emptied, and very low pressure stream.

Recently had an exam (hurt like freakin hell!) and doc started me out on two new prescriptions, Finasteride 5 mg and Tamsulosin 0.4 mg every night, then he put me on a one week course of one antibiotic and after that a two week coarse of another. ive finished with the last antibiotic about a week ago.

Im still somewhat symptomatic but had a scare this weekend! After being with the wife I found that i have blood in my semen now!!! and no, it wasnt from her (just trust me on this, no explanation, but no, not from her......:)

There was no injury, i am not on significant blood thinners, im 47 years old, multiple diagnoses (controlled diabetes, fibromyalgia, arthritis, severe sleep apnea, controlled high blood pressure, recent aneurysm repairs, chronic pain, chronic fatigue, serious neuropathy in extremities blah, blah, blah...)no STDs (only with the missus for, well, ever, shes my one and only!).

My worry is my genetics. Of my illnesses/disorders/injuries, i had them at a younger age than my dad, from 5 - 6 yrs younger for my back going out (him 33, me 28), high blood pressure 10- 12 yrs younger, and 20 plus years younger for an aneurysm (complex, large, 3 surgeries as chronicled here in the health section).

Now to this problem; dad died in January of very aggressive prostate cancer at the age of 71. He fought it for 4 years but it took him quickly. NOTE: i was alone with him the morning he died..... Im glad it was me & not my mom or brother, it was very very bad....

Anyway, with my prostate problems already nearing 10 years and the fact i got such a severe aneurysm and other illnesses so much younger than him, im a little concerned that im precancerous/early cancer stage.

Have any of you guys (or gals with significant others) have had blood in the semen? shouldnt be any more infection of the prostate after nearly a month of antibiotics right?? I am gonna call the doc on monday and tell him of it, see what he says. Im just looking for any of you that have had this and your experiences, including if you're dealing with prostate cancer.

I know that im gonna die some day, we all do, and with my issues and genetics ill be lucky to live past 55 - 60. I just want to know whats going on so i can make the best i can of the time ive got and NOT drag my family through a long bout of "fighting" prostate cancer and running up huge bills for the family, i wont do it. i saw how hard it was on my mom & dad and how badly my aneurysm surgeries hurt our finances two years ago.....

Any wisdom/experience you have will be welcome!

EDIT TO ADD: forgot to add, i am more fatigued than usual, was doing well 2 months ago but since then, its gotten worse. low appietite, and losing some weight...

Diagnosed with Prostate cancer July 2015, had it removed September 2015, thankfully they got it all. Only time I had blood in my semen was after I had the biopsy that detected the cancer. I had ZERO symptoms prior other than poor urinary performance, (low pressure and took a long time to empty).

Man with your history get checked! Soon! Its beatable but you have to catch it early to have the best chance.

I read up on Prostate issues since hubby has been having problems. I found out about using a combo of Pygeum Bark and CoQ10 it has helped him since he started on it a few weeks ago. But if you suspect you have something more serious get in to see a Doc right away. Early detection is always the best chance of beating any cancer. Also, if it turns out not to be cancer then it will take a lot of stress off your mind.

I had pink baby batter for a week or so after walking into a square topped bed post in the middle of the night. It was just the right height for sharp corner to score a direct hit in the gentlemen's department and burst some small blood vessel in my plumbing system.

gents,
I'm 44 and a month or so, and noticing similar issues. things just aren't working right. I'm sure some understand. no blood in the batter yet, but suddenly urges, and not much happens..etc. my grandpa just died at 84 a couple months ago. his doc said men die FROM or WITH prostate cancer. my gramps was taken from me. he tought me to hunt, fish, sharpen a knife, all of it. one day we wake up and realize we all travel that path of genetics at some point. I'm not desiring a finger in the wazoo, however at least have a conversation with your doctor.

Been on the same meds off and on for years now, trying to find the best, and/or better remedies. Doxazosin and Finasteride were reasonable medications. Bottom line; as long as you still have a prostrate you'll most likely be hopping from med to med, but nothing "cures" the risk of prostate cancer save having the bloody thing cut out.

I'm 46 and had the exact same thing you describe, in all its gory details. I went through an aggressive treatment of it last December, and zero problems since then.

Don't read this next part if you've got a weak stomach....

In addition to antibiotics (injected at the doctors office four times per week), I had then inject medicine directly into my urethra (via a small tube inserted into my pee-hole).

Then there was 15 minutes with an electo-stimulator thing up my butt.

Then there was a ROUGH prostate massage by a pitiless female urologist. It HURT!

I did this three or four times per week for three weeks or so. It was a pain in the ass (literally), but worked like magic. Chronic prostatitis GONE!

Regular ejaculation is important. Cycling fluids through that area helps to prevent infection, and the subsequent inflammation.

Good luck! I don't think just taking antibiotics orally is gonna do it for your condition, you're going to have to do something like I did.

after vising my doc and spending way too much, his main advice was if you drink anything but water... stop it.
no coffee, no tea, no soda, no beer. humans need water, everything not water takes water to digest. being dehydrated is bad.

everything but water can inflame your bladder, will cause you to always feel like you want to go.

he said drink just water. I say this as I'm drinking my second free cup of coffee at work. so yeah...slow learner...whatever.

if you have high blood pressure like I do, lose weight as soon as you can. extra weight means harder work for your systems, and the meds will kill you if the hbp doesn't...more then a few people told me hbp meds will trash your kidneys. CKD is something that once the power goes out, if your on dialysis you aren't going to survive more then a few days if you have zero kidney function. :/

I've lost 25lbs since I changed my diet and started exercising again- my goal weight is 180lbs (being 6ft) so I still have some work to do...but it's do-able...
if you manage to get the diet right and eat non-processed real foods *not shyte in a box* your body should be healthy, diet is the real key though

...get a good physical exercise program, so you will be encouraged to eat right so you function better...
your call on doing what ever...for me it is judo.

I've read and done some green juice fasts, if you think you have cancer, or a serious health issue/disease go to your doctor (don't ask for free advice on a survival forum, as most ppl here aren't doctors -advice here is subjective, wrong and maybe not very helpful or even dangerous- when you could be consulting a doctor.)

that being said...

sadly I'm allergic to carrots... :/ but this info might be helpful to someone that needs it.
good luck, and I hope things work out for the best.

I'm not a doctor, but will contribute my 2 cents.

The normal herbal stuff for the prostate is Saw Palmetto and Pygeum.
I think it is reasonable that the equipment should be fired daily to keep the chamber clean.
Eating a few soft boiled or soft cooked eggs every morning should help with that, as they are supposedly a Testosterone promoter.

In my opinion, pretty much everyone is deficient in Copper (healthy arteries and prevents aneurism), Magnesium (Energy and heart beating), and Iodine (supposedly prevents heart disease and cancer, as well as regulating the thyroid and pretty much everything in the body. The Japanese ingest about 40 times more iodine than we do in the west due to their high seafood diet and our depleted farm soils.

Iodized salt is insufficient and hit or miss. Iodine loves to sublimate (evaporate) away.
Calcium is also required for proper blood pressure. Calcium Citrate is likely more digestable than Tums.

Damn auto correct! Every damn word that is beyond a 5 year old kid's vocabulary gets changes to some easier word.
Ingest got changed to inject for example. and insufficient got changed to in-sufficient.

Everyone swears there is no auto correct on this website. I certainly don't have it enabled on my machine. Maybe the NSA changes my spelling!

Have you thought about seeing a different doctor and getting their opinion? I had an issue once and the doc wanted to do surgery to remove things. Ended up going to a specialist they found out it was a misdiagnosis another series of tests over a year prove it was nothing to worry about. However if I had stuck with the first guy l would have been on medication the rest of my life. Would have done it if needed but i sure would have been upset to find out it was nothing. In your case you may want to check and make sure it's not something that the first guy is missing.

My best friend since elementary school missed a couple of yearly p.s.a., then had one and has a very aggressive prostate cancer. They give him two years to live with treatment. It has been a month since he requested payment for the treatment from medicare and has heard nothing. Knowing obama wants to just let us elders go away somewhere and die, we are 70, I advised him to contact his U.S. Senator & Rep. for help with medicare. He did not say anything about blood in his semen, but he was always very sexually active, we both are.

B.T. This forum is not the place to be diagnosed for Prostate cancer. Change Doctors. Tell new Dr. you want a PSA blood test. That test saved my life. Thanks to my Dr. asking "Oh by the way when was your last PSA Test?" I am alive today. My count was over 50 for those of you who have been there, done that. Two Dr's told me to put my affairs in order. Happy to say I am a six year survivor. With a .002 count every year.
If you men out there are over 50, get a PSA test every year. It could save your life.

Thanks everyone! actually, not looking for a diagnosis here, just experiences and stories & wisdom gained from peoples experiences.

Actually, my doc is very reluctant to do a PSA test, at my age, as there are many things that can raise the results including an infection or prostatitis. I am getting a little worried about his reluctance to test me, considering my health issues that i share with my dad and his dying of aggressive prostate cancer. I just hate to do an end run around him and **** him off by hurting his ego. other than not doing a PSA test, he's been a great doc. I think when i call him on Monday im gonna do a PSA test.

Of coarse this could also be coming from the seminal vesicles or vas deferens?

I second SnakeRiverJake. Last year in May, my PSA went just above 4. (I have yearly physicals and I am 67) I had the biopsy (12 small plugs from my prostate through my rectum) The doc found two of the 12 had cancerous traces. My options 1) let it go and have a yearly biopsy, 2) have the prostate removed through surgery, 3) Cyberknife (precision radiation treatments). I elected 3. After MRI and Catscan and insertion of gold markers (like the biopsy), I underwent 5 one-hour treatments in 2 weeks last Aug. Now, my PSA is at 0.44 and my doc says that she has never had a patient have any prostate cancer problem if PSA is under 0.5. If you have a choice, I very highly recommend this relaxing procedure. (you lie on your back, not moving, for the hour and then you are done.)

I had prostate cancer in the past 5 years. My course of treatment was radiation. I believe your doctor needs to pull his head out of his exhaust port and do a PSA. I am not even sure how he decided you have prostatitis without one. When you said you under went a not so much fun testing, did you have a biopsy? If so, do you know what the lath report said about the cores. How long ago was it. If you had sex close enough to the test you will have blood in your semen. I did for about 3 weeks. Please if your doc is not a urologist, get one. Family doc's only tend to work around the edges. You need to get checked out by a GOOD urologist who specializes in prostate issue. DOn;t fool with this.

The PSA is just an indicator, a biopsy is the gold standard to determine if cancer is present. A biopsy is uncomfortable, but it'll give you the real truth.

As an aside, I had a PSA done in 2012, it was 2.38, in the normal range. By May of 2015 it had gone to 6.49,(I didn't have a test in the intervening years). When I asked my private doc why he hadn't ordered one during that time, (the VA found the elevated level and the cancer), he told me current Obamacare guidance is testing once every five years. Had I not been diagnosed when I was and had to wait two further years to find it......... Don't even want to entertain that possibility.

Bottom line, if you're 50 or older, demand it yearly!

well, ok, now more bad stuff....

i had noticed that when im urinating theres like 3 inch to 5 inch sections of the stream coming out that are very dark brown!! however, ive heard that if you have blood in the urine its supposed to look like coffee grounds in the bowl???

will add this to the report on monday and demand a PSA & possibly a biopsy!

To answer, no, ive never had a biopsy taken.

Thank you all!
