When I see pics like these it allways makes me wonder if we prostest our government too much will they try and stop us like Syrian goverment is doing to its own people.
I'm guessing you already know the answer to that ;). If there's still any question please refer to the period between 1861 and 1865, when the legally elected legislatures of several states voted themsleves out of a union they voted themesleves into a few years earlier. I guess we're kinda like the Cosa Nostra: once you're in, you're in for life......or else.

That whole situation...

... is horrible. Especially because the lines between good and bad guys are being so blurred. Essentially, for us, it is a propaganda war, and most of our media is behind the rebels. But some are reporting that the rebels are not as they seem. Not that Assad's views are full of peace and Love towards all.

At least as far as the US Civil War was concerned, the line was mostly clear that it wasn't the Good vs the Bad, but the Central vs the Spread Out authority idea. IMHO. So, what is the line over there? Secular vs Religous? Tribe vs Tribe? It isn't clear because so many are saying different things.

Either way, I hate to see this and see how easily it would be for a modern military to wipe out a city if it intended to.

If Sherman had had today's weapons... (shudder)

War is Hell. You cannot believe for one second that it is about fairness. To win, there can be no consideration of mercy, only mission accomplishment. I hope those pics, Mildot, bring home to the constant "Let's start a Civil War" crowd how it could be.

I agree that the idea seems to be tossed around a bit too flippantly here, but on the other hand, there genuinely are situations that simply can't be resolved any other way.
Germany and Japan in the 1930's and '40's simply weren't going to be detered any other way. And a reasonable case can be made that our government, with it's insatiable and ever-increasing appetite for money and power, and blatant disregard for the Constitution, seem to be backing it's citizenry into a corner that ultimately may leave no other option. My biggest concern is that they seem to be preparing for it,as well, but they pretty much hold all the cards, and they don't intend to lose, regardless of the cost.:(

Actually with everything we have about to come down around us here at home, WHY, would we give a rat's butt about syria and people that would kill us if given a chance, screw them!
If fearless leader ,valerie jarret and friends get their way, we will be in the same boat as syria!
