Russian sub in trouble near Gibraltar: Russian attack submarine 'at risk of explosion in Med after serious accident'

The part that really gets me is: “There are no spare parts for repairs or qualified specialists on the submarine, and the crew is unable to fix the malfunctions." And I'm like, What the ****?!? Why not???

How does a nuclear sub sail without spare parts or qualified specialists?!?

Edit: Kilo Class. It's not nuclear. Is that an excuse???
Sub crews can't fix everything and there's no space to carry every spare.

From a cursory glance, sounds like a tank leak or from an unisolatible line. It's not like you can weld those at sea and the tank full. Empty it out then there might not be fuel enough to get to port.

What I find strange is this "explosion threat" warning, it´s a diesel submarine, diesel doesn´t self ignite that easily, nor does it react that violently with many chemicals, a leaking fuel line can be a major nuisance, but an explosion risk?

Battery problem? Charging a lead acid battery releases hydrogen. There will be a lot of low voltage cells arranged in series to achieve a high voltage. Each cell is probably ~ 1 meter high and 1/3 meter across and weighing in at 1 ton each.

We'll never truly know what's going on.

Yes, but why "pump out the fuel" then? Unless the diesel is leaking into the bat. compartment, but even then, that´s a WWII problem and even then subs didn´t explode because of that.

Would this not initiate an immediate response from NATO countries with nuked? ALL NATO countries with nukes?
Does anyone know?

With the talk of leaving NATO and not backing allies...

If Britain were nuked I can see them retaliating with at least double the nukes that hit them. The US would back Britain more than they would anybody else, but it would be a measured response. France as usual would sit and cheer from the sidelines. Honestly, I can see a limited nuclear exchange breaking up both NATO and the EU.

France can´t afford to do that anymore, they´d probably respond equally, Germany? Good question, there´s a reason why Germany has over 600 Taurus cruise missiles and other stuff, whether they would be unleashed to cripple Russia´s infrastructure and logistics, or not is anybody´s guess...

Batteries are an explosion risk Diesel subs are chock full of them.

ISW SITREP for 9/27.

Key Takeaways
  1. Gasoline shortages continue in Russia and occupied Ukraine due to repeated Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil refineries.
  2. Ukraine’s Western partners continue to provide military aid to Ukraine, including through the purchase of US weapons.
  3. Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) Spokesperson Maria Zakharova absurdly blamed Ukraine on September 26 for the September 9 to 10 Russian drone incursion in Poland and the September 13 Russian drone incursion in Romania.
  4. European officials continue to report unidentified drones operating within NATO airspace.
  5. Ukrainian forces recently advanced in northern Sumy and western Zaporizhia oblasts. Russian forces recently advanced in the Dobropillya tactical area and near Siversk, Pokrovsk, and Novopavlivka.

At the start of WWI German submarines stopped merchant ships which carried weapons to the UK and captured them, those were the rules at the start, when those ships started fighting back, or got escorted by warships, the submarines just sank them, different story, different escalation.
It was the British Q ships and then they acted scandalized the Germans sank without warning. Same thing though if you're going to arm their enemy expect them to hit you.

Blackouts in Belgorod.

Translated from the Governor's TG page:

"We are currently assessing the damage. There are power outages, quite significant. Now we are dealing with the consequences and will take maximum measures to connect everything, where there is an opportunity and a need, to backup generation, and where possible, reconnect to meet the needs of the population and our enterprises."

Big if true. Ukraine can't attack Russia with American supplied weapons unless given permission to do so. Or that was the case at one point.

Belgorod is only 30 miles from the Ukrainian border. So it's well withing HIMARS range. If you listen closely to the vid above, there's a sonic crack just before the sound of the explosion which it a signature of HIMARS.

Sure sounds like it could have been a HIMARS. Good. Screw Russia and their proxies.

There’s a World War coming in the next days and weeks. The earlier we are out in front, the better our chances. I don’t want it. We don’t need it, but I also am not in a position to effect it. Along for the ride, am I. Praying and hoping.
I even quit my job and it ends on 10/3.
