The original of course, with Charlton Heston, in the theater. It's laughable now, I have it on DVD, but it left a lasting impression on me. If I see someone approach me wearing monks robes, whiteface and sunglasses I'll be crossing to the other side of the street, fast!

That movie scared the bejesus out of me and have been into prepping ever since, a very long time, sure looks like it's gonna pay off very soon. My son is really into it too, together we will be a force! No one wants peace more than a vet but the thin veneer of civilization can fall away quickly, gotta be prepared. I enjoy interacting with like-minded individuals so this site is a natural for me.

Yup. I saw Omega Man when it first came out. I was like 9 and it was probably the first apocalypse type movie I ever saw. It might have started me on this journey.

My first movie like that was "Last Man On Earth" with Vincent Price. I was probably around 8 years old. It scared me when his wife died then came back and wanted in the house. I have watched it again in the last few months. You can watch it on YT.

 

The original one was a B&W movie with Vincent Price called the Last Man On Earth.

One among many. It seems the part I recall was when the lights came on around the building and they couldn't climb the building. There was a movie with giant rabbits that struck me early on. The thing dug through a storm shelter. What about the Tarzan movies and Danial Boone? Good stuff.

The movie with the rabbits was, "Night of the Lepus" . Fantastic! Well, fantastically awful. LOL!

 

Omega Man encouraged me to seek out a S&W M-76. Was never able to score one at a reasonable price.

 

It did not make me a prepper, I was like 8
But it did reinforce this fascination of building defenses lol
If a zombie outbreak happned I go to my nearest fort, castle

But castles and forts
Are Just cool.

 

that movie did the same to me….i had dreams / spent time thinking about the movie & i remember the black chick was hot! the empty highways / roads were thought prevoking.

The closest to the Matheson story was the original with Price. The Matheson story wasn't great, and the Omega Man version was more funny than scary.
Never could figure out why they'd spend millions making movies out of a bad book and not make a version of Alas, Babylon, which was my main influence.

 

The Book of Eli is a really decent movie!

Quite a few survival items in it.

speaking of Last Man on Earth, Omega Man and I am Legend, isnt it about time we get another modern remake?
I would think we are ready for a new version.

 

I thought there was talk of a sequel to I Am Legend.

Nice movie, especially the parts where he drives around and watches Woodstock. No CGI, so I think they shot them early morning but couldn't edit out the traffic lights still working.

I just forgot that last year was its fiftieth anniversary!

 

I do not know where my mom was when I happened to turn on that movie. Or my sibs, because I remember seeing it alone and they don't remember a thing about it. And they would have.

Totally freaked me out. I don't remember how old I was when I saw it, but... yeah. Just you mentioning it gave me a quick flashback to the Mathias guy freaky eyes!
