GP5K back in the house after a brief hiatus....

So the election, Sandy, and Iran are getting me refocused back on prepping. My first order of battle is to redo my GHB to make it lighter. I've also started reading through the Sandy threads, as I think these are some of the most practical lessons learned.

But, I am still digesting what happened. Several of my far right friends are in total despair. I've spent enough of my life in despair to let the reconfirmed assclown-in-chief (he doesn't deserve capital letters) bring my mood down. My closest friends are not even answering their phones, farting around with Facebook, making weekend plans, etc. It's a bit silly I think. Is B.O. bad for this country - you bet. But he isn't the first in my lifetime and won't be the last. Life is what you make out of it.

I am however, more concerned about the prospects of an economically bad future for the country. I do believe the weather patterns are changing and not for the better for the Mid-Atlantic/Northeast. So I am redoubling my efforts to be better prepared and more self-sufficient.

Soooooo....how did the recoronation of King Hussein affect everyone's plans?

As a parting thought, here were my summary thoughts on the election:

Last night was somewhat of an awakening for me. I'm still mulling things over, but I've come to the conclusion that 1/3 of the country wants free **** and another 1/3 of the country wants free **** from their parents. As a nation, we are rapidly becoming morally bankrupt and firmly on the path to becoming a full-blown welfare state. The complicit mainstream media has helped usher in this new er
a where presidents are no longer elected to office based on their values, accomplishments, and what they can do to make America a better place, but rather on their star power, ability to raise money, make talk show hosts swoon, and make their supporters feel "cool" because they are rising up against the system. Unfortunately, that "system" is the same one that made this country great, gave them their free ****, and it will be the same one to grind them back down.

The only thing we can do at this point is to ensure that our children are not sucked into this sphere of influence where rap music is cool, everyone is a winner, everything is given to them by parents without earning it, and expecting to be on easy street as soon as they are done with college. The sense of entitlement by the younger generation, more specifically the sense of entitlement by the disenfranchised merging with the pop-culture urban wannabes of suburban children, is creating a new generation where things are only going to get worse. We can only influence our own little spheres. I fear our ability to defend this country in another 10-15 years - "Sarge...I am NOT going to charge that hill...it's toooooo dangerous."

The kumbaya has never worked and will not work going forward. In life there are winners and losers. And while my candidate of choice may have been the loser, it is those that caused him his loss who will become the bigger losers in the long run. A rising tide lifts all boats."

Wow, you Obama haters amaze me.

You act like it was all wine and roses before him and as if all the issues were his fault.

Wow.

Like Robo-Mitt would have been SOOOOO much better.

Nope, the nation wasn't "wine and roses" before the little dictator took control, but he certainly did nothing to improve things. In fact, he made things MUCH worse.

At least Romney is an American and not a socialist like Obama, who BTW has lied about his upbringing for years. He was taught communism and socialism from an early age from "uncle Frank" his real father...I'd rather have a successful capitalist than a lying socialist in the white house any day!!!!

I'm a pretty good example of an optimist, but even I recognize a lost cause. Getting American's to wake up to the perils of debt and socialism? Lost cause. We're outnumbered, and it's only getting worse. So... to answer your question: it hasn't changed how I prep.

I know a lot of people had Romney in mind, but after looking into him and Obama all I could I honestly couldn't see how our future would be much different depending on which one won. There's nothing any one man or woman can do at this point to turn the tide. The numbers speak for themselves. 47-51% of Americans on some form of government assistance - nearly double what it was pre-Obama. There's no way a President is going to say "No more entitlements!" when these people are now the majority. That is political suicide. Nope - they'll pander instead.

Maybe it's the optimist in me, but at least with all the debt and inflation and focus on natural disasters... maybe more people will wake up and start prepping. It couldn't hurt to swell our numbers a bit.

Now is a great time to reel in a sheeple or two. I was once there - I know a sheeple can trade in their bleats for some brains. ;)

It's 47 million Americans on some form of government assistance, not 47%. 47 mil is like 1/6th, and most of the people on food stamps are the working poor.

Sadly I think the OP is right on point. This Election confirms my fears and only increases my desire to prepare faster. Obama will not try to fix the problem and Romney is a good man but even he couldn't have fixed it, he could only slow it down. So just keep doing what your doing and making sure your family is taken care of. When these people who have made this mess come to my house for food, I'll only have lead to spare.

It was my catalyst, along with other recent disasters. Have been thinking about it for a while, and have done a minor amount of work towards that goal. Am debt free, living with the parents, due to me losing my teaching position and my father developing Alzheimer's. Now it is my time to care for my parents, and prepare for the future.

You won't need much help reducing the heft of your GHB if your wallet is in it...come 2013 the Clown College we refer to as the Congress is gonna let the HEad Clown relieve you of a BUNCH more of your hard earned money.

Here is how to succeed under Obama:
1. Stop working (better yet, get fired)
2. Let home go into foreclosure
3. Stand in line , hands out.
4. Vote Dem in next national elections.
5. Repeat steps 3 & 4 in perpetuity.

I guess I must be in the minority that doesn't view BHO as the problem; but as a symptom of even greater problems. There have been worse presidents in the past and likely will be in the future. He doesn't have all the power, the Senate and House are where the real action has always been.

After reflecting on the types of folks who voted for him and certain reasons why, an even more depressing picture than that of an unqualified elected official is painted.

None of the candidates that I and my friends like for rational reasons ever seem to make it past the primaries. I know, common sense isn't, and there's always a compromise. But politics....this subjective truth and perception as reality thing is just counter to my core belief system. With no desire for the chosen ivory tower people to approve of my hopes and dreams, and very little in common with the current wave, I need nothing from them; yet they need everything in ever increasing amounts from me. So, I'm done with the whole thing..."Going Galt" to Griffland.

I can't say that my preps have changed any due to the election. I am an equal opportunity disrespecter of both the Democrats and Republicans and did not vote for either one for president. I guess I feel that unless we the people get it across to both parties that they have failed us miserably and have sent our country down the road to ruin, it is not going to get any better.

Sandy on the other hand has opened my eyes a lot. I could not believe the number of people who were whining about being out of electricity the first day. Since I have always lived in rural areas, my family and I are always prepared for such events, knowing the utilities and roads can be out of commission for an extended time. It has never been a big deal for us, more like a small adventure/ bump in the road of life.

My focus has always been more on making sure we have plenty of food, water and medical supply on hand and a source of heat and lighting independent of the grid. Almost everyone in my area is used to having to make do & take care of themselves and help one another. In fact, the last time the National Guard were called out for a natural disaster in our area, some of them told my husband that if TEOTWAWKI happens, they are loading up their families and gear to come here. They said that every place they had gone that day had some form of heat, food, water and each home was armed. The elderly were being taken care of by family, friends or neighbors. People were already cleaning up debris in an orderly manner. Instead of having to rescue people, they were being offered coffee, tea or sometimes something a little stouter. They told my husband they were not used to that. Don't get me wrong, after being out of electricity for nine days we were all getting a little tired of it and missed being able to play on the computer etc. But, if need be we could have all made it a lot longer than a month.

I guess the reality of there being a vast number of people who do not have the ability or desire to take care of themselves was more like a fairy tale to me. I now realize that the ability to protect ourselves and our community from people coming in from out of the area is a necessity that is as important as the rest of our preps. I'm not saying we would not be willing to help others, just that we are not willing to let them take our lives or the lives of others in our community in the attempt to take all that we have prepared.

I went down and voted for Romney.

I was really hoping he'd win because I was simply wanting to call the bluff of those threatening to riot if Barry lost.

I have no faith in EITHER "party". Left/Right paradigm. Good cop, bad cop. That's what it is. Romney is the same puppet for the Masters as Barry is.

Still... I cannot help but feel as if "evil" has been unleashed another 4 years.
Romney is, I believe, the least of the two evils, so, I guess that is in a way why he cannot win.

I'm saying, there are people that voted for Romney, because he is white.
As for sure, it is said, 95% of blacks voted for Barry.
The same people that voted for Romney because he is white, probably also voted for him because he never threatened to take away the guns.
It's amazing how people cannot see the connection between the parties and puppet masters. Thinking that just because someone isn't threatening the 2nd Amendment, he is "ok".

This Country will never elect a person it so badly needs. Never again. Well, not under the current Flag and Charter.

This country is like a clogged drain.

You've tried the drano and all the other "easy fixes".
And they didn't work.
Only one thing left to do, take a good hard look at the problems, who/what they are, and get your hands dirty and fix them.

As Barry said in Germany before his first election "A change of Leadership in Washington won't solve the problems" - then he went on to say, "Global Citizenship" will.

I agree with half of his statement. The decisions that will have to be made will be ugly and go against probably most of what everyone "feels" is "right".

Me? I'm an Ends justifies the Means kinda guy..

I voted for Romney because I wanted more time! I see no real difference other than the obvious.

Me and my wife have worked our asses off to put our kids through private school and being responsible with our money. Don't get me wrong I have and do now have a really good life. We spent the better part of twenty years doing exactly what responsible citizens are suppose to do and that has not paid us back in the least. I know people who have gamed the system I even have relative living off the system that live as good as we do, how the **** does that work!!

As I stated we WORKED to get where we are I'm all prepped up and almost debt free and I would like to enjoy some of what we have been busting our asses to get!! Apparently I have to help support the 47 ****ing percent that don't want to work for it can you honestly say with a straight face I should not be ****ed off...really!!!

I don't get it this is like ****ing BIZARO WORLD how is it the people paying for the lazy ****s have to keep paying!!!
