Been spending a lot of time at the range lately, trying out diffrerent guns, (favorites so far, Glock 17 and a Kimber 1911 Raptor) and after the range today, hung out with some buddies talkin bikes boobs and beer when the topic turned to guns. One of the guys saya "I got a Ruger 22/45 target pistol I'll sell ya for $125". Hell, I'm on it! .22 is a hell of a lot cheaper to shoot paper with than .45 or even 9mm, so what the hall.

It's stainless steel, and very little use. He just had too many .22's he says.

You got an incredble deal.

I stood outside Turner's waiting for them to open one Friday morning because their ad was $199... only 25 per store... NIB on the Ruger 22/45.

It's the best 22 handgun I've ever owned. I'm not the world's greatest shot and that puppy lets me do tight groups on the inner circle of the target at 25 yards. I know this isn't an accomplishment for good shooters, but for me it is a real achievement. I could actually hunt small game like rabbits because the pistol allows me that level of accuracy.

Don't even try to take it apart to clean it. Get air spray cans from the hardware store. Scrub it as best you can then air spray. It does the job just fine.

And find a rig that let's you carry it in your backpack. You will never want to go campng without it. (I keep it in a big ziplock plastic bag in my pack and carry a empty vitamin bottle with 200 CCI mini-mags.) Beware of rain on campouts.

You got a good deal...I just bought the latest 22/45 this past week. Ruger knows how to make 22 pistols...their semi auto pistols aren't that great, but their revolvers and 22 pistols are solid.

That being said it's a PITA to disassemble their 22 pistols. Thankfully, I am not going to do it that often.

Went to the range today and shot a box of Winchester 36gr plated hollow points. This gun doesn't much care for it, I had 34 rounds that simply would not chamber. Really annoying, and I'm glad I only bought this as a range toy- yes I know .22 isn't muych on stopping power, but I'll take volunteers if anyone wants me to shoot them with it.

That being said, I could hold decent groups firing one hand, left hand, rapid fire. (The range I went to today has no issues with this, just no draw from holster allowed.)
The 299 rounds, (out of a box of 333) that would chamber fired just fine with no FTE.

I need to find some ammo that will work better in this gun, and then I can enjoy it more. One of my friends was cracking wise about the little .22, calling it nothing more than a BB gun. Of course, he doesn't own ANY firearm, his wife won't let him.I'll shoot .22 all day, any day, and still have enough money in my pocket to buy dinner on the way home.

Sounds like a great deal. :thumb:

That's the video that helped me when I bought my 22/45 RP.

In an effort to end the malfunctions, I suggest giving everything including the magazines a thorough cleaning

Then I would try ammo with different weight, bullet type, brand and see if it clears up the failures. I've had good luck with Federal and CCI is always good.

Good Luck

Yeah, the video made me lol too, and notice how even though he obviously had torn this gun down many times, he still had to fiddle with it a bit to get it together. Not a great design feature.

I'm going to get some Federal and CCI ammo next, see how it works. I was going to get some Remington, but another customer at Dunham's told me it jammed in his 10/22 a lot. Maybe I'll try it and see, the stuff's cheap.
