These are some very telling pictures.

The one that captured my attention the most was not weather related though. It was the picture bellow, were cops are once again herding people against their will, just as they did in New Orleans two years ago.

The story of what happened can be read here

What bothers me is how little (if any) freedom people have to make their own decisions. Will Big Brother always think that it's "his" job to save us from ourselves?

ok............

lets think that people are able to make their own decisions on the status of their house. most will be alright and then there will be those idiots that start their stove and burn down a whole neighborhood.

everyone here can agree that the majority of people are just flat out dumb. think if they didnt have mandatory evacuations how many people would die because of their stupidity. now you make think good....thin the herd. and then one of your relatives is one of those people that dies.

There is so much wrong with your reply that I have to break it down into sentences and respond to each.

lets think that people are able to make their own decisions on the status of their house.
Who else should make decisions regarding your private property? Can't you see that if your line of thinking is ever accepted the next question asked will be "let's think that people are able to make their own decisions on the status of their bodies"...

most will be alright and then there will be those idiots that start their stove and burn down a whole neighborhood.
There is no power and everything is wet as wet can be. If someone can start a fire in that, he can probably walk on water and turn water into wine. If you just mean in general, well, millions of idiots across the globe are starting their stoves as we speak , so the statement is irrelevant.

everyone here can agree that the majority of people are just flat out dumb.
That might be, but as of now, the only solution to stupidity is to let people err and learn from their mistakes.

think if they didnt have mandatory evacuations how many people would die because of their stupidity.
It's everyone's right still to die of their own stupidity. I'd rather die of stupidity then of a gun shot, by a cop trying to protect me from my stupidity.

now you [may] think, good[!]....thin the herd[!] and then one of your relatives is one of those people that dies.
My relatives are free people and have the right to die of their own stupidity.

I will end by saying that "those who would exchange freedom for security get and deserve neither" .

The story I read about that photo said the guy was told he could not go back to his home yet, the guy got mad and actually tried to run over the police officer, pushing him down 3 times with his truck before the police officer drew his gun. The man also had a history of run ins with the police. I think the guy should be glad he still breathing. If I were the cop and you hit me with your vehicle even one time I would shoot. Hitting a cop with a vehicle while trying to go around a road block is considered assault with a deadly weapon (1 ton truck is a deadly weapon), which the driver of the vehicle was charged with

have you seen the vids?! they smash down your door then shout "fire and rescue!" its insane. imagine anybody telling you you have to evaquate your property, and in katrina they made you leave your pets behind!!! my heart races when i imagine myself in that kind of situation. glad i live high and dry.

Well... In a situation like that, there may very well be elderly or disabled people who may legitimately need rescue and who may not be able to get to the door to answer. I can applaud them wanting to rescue those who need it- but there should be a better operating procedure so that those who don't aren't unduly inconvenienced (by things like broken windows/doors etc.) I mean- take two seconds to knock (loudly) and if someone yells that everything's fine- bugger off- then they should listen

I agree checking houses for people unable to evacuate. But this was not the case! Many many people evacuated only to come home and find their doors busted in and windows busted out. This has not made the news because it is very sensitive but there are reports of missing firearms and even a report of missing silverwear (real silver).

Now either law enforcement sucks at securing evacuated buildings or law enforecement themselves are looting these houses. (I would go with law enforcement confiscating firearms and maybe helping themselves to anything else they find)

Like I said it's still hazy and sensitive subject and the news barely touches on it. But the people are in a rage as houses hardly damaged by the flood are ransacked by police "searching for helpless individuals"

Folks, if you don't think the police or military will kill you to take your guns post any large emergency you still have time to educate yourself.

Did you hear the guardsman say out right he was prepaired to kill Americans? (second video by Declan)

Thanks Declan for posting these vids. Nothing makes a point like seeing it with your own eyes.

Well sure they are prepared to kill people- if someone points a weapon at them, I'd EXPECT them to kill the person. Just like I'd expect the police or military to get shot if they try barging into someone's home without a damn good reason who has weapons . If people don't threaten the police/military, they won't have reason to fire on them. If the police/military stays out of private residences without invitation, they won't have a reason to be threatened in MOST cases. Common sense here.

What people should be doing (and I'm sure we'll see more of in days to come) is to sue the police and military for illegal confiscation of weapons. If that doesn't fly legally- eventually I wouldn't be surprised to see civilian uprisings in situations like this and perhaps more widespread. *sigh*

If I see you with a gun, and I don't know you, then it's in my own best interest to use caution and assume you do not have noble intentions. Especially during a disaster, the criminal element of society is out there.

The police have to protect everyone else from the nutjobs in this world. If they set up a checkpoint and you try to go around, then you get what you deserve. Stop being a douche, cooperate, and we can all move on.

Check points are unconstitutional, as are most activities conducted by the so called "law enforcement" class these days. We truly have the wolf in charge of the sheep and most of you are just fine with it.

Unless we are now discussing China or the former Soviet Union, it sounds like you have given up and have come to terms with the rape perpetrate by the ruling class on a once free people.

I wonder how many of you think that what these cops did is justified.

Cops pay 3 a.m. visit to tell man his door is unlocked

LAKEVILLE, Minnesota (AP) -- A Lakeville man says he feels violated after two police officers woke him up at 3 a.m. to tell him his door was unlocked.

Their surprise visit was part of a public service campaign to remind residents to secure their homes to prevent thefts. Usually, officers just leave notices on doors.

But they went further in Troy Molde's case on Thursday. Police entered the house where four children under 7 were having a sleepover, and then went upstairs to Molde's bedroom.

The officers told Molde his garage door was open, the TV was on, the keys to his truck were left in the ignition and the door to his house was ajar.

A police spokesman says the intrusion was justified because the officers' initial door knocks went unanswered, and they wanted to make sure nothing was wrong.

He says the kids inside -- Molde's two sons and two nephews -- were afraid to wake their dad, so the officers went upstairs.

I can't believe how brazen they are becoming. This is nothing more then an exercise in getting us all used to the fact that cops can come into your house to check on your activities whenever they feel like it. The last time I checked, having your door open and your tv on at 3:00 am was not against the law.

these national guardsmen you see in the background are clam and collected.....nothing says police force for the next 20 years like 1.5 million soldiers serving and taking part in a police war....they are not playing and you do not scare them....like i said comply and do whatever then leave

Again I just ask, educate yourselves. Look at what happened after Katrina and what is happening now after the floods.Start by watching the videos posted by Declan. At the end of the video watch the related videos offered with them.
Thousand of guns were seized from citizens in NO. Most were not returned, many that were returned were damaged or had parts missing.
Lawsuits were filed. The seisures were deemed unlawful but no one was held accountable for their actions.
Destroying the front door comprimises the homes security and endangers all who will live there after the danger has passed. It also adds to the work and expense of cleanup.
Will the local stores have enough locks to replace those destroyed? No way. So their destruction adds time to recovery.
If seeing police combat clearing homes in your neighborhood doesn't bother you then what comes with it may.Suppose you are sleeping upstairs after a long day of trying to keep the water out of your home and moving valuables to higher ground.Your front door is broken in. You jump up.Grab your cell phone and a ball bat and run to the top of the stairs to meet the threat. Your a threat, Bang or more likely Bang Bang Bang...etc your dead. If you survive you now can add repairing you door to your to do list.
