Do you see it as a weakness that everyone knows that you have a ton of food and supplies? How do you plan on dealing with things post SHTF?

I am LDS and live in a great neighborhood in Utah. Most all of my neighbors (95%) are LDS and they DO have their own supplies. When the disaster strikes we will pull together--strength in numbers. Rawles has had a couple of very thoughtful articles on his blog about communities/neighborhoods working together--and I agree. I don't believe that the lone wolf living under a tarp in the forest with his weapon of choice, is a viable option.

This could be a hard call to make when it hits. I believe my first responsibility is for the welfare of my own family. Sharing with anybody else may come with requirements for the recipients, if I choose to share at all.

Not all LDS's prepare or are inclined to. Just like with the rest of the world there are freeloaders in every crowd. I've heard the "I'll just come to your house" from LDS's more times than I care to say. People receive the same wise advice as I do from their religious leaders but choose to ignore it.

Last I heard..........some time back.............was that about 10 to 15% of LDS housholds take the warning to prepare seriously. Probably not far off from society in general these days, even after all the scary stuff being reported.

I'm on good terms with the LDS in my area, as my dad long ago use to be on and frequently talks with the local elders. Not only are the majoirty stocked up here, but they have guns and many of them live close to each other. If anything happens, they have an instant community set up to work together. Chances are they wont have a problem.

Not an LDS member but I do read history. This group, on more than one occasion, found itself literally being "run out of town overnight". Frankly that led to the ultimate destination in Salt Lake City. And, too, they know they're a minority group. Given those two variables it would be sort of silly, in my opinion, for them NOT to encourage preparation.

I have friends who used to live in Taiwan and some from Hong Kong. Their reality was they never knew when (not if) the mainland might choose to invade. Their answer? Gold and diamonds. Very portable wealth. As one put it to me, and I don't mean to be indelicate here, but this is how he put it..."if you can't shove it up your butt, it's not a good investment in your future" (meaning of course having to bug out....)
