Just when we thought we would have another hurricane-free season, along comes Joaquin. Now it's time to dust off the disaster plan and get ready, just in case.

Time to batten down the hatches.

prayers for all ya'll just north of us...frankly we could use the rain dump in our drought striken area...but looks like it'll head further north before tossing weather inland..if at all.

still, will be sure that all the spare gas cans are full, fill up the fresh water tank on the travel trailer, that sorta thing...
I have a couple cases of batteries onhand for the flashlights etc anyway..and with the great LED rigs these days...never a worry about being in the dark.

my small genny..the honda eu2000 gets enough use (and non-E gas) throughout the camping seasons, that it's good to go... i admit the bigger genny..a 6500...is neglected and I wouldn't be surprised if I'd have to get into the carb..clean the jets and float bowl before i saw it want to come to life as it should...but hey..if you're home from work with the power out...it gives a guy something to do

Only advice i can give for you if you live along the coast is put a few cases of water, cheep 2 way radio (one of those baofangs), some life vests and an axe (to cut yourself out though the roof) in your attic. If you choose to stay put you might need to get above the water line of the storm surge, and the only way to go is up into the attic and out the roof. That is what we do along the gulf coast now here in Louisiana though you problay dont have to worry about the snakes n gators like we do.

I'm bugging out for this one. Not really I have to go out to north central PA to help my mother move and check my woodland to see if the bears are active.

I doubt it will amount to much in my area as I just bought a nice new 3.5 kW inverter generator. That's usually good for a couple years insurance against usage.

Yep. Quite a few models show it coming right into the Hampton Roads area. I'm heading to Gloucester tonight to secure my camper just in case.

The bad thing around Richmond is the ground is already saturated and they are calling for several more inches before this thing hits. If it does hit Va Beach / Hampton Roads they say we could get up to a foot of rain by Monday. Add high winds and it could be a big mess.

Of course with this storm coming in we just moved into the house on the shore full time and sold the house inland.

Still live with my mom and the new ******* she is dating convinced her she needed to live on the coast...in a house that got three feet of water during sandy....which now has most of our possessions in it...

I'm still working more north and inland and spend a couple nights up there a week,so if it looks bad Friday morning when I get up, I'm renting a u-haul and driving down here and getting as much stuff out as possible.

I'll be praying for minimal drama and minimal damage.

Interesting how the maps are all over the place. They generally have a better idea this close to touchdown.

I live in Southern Maryland...my shack is about 15 ft from the lower tidal Potomac. its about 5 miles to the mouth of the river where it dumps into the Chesapeake Bay...River is 7 miles wide looking out my sliding door. I am packing up my goods and hoping for the best. Calling for 5-8 inches of rain before the projected hurricane hits. Saturation of the ground will probably be our biggest issue. Trees will fall as soon as the wind picks up to gale force. I have done ok in a couple hurricanes...Isabel and Sandy. I bought a 10KW generator a couple yrs after Isabel. If my house is still there on Monday...y'all can stop by and watch Monday Night Football on the back deck :) Seriously if this thing comes up the Bay to the south of me and the wind is coming from West/South West... I am in trouble. I built rock seawall (commercial grade) about 2007 but all storms of magnitude have been off shore winds. 5 ft tide increase with 8 FT WAVES....BAD NEWS. I'm going to hope it misses their projections and goes out to sea to peter out.
