Pipe Bombs in our neighborhood!

So, this is a new, ongoing situation happening right now, Monday, August 2nd, 2021 at 2:30 PM. There are no media links yet, as they are far behind the power curve on this and have not yet reported it. The info is coming directly from neighbors in our neighborhood and our local police.

Multiple pipe bombs have been located under a small bridge in our neighborhood. Additionally, one was apparently set off last night / early this morning between midnight and 1 am today.

This is in a sleepy little town of 12,000+ residents, 15 miles north of our state capitol.

I've been stressing this to my family and neighbors repeatedly, NOWHERE IS SAFE ANYMORE!

If you can legally carry, do so.
Be prepared at all times.
Lock your doors immediately every time you return home.
Be aware of your surroundings and the people around you.
Carry spare mags in your vehicle.

Things are getting stranger by the day.
Please be careful!

I'll post links and further details when they become available.

So, my daughter, SIL and I didn't hear the explosion, but apparently my wife did.

I'm concerned that she didn't wake me, and also that I'm feeling artificially groggy today, the same way I feel the next day after taking Oxycodone or Hydrocodone the night before (which I didn't).

It worries me that I would be lucid enough to deal with a home invasion situation if I needed to. This is unusual, and I need to be ready for anything that presents itself, like pipe bombs, shootings, dead bodies, etc.

Never thought I'd have to say something like that, but these are truly strange times we are living in.

CHANCES are it will make the news if it happened so it will not be a secret, meanwhile a heads up could be given to folks who might be traveling through the area.

You are ONE person in a circle covering over 50 square miles which includes a state capital...no one will look for you in that haystack.
just stating the capital could save board members lives

OPSEC is not mentioning, "...in our neighborhood.." or "...1/2 mile from our home..." OPSEC does not mean you can't talk about anything.

Could have easily been reported as "Explosions and bombs located near bridge in Smalltown, USA, ATF investigating. Links to follow as more develops".

Nobody needs to mention their relation to the location, information or situation.

This is in a city north of Columbia, SC.
Our NBC affiliate has a reporter 'investigating' (according to them) at this time, but nothing has yet appeared on their website.

I'm not overly concerned with OPSEC anymore, as I believe that nobody has any of that anymore. The gubmint knows exactly who you are and where you live, unless you are in the woods, squatting on someone's land, with no phone or Internet connection. If that were the case, you wouldn't be here on this forum, would you?

That said, I don't care to publicize my exact location, either. When additional 'official' info is posted on a news website, I will link that for more details.

My point in posting was to act as a warning that anything can happen anywhere at anytime, even in smalltown podunk USA (like here). If this can happen in a sleepy little villa comprised mostly if senior citizens, it can happen in your neck of the woods, too.

Yep. I had a chat with an officer of the very small community I live in last night. That's another thread but there is no place safe from this kind of thing. And with the dwindling numbers of officers out there, along with DAs who chose not to prosecute certain crimes, it's gonna get a whole lot worse before it gets better.

AFTER 9/11 and all the terrorist threat stuff
I posted a long time ago that if terrorists really wanted to send everyone into terror mode, as in no place safe..
just go out west in one of the plains states little burgs, populations about 1200 with their one police car if that and after midnight go in there open the gas pumps let it flow and raze the whole town to the ground with fire and IEDs
THAT would set off everyone.

That's it, TopGun, but the ATF found a total of 4 devices and had the area cordoned off all day long, not just an hour. Once the FBI and ATF got there, they apparently found the body.

My wife just told me, when she heard the explosion last night, I was indisposed in the bathroom. Figures. I heard a thump, but thought it was a shoe being dropped on the floor. It was indistinct, especially over the BR fan noise.

I have listened to radio scanners for years, and have been amazed how many bodies found and pipe b0mbs, etc never make the news.

Here in my AO, we had 3 kids shoot each other after an argument at a barber shop with a 13 and 17 year old (brothers) dead and another (18?) in the hospital. That DID make the news, and I noticed it with the several hours of helicopters circling nearby.

I have gotten where I am now carrying, even when I "can't". Cargo shorts are great with zippered pockets - just saying.

Very interesting. Taking the presence of multiple devices with the person who had been shot to death, I wonder if there is a direct connection. I.e, was involved in production, was a patsy for distraction, or an innocent bystander that got caught in the middle.

I also look closely at my local area, with our recent rash of diesel fuel pumps being vandalized. I am reminded that this modern civilization is a very precarious illusion. I am curious to see where this leads.

Bobcat, I have been reading through that thread this past weekend concerning diesel pumps being vandalized.

I have to say, I am saddened and upset to hear that is occurring in your area. I hope the authorities catch that eco-terrorist soon, before more damage is done.

I find it to be disgusting and thoroughly abhorrent.
The idiot doing it is probably wearing Nikes and carrying an iPhone...trucked in at one point in time. Just sayin'.

I just hope that everyone takes this in the spirit it was presented to exert due caution to protect your families and yourselves. Keep your head on a swivel. Don't let women or children go out to the store unaccompanied, even if its around the corner for a single item. Always carry your CWP / CCP / (whatever your state calls your carry permits) weapon, and a spare mag or two.

I'm begining to consider a trunk gun, but we switch cars so often, that is impractical at this time.

Anyway, be prepared for anything at any time.
Like the 'Monk' tv show theme song says,
"It's a jungle out there".

Not to hijack this thread but OPSEC seems to be misunderstood fairly often.

Does OPSEC mean you can't talk about being prepared, nope. It means you don't need to tell everyone you meet that you have 200 guns, 100K rounds of ammo and food for 30 people for 10 years stored in your garage. OPSEC means you meet people in trusted forums like your neighborhood, church, work place, little league games, boy/girl scout meetings, clubs/groups, bowling leagues, etc. But you still don't tell these people everything up front, you get to know them. THEY earn your trust, become your friends. And even then when you know these people for years you still don't tell them everything. OPSEC means protecting the integrity of your situation by not being an open book. For example, if you see a military base you know its their. You know that they do "military" stuff and it should not shock you that they have weapons and supplies. Do you know what weapons they have, nope. Do you know how they use them, nope. (could you have has personal access to these areas as a civilian or military person, sure. However, then you would know the agreement you signed to not disclose these details). But for the overall population you have no details on what is inside that installation. The same goes for your local grocery store. Do they have loss prevention policies/practices in place, yes. Do you know what they are, nope. You might see some cameras or one way glass but overall you have very limited details on how they protect their store and the merchandise in it. Those are examples of OPSEC.

Trust me the government and the giant tech companies (social media, search engines, mobile phone, etc) collect massive amounts of data everyday. The analytics that are aggregated from this data can tell a lot about ALL of us. If you have ever had a professional license, attended school (primary, middle, high or university), had a credit/debit card, utility bill (electricity, water, gas, etc), owned a car/home or other personal property, paid income taxes (state, local or federal), had a bank account of any type, used a mobile phone, sent an email, posted on a forum (like this one), ordered items online, driven a car through just about any town in the world (nearly all major roads now have CCTV of some type), rented a car or moving truck/van, received postal mail or packages from UPS/FedEx/USPS, been in the hospital or seen a doctor (with or without health insurance), received a prescription for controlled medication or basically any interaction with the modern world then the government knows who you are. Basically if you believe you are hiding and think the government doesn't know who/what or where you are you really are fooling yourself.

All the best to everyone, stay safe and healthy.

i like to call the following scenario “ why raiding people you found in prepper/survival forums online is a BAD strategy for surviving the apocalypse”.

Imagine some poor sad sack post SHTF decides to “go rambo” and raid some dude he saw posting on an online forum bragging about a the food , supplies and ammo he has stored at his house. The guy posted pics of food that would be enough to feed a family for 5 years. He also posted about his 500 gallons of petrol and solar panels.

Since the guy said he had lots of weapons and had been in gun fights before “Rambo” decides he better not go this one alone and gathers a motley crew of thugs together. He promises them a share in the spoils and convinces them to scrounge up the last of their fuel and supplies to carry out the daring raid on the poor unsuspecting Victim. Of course when they get to his place they find out the guy moved out of his mom’s basement when she sold the house and his only preps consisted of an extra bag of cheetos , a 24 pack of mountain dew and a jennings 9mm with 20 rounds of frangible ammo. He was not a real prepper he just liked to brag about in on the internet.

and all”rambo “ can think is “ man i thought Gecko45 was legit “.

We had that going on around here around 35yrs ago? and around 20 yrs back it was a couple of counties away as well as other states. The 20 yr one was caught ..some Dumb A -- college student.
I won't say particulars as we don't need any copycats.
I think the other ones were kids screwing around.
PB's are amateur but deadly just the same.
Keep your guard up.

I don't have additional details at this time, but will watch the news tonight and check their websites for more info. If there is anything significant to report, I'll post it.

I do agree, it seems at first blush that there may be some complicity involved with the deceased and the bombs. Perhaps just a victim, or an accomplice, or a rival of some sort. Who knows.

I went to recruiting school at Jackson and there's nothing that will surprise me about that area! J/k I know you said outside the city. I'm originally from Florida and thought I'd seen everything and I've realized from being in the military that nowhere is perfect. You have to always be prepared, with a healing dose of paranoia.

OK, update:
My daughter was pulling info from both FakeBook (my name for it) and an app called NextDoor.
I installed it just to read the comments.

Here is a screenshot taken from a post in that app, which was originally on FB (see attached).

Also, the whole 'dead body' nonsense turned out to be just that - nonsense. Some lonely, bored, selfish idiot posted that.

CONFIRMED: 4 pipe bombs planted under a small vehicle road 'bridge' (it barely qualifies for that), and one went off last night around 12:30 am Monday morning. I do recall hearing it, but thought it was thunder. We've had a lot of storms this summer.

Also confirmed: I watched a Ring doorbell video somebody posted that included the explosion as it occured.

Too early for the 11:00 news, but our local Fox affiliate has 10:00 news. I'll update if they provide any new details.
