Prepper valentines day gift?

So Valentines day is coming around and lately my boyfriend of 9 months has been much more open to prepping. I worry about him all the time and lately he's been saying how his leathermen multi tool has been rusting a tiny bit on the inside, making it harder for him to close. I've been considering getting him a new one or maybe some other sort of gift that could help him survive if something happened. Of course I'll still put together a cutesy thing but I want the gift to actually be useful, I highly doubt a teddy bear would be useful to him. Any ideas or comments, Ladies? I'd love to hear what you think! Thank you for taking the time to read this!

nothing says i love more than a good water filter. i gave one to my mom for Christmas. i wasn't sure she would like it. shes not a prepper. she said "with the state of the world today this thing could come in handy one day".. it shows you care more than just superficially. everyone knows they need clean water.

I don't want to butt in, but I kinda do so....

The leatherman can be cleaned. I little penetrating oil and some steel wool and the rust should come off. Put a bit of silicone spray on the moveable parts and wipe off the excess. If he has the right tool he can even take it apart and clean each bit individually. Men take pride in having things like knives, guns, and multi-tools for a long time. The wear on these items shows they care enough to keep the item in good shape and they know how to use it effectively.

BTW, leatherman offers a no questions asked lifetime warranty on the multi-tools.

As a long time "planner/prepper" I've used my dremel multi-tool a lot to do all kinds of things. If he likes to tinker or do things with his hands, maybe small do-it-yourself survival items, a dremel is handy.

Sorry to jump in, but thought it might help.

Have Fun.

You could also get a gift certificate to someplace like Cabelas... For the amount of a gift you think he would like... If he doesn't want that item, he can still get something outdoorsy with the gift card.

Also, might not be terribly romantic (to other people) but putting together a car/truck ER kit might be a really great way to show you care. Include a set of tools including wrenches, etc, some basic 1-2 day food packets, gloves, tow rope, LED headlamp etc, etc... Shows you want for him to be safe, prepared and able to handle his own problems... Could prolly put all this together if you shop around for less than $100, more if you really want to splurge and make a serious kit.

And if you let him know you put it together so he can get back to you quickly and safely if he has any car problems, he'll know you definitely want him around!

Right, an abrasive cloth and some WD40 will clean that rust up very quickly. But, a new Leatherman shows him you listen to what he's saying.

If you're looking for something material to get him, you could take a look around these forums and see if there's an item in peoples' BOBs that he doesn't have. Of course, you could replace the Leatherman, which may be why he seems to be dropping hints about it :thumb:

For something non-material, you could suggest testing out some of his gear/skills with a practice bug out. I know that I'd love it if my GF offered to do that :D:

I bought my wife a pink trimmed, woodland camo boonie hat. Your Bo might like one of those. :)

How about you buy or put together a GHB or mini survival kit, and sew it inside a sort of macho stuffed animal. Like a bulldog or a mean looking bear.

Tell him even if the world ends you want him to be able to get back to you.

I don't really do Valentine's Day (first one with my bf, let's see how seriously he takes that...I'm hoping no gifts honestly), but our anniversary is soon after and I just discovered the paracord survival bracelets! That would be sweet as a VDay gift, since it's "jewelry" and survival. Probably too late to order but here's some on Etsy

Well, I asked for solar panels for a combo Valentines Bday but I will get a candy basket. He always gets me flowers and candy!!!

I have ideas!!!

Freezedried strawberries with bags of choc. chips or cans of cocoa.

Jar of honey for your honey.

romantic bath basket with year supply of soap, bubble bath, pack of wash clothes, pack of razors, shaving cream.

Meat. lol Yep.
I'll be grilling fillet Mignon and veggies for the family. There's a store nearby that has beef you can cut with a plastic fork. :) Nope... no candy. The beef is so good.. I always eat a few slices raw with a little salt and pepper.

And a basket of fruit while I can still get decent fruits. That's about it.

Delicious and less expensive than a mediocre dinner out. I get to grill!

Well, it certainly isn't anything we would do every day. I keep an eye out for sales. lol You can also make some very tender beef from less costly beef cuts by buying it ahead of time and aging it in a marinade at home. Amazing what a week in the fridge in a home made marinade can do! I can make a great steak for less $ that way.....one thing I will do is have the butcher cut the beef a bit thicker than normal.. like 1" to 1 1/2". Or, very thinly sliced beef that I fry quickly in an iron skillet...makes a great breakfast steak or an open faced sandwich with some off the shelf beef gravy.
There are some good steak hints on Youtube videos. :)

We don't do the pricy beef cuts very often... it's usually just for a special occasion a few times a year.

WSierra that sounds so good! I "splurged" and got the "good" chicken for chicken parm, and some cocktail shrimp (on sale!). It's definitely nice to do now and then, way better than candy or meaningless gifts. Oh I'm hungry thinking about it..

Wish I could have gotten a nice steak, but he'd insist on cooking it...on the grill. Which would mean we'd have to be at his place, where we always get interrupted by his friends who live in the apartment upstairs. No thanks!
