I've been searching the news.
Has anyone seen any glowing reports of success from Obama's latest jaunt?
I'm still lookin'. I know if there were breakthroughs, the media would plaster it on the front pages.

So far, the headlines read like these...

Obama's economic view rejected on world stage...

NYT: Obama’s Glow Dims on Trip to Asia...

UPDATE: G-20 refuses to back US push on China's currency...

Sarkozy questions dollar’s dominant role in world...

IMF Shadow Looms; Irish Take Pay Cuts to Avoid Bailout...

Obama fails to seal trade deal with South Korea

Maybe he's waiting until he returns to announce all the good news?

Yeah, that must be it. After all the aircraft are parked, all the entourage' has dispersed, Michelle has unpacked all her ill-fitting clothes ... then Obama will announce a press conference, give us the happy news, then head off on a much needed stay at Martha's Vineyard.

That's the impression I'm getting. He gets no respect. pretty much wherever he goes.
He's made a lot of our western allies angry. He's out and out disrespected England and Germany.
He's not going to support Isreal.
Our monetary policies are upsetting people on a global scale. Our debt and deficit are.. astounding and unsustainable.
Even if if his latest tour had drummed up some billions in trade deals,... it's a drop in the bucket. This 'magical mystery tour' was weird from the get-go.
I really don't think he cares. Well, he doesn't care about this country or our western allies, in my opinion. I judge that by his actions.

C'mon folks.. start posting the positive result of his trip.
I could use some good news. :)

Wsierra, you forgot this one:
http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2010/11/obama-india-trade-deals-create-50000-jobs-workers/

If you get past the $300 mil-a-day fallacies and understand why he is there, maybe you could appreciate it a little bit more. When you explore the problem of a trade-deficit, it becomes clearer why Obama went to Asia.

Is there a major catastrophe on our soil that Obama wanted to escape? Nope, but you may have believed that last Saturday.

Can you read the news and not badmouth anything Obama does? Because if you can't, ask yourself if you are part of the problem why our country is so divided, and why politicians have to play dirty politics and such...

Thanks. I hadn't seen that article.
50,000 jobs for the USA.
There are about 100,000 - 125,000 Americans 'coming of working age' each MONTH in America. 50,000 jobs. How much did Obama's jet fuel cost for this fiasco? This trip has been a bust.

Not impressed.

You sound like you're fairly young.

No, I'm not a part of the problem. I've been a part of the solution since 1964. Divide the country?.. you are clueless.

How many times have you read the US Constitution? Do you even understand what this country is supposed to be?!

Politicians play dirty tricks because they are dirty. Moral men of character would not behave like this under any circumstances.

I wouldn't know where to begin to help you see why we're in this shape, and why Obama is not a leader,.. he 's a global lightweight.

Find some more articles,... I'll read 'em. I'm still looking too.

Practice what you preach WSierra. You say I know not what this country is about. Well, maybe. But I do know at least, that the burden of proof is on the accuser. As far as this thread goes, you are the accuser. And all the "proof" you have provided are a couple opinions and some links, and no deep concise thesis of exactly why Obama's trip is a bust. 50,000 jobs is great, ok. Hell, 50 jobs is better than 0 created. 100,000-125,000 are entering the workforce? Well you forgot to mention how many are LEAVING the workforce every month too.

I don't defend all of Obama's policies, and I don't know yet whether this Asia trip is a bust because i don't have all the facts YET. Therefore, I will keep my mouth shut. But I wont hesitate to call people out who cherry-pick facts and claim truth. Bide your time, lets put faith in God and Obama that this trip will pan out for the positive.

Real investors make money in up and down markets, they don't listen to the "noise" so they can get a clearer picture of the overall trend

It is all more of the same and that is all we will get for a long time… if we are lucky. Oh well he DID promise us change. I guess achieving third world status does count as change. After all imagine how many jobs will come back home once the dollar is worthless. Although I doubt too many people will like working under the new conditions. On the bright side it will solve one problem… once we are broke enough the arguing over liberal vs. conservative spending will end… we will only be able to afford to be conservative.

I think Obama is doing the best he can with what he has to work with and what he believes. Problem is that his agenda is not based on what the country wants. Going to Asia and attempting to sweet talk some trade deals to reduce the trade deficit is step one, which must be done before tariffs, ie diplomacy first guns second. Returning with 50k jobs is fairly silly based on the cost to get those jobs, we see this time and time again, like a $700m grant to Dow for their new solar manufacturing facility to generate a whopping 1100 jobs in 3 years...absolute silliness...50 jobs here 1000 jobs there is not going to put back to work the 14million without jobs, the only way that will happen is to bring back our manufacturing and the only way that will happen is through very tough trade policies (the dreaded protectionism posture). Funny how the G20 is so worried about Protectionism and pontificating at length about how they all need to agree not to go there, but in reality ALL of them are going there, albeit covertly but going there nonetheless.

In the end every nation is going to do what is best for their own nation, Obama can take trips and have press conferences but at the end of the day he is really powerless without a country and congress that will back massive strong trade policy reform and enforcement. Which is of course not going to happen because it would not be profitable to the corporations that pay for our politicians campaigns.

Don't get me wrong, not defending Obama, certainly not an Obama fanboy, quite the opposite really but in this case he really went there with no leg to stand on and nobody from the US could have done any better.

I think Obama is shocked at this point. These kinds of trips are done when lower level diplomats has ironed out the details of a deal. For him to walk away with nothing from the G20 and South Korea is a major upset.

The G20 bashed the US for its QE2 program because our policy will force other nations on a path to deflate their own currency to keep their exports attractive. The only country that I could find that was sticking up for the FED's move was Canada.

BUT!!!! The President had a surprising Presidential moment during the trip. He was asked about the Debt Commission report and his response was for once respectable. He indicated that it was to early to tear apart the recommendation of the commission and there were going to have to make tough cuts if we wanted to reduce the debt.

We had a special guest speaker in college who was a General from one of our War Colleges. During Q/A I asked that exact question about our deployments in Asia.

His response was that the Japanese government pays for almost all of the Pacific theater operations. I think he said something around 70% but it has been a long time.
