Number one on my list is the Oman getting re-elected.

 

I think economic collapse is the obvious one at the moment.

 

A worldwide natural disaster like an asteroid strike WILL happen. It will probably be hundreds of thousand years in the future. A major regional natural disaster like the Yellowstone Volcano eruption WILL happen. It may be tens of thousands of years in the future. (Or it may be tomorrow.)

A major Black Death type pandemic could happen. I don't think it's very likely, though.

The rest of the stuff on that list won't happen.

 

Terrorist attack on the power grid causing a 3-6 month power outage in regional areas. No cell phones, no gas pumping, no bank access, and no water systems and no jobs! Not to mention no access to food.

China has nothing to gain from invading america but everything to lose. For better or for worse, their economy depends on our economy. Ours tanks, so do theirs. The only people I could see attacking our soil or people is Iran and or N. Korea. All that being said #3 seems the most plausible from your list.

 

er...Sidewinder hit it on the nose. Number one is economic collapse.

A close second will be the fallout from the upcoming Persian/Israeli war; with our primary concerns revolving around the intense anxieties that will arise between the US, Russia, and China. The direct effect of the actual Middle East conflict will rate second to that IMO.

 

Power blackout.
Car accident.
Cyclone, flood, fire.
Getting robbed.

Nope. You think practical and don't fall into the hollywood fueled trap that many people do.

 

The internet, cable and satelite fail. The citizenry rebel and anarchy reigns. Kids stare at TVs, cellphones, ipads, etc etc etc. and have to overcome their fear and dread of yes "the outdoors".

 

I don't know where your from, but here, kids/teens can't stand NOT being active.

Fuel shortages
Food shortages
Mass rioting
Natural disasters such as flooding.

A combo of two or more of the above.

Not as glam as being invaded in the night, tying your necktie round your forehead, and picking up your AK to kill swarthy foreigners but much more likely.

 

I am going with Zombie Hordes!

Mostly because that is the funnest possibility of the bunch.

 

How the SHTF will begin and how it will progress

Economic collapse in europe...causes the dow to plummet, the dollar weakens, banks are mobbed, money is hoarded, looting starts, civilians are shot by police, a revoultion begins small scale, it spreads across a region of the country, it escalates (think occupy campaign), lawlessness grows, militias form....

 

For me I guess that there are two that I think are most likely.

1: Economic Collapse. But allow me to explain. As we speak, very close to 50% of the people in America recieve some sort of Government support. From what I have read, by 2016 or so they expect there to be more people living off Government support, than there are people working to pay that support. At what point do the workers say "To H**L with it" and just quit working as well. I can't speak for anyone but myself, but I for one am sick and tired of my taxes going up every year so the have nots can have what I worked my A** off to get. I would bet though that there are plenty who would agree with me.

2: Some type of MAJOR airborne virus. Over the years we have seen Bird Flu, Swine Flu, Haunta and plenty others. If one of these (or something similar such as Ebola) were to go airbourne, how long would it take before the bodies were pileing up in the streets? My bet is it wouldn't take long.

I am not to worried about invasion. If that was going to happen, the USSR would have done it years ago, and had the best chance at success.

 

There are so many likely events that can happen and they can easily effect each other:

Economic condition is obviously worsening; when inflation hits hard people will begin to go without basics. Among the basics that begins to be neglected is hygeine and other health issues. People will be living in squalor, giving a chance for various diseases to fourish.

I totally agree, the huge "What if" for 2012 will cause some type of hysteria on the closing months of this year.

Right now I think that an economic crash is the most likely SHTF situation on our horizon. Unfortunately, I think that it will be brought on by another major event like a war with Iran, terrorist attack (Al qaeda or rogue state), or the Euro imploding.

Just seems there are many major threats in the world that could set the dominoes in motion.

are the same thing. That means that the most likely country to invade the US isn't China (as number 2 suggests), but is the US itself. The most likely reason for doing so is #1.

If we have to resist a tyrannical government, the most likely candidate is our own.

 

I believe that any event, natural/man made, that causes the trucks to stop for a protracted period of time, is the SHTF moment....

Our society/economy is so dependent on "just in time," shipments of everything from gas, to parts, to meds, to food, that if we were to have a localized, regional or national truck stoppage, it will go to he!! in a handbasket quickly....

So, any preps that i do to minimize/protect against that situation, can be used for many others, as the instigators of the trucks stopping...

China is already invading. Where does most of the crap we buy come from? China will gradually own us.

3. Global health pandemic "Black plague .ect"

The USA already has an obesity epidemic and all the associated health problems.

I prep so I don't have to worry about what will happen and when. Personally I think economic collapse 1st, middle east war and possibly ww3 next. Just my opinion.
