I work in health care and have to do inservices every month online per company policy. I was doing my monthly inservice this morning and from there was a survey asking if I had my own insurance and did my employer offer it, if i didn't have any was I going to buy some and if I didn't buy any would I pay the 1% or $95 which ever is greater fine. I skipped on this survey. I'm going to catch hell from work about skipping it but whether or not I have insurance is no one's business but mine and my healthcare provider. I don't have insurance through my employer because for my wife and I it would come out to $185 a pay period. that is a pretty big chunk of change per pay period. I wrote my liberal senator about this, not very high hopes on this since the last time I wrote him it took 3 months to hear back from him and he basically copy and pasted my email and sent it back to me. I thought we lived in a free country I'm beginning to think we live in the USSA. Stupid gov trying to force me to buy expensive crappy insurance or pay a fine, I refuse to conform to their friggin socialist commie scheme to make everyone a worker drone that depends on the government for everything. I'm not a welfare person carrying my obama phone and asking the gov to give me money, I work very hard for everything I have why should I have to buy something I don't want? whew, I feel better now

I feel your pain broseph. But you might as well smile and bend over and grin and bear it without the vaseline. :D:

We just changed our policy this month. 2 adults self employed. Premium=$430/month for $10K deductible + dental/vision. 100% pay after deductible is met.

It sucks, but whatcha gonna do? :juggle:

Health insurance costs are ridiculous and it is infuriating that someone can "make" us carry health insurance. On the other hand, the cost of one emergency surgery or pregnancy completely overrides the cost of the healthcare insurance.

It bugs me to carry homeowner's insurance when I have to pay it each year. I've never had a claim in the gosh awful number of years I've carried homeowner's insurance. But it will sure beat trying to replace everything on my own also if something should ever happen.

BTW, for us (married couple, no dependents) health insurance runs $910 a month with a $2500 ded. and $5000 out of pocket cap. Aren't we glad it's a group plan... It is a ridiculous percentage of our monthly income as we are on a fixed income. However, husband had two kidney stones last year, one of which blocked the kidney. By the time they treated the first, and obliterated the second, the hospital/physician/prescriptions ran slightly over $100,000! And he only had to spend one night in the hospital. So I write the insurance check each month and hum the song about the "cost of living's high and going up." :)

Well if you'd get off your feet and sit on your azz you'z could has yoself a free phone, a free crib with free food and free healthcare, free edgeumacation, what part of this don't you understand????

I understand it's not free, cause I'm paying for it (it's only fair) or (but, it's for the children) or (some other BS excuse) and when I'm done paying for everyone else, I'm left wondering if I can now afford to pay for my own stuff.

From what I've read in the past about PPACA, the IRS is fairly limited in its ability to actually collect any fines and/or penalties on individuals who chose not to comply with the law...

"IRS Enforcement of Individual Mandate Destined for Failure?
Official Congressional Research Service Finds IRS To Enforce Mandate As A Tax, But Lacks Enforcement Muscle"

"...Unlike With Other Taxes, IRS Has Less Ability To Collect Penalty Payments2
“Section 5000A(g)(2) of the IRC limits the means the IRS may employ to collect the penalty established in the section. First, the taxpayer is protected from either criminal prosecution or penalty for failure to pay the penalty. Second, the IRS is prohibited from either filing a NFTL [notice of federal tax lien] or levying any property in an effort to collect the penalty.”"

The full report...

Sort of off topic, but in reply to another comment...
I keep hearing about how "great" Canada's healthcare system is. Yet, a couple of the Canadians I know, who were waiting to receive treatment, spent as much time as possible here in the USA with the hopes they actually would get sick(er) while visiting the states so they can receive treatment sooner than they will in Canada.

Dang, do you guys actually read? The only way the IRS can take money from you is if they owe you any at the end of the year. Owe none, take none. Get better at taxes or get your Vaseline ready as was suggested before.

I'm pretty good at taxes. So is our CPA, and tax attorney.

As good as we are, we haven't figured out a way to not pay taxes yet. We usually owe and are due nothing at the end of the year, but we still pay our silent partner tens of thousands every quarter.

There is no tax dodge for anyone. Rich, poor, middle, ... it does not matter. The popular rumor that the rich loophole and cheat their way around taxes is BS. Total BS. The rich get soaked more than anyone else while they are regarded as cheats and liars and scoundrels that owe more. Democratic ignorant poor person vote getting BS. What a country. :headshake:

Maybe I am not communicating well. I am not saying dodge taxes. I am saying don't get a return check at the end of the year. If they don't owe you anything it will be difficult with the current legislation for them levy fines. They couldn't pass legislation that gave them Free reign so they made everyone think they could. If you read it, you will find a few interesting tidbits. Balance your taxes and don't allow them any pennies they are not entitled to and they have no way to levy this one.

Just last week I was listening to online radio talk show.... 1170 out of Tulsa..... I can't remember which talk show it was? But anywho.... they managed to get their hands on somebody that attended a HealthCare conference, and was using their cell phone as a recording device.

I *THINK* the speaker was Paul Krugman? does that name sound right? anywho..... got him ON RECORDING..... DEATH PANELS AND SALES TAX WILL PAY FOR THIS PROGRAM!!!!

I completely and totally RESENT having to pay for a system who's only goal is to DENY ME CARE!

#1 way to save yourself - become a public worker - gold plated cadillac healthcare, tons of paid holidays, overstuffed pension plan, better salary than comparable private sector jobs. And you are not responsible for any stoopid thing you do at work.
That's not true at all. You can be a politician and opt out, but the average gov employee cannot.
