I haven't tried to smoke poison ivy, but I did, unknowingly, get a tremendous case of it from exposing my skin to the smoke from someone who was burning it. No, that would be the absolutely last thing I'd ever try.

 

I worked with a girl that was on a vent for six weeks because she was downwind from a pile of brush about the size of a house that was a about half PI. she lost most of her skin also be cause she blistered so bad.

So, no , no funny stories

 

I was on a job site once when it was being burned and I got it in my lungs I had to be hospitalized with IV steroids to clear my lungs. Bad stuff.

 

We covered poison ivy smoke in nursing school: a case inside the lungs is considered to be a life threatening emergency. Poison ivy inside the lungs interferes with oxygen being transported into the blood stream, so the person is at risk of suffocation.

 

So, I guess you can't get high from it. . .

When I was a kid my mom got a dose of PI smoke from a nearby brush fire. She was highly allergic to it and went to the ER. They got her breathing better again, but she had a tough time with the associated skin rash on her arms mostly.

 

When I was younger some friends and I were out roasting marshmallows around a fire. In the dark one of my buddies accidentally grabbed a poison Ivy vine to roast his marshmallows with.

Now I don't know about smoking it. But I can assure you, ya don't wanna cook anything with it. Holy shmit did it mess him up for awhile.

Yes. Smoke grenade with poison ivy will be pretty efficient in urban warfare.
Legal homemade chemical weapon.

 

What a terrible thing... I can't even imagine.

 

I was down at one of the local beaches a couple years ago... at a state park. Something happened and traffic was backed up forever. So everyone is out of their cars since it was hot.

One guy goes into the under brush to take a whiz... walks barefoot right through a knee-high patch of PI. This stuff grows well there... he must have had some rash within a day or so....

 

Don't do it enough said !!!!!

 

There are far faster, easier and less painful ways to kill oneself than smoking poison ivy. I can't see trying it unless the goal is to spread the misery around while checking out.

 

But you would likely infect yourself preparing it. The juice is oily and aerosolizes.

 

I know with Poison Oak it sucks to chip it up. Had my son throw some in the chipper a few years ago and the dust on us made up for some not so fun times.
