This might not be the “correct” time to fly the POW flag, but I felt it was right to do so. Ill get two more clips tomorrow to fly Old Glory with it.

I want to say a huge thank you to those that are serving, have served, and the Military families that have sacrificed ALOT. You ALL are Heroes unlike the others that society lifts up to that position.
My Dad was a Marine. I was so proud of him for that, that when I was little, I took his government ID, (I apologize I don’t know the correct term for it), and cut and pasted my picture over his and carried it around.
I remember at 15 or16 me and my best friend wanting our parents to sign for us so we could enlist early. Our Moms said heck no. To show them we were “men”, and could do it, we did pushups, pull-ups, then ran from my house to my friends. Two miles. Maybe. His mom had to drive us back to my house as we vomited out the window…. Dumb kids.

In all seriousness. I have a great honor, at least I feel it’s an honor. My Dad passed two years ago. One of his best friends who’s been in our family since I was little, is a retired Marine. After my Dad passed, I asked if he would sit down with me and talk about what he went through in Vietnam. I asked numerous times and he declined. He didn’t want to talk about it. I quit pushing, but recently he reached out to me and asked to meet. I get to start hearing his story this Tuesday.
Its unfortunate that the history he’ll pass on to me is being lost, but I’ll be able to carry his story on.
God Bless!!

I like a great many other vets do not need thanks. It was Honor to serve America. I do not consider anything I did to be heroic, I just saw what I did as part of the Job that I signed up for. But your appreciation of those fallen brothers, in all branches of the U.S. Military is greatly appreciated and thank you for recognizing their sacrifice to ensure our freedom.

Don't apologize, I was just saying it was my Honor to serve you and all other Americans. It was a tradition in my family that the oldest son Enlist and I felt extremely proud that I could carry on my family tradition. But it truly was an honor.

Traditionally, Memorial Day is a day to remember and commemorate Veterans that have fallen in the line of duty. But I have recently started adding in those that served as First Responders. Be it Police, Fire Fighters, EMT's Paramedics or any other form of Hero that sacrificed their life in order to protect those weaker than them. Their Sacrifice is not forgotten either.

Thank you to all who served. My dad was a WWII veteran and my neighbor was a Pearl Harbor survivor. They never really talked to me about their experiences even though I tried very hard to get them too. I guess the meaning of war is hell made them not want to relive it. They both have passed on but their sacrifice and honor guides me everyday.

I too say Thank You to all who have served. Being the wife, Mother, sister, daughter-in-law of veterans, along with cousin of several others, veterans are special to me in more ways than one.

For my 23 third year and sardog's 29th. we flagged cemeteries for Veterans Day. We do the ones out in the country in our area that no one else does. This year though with the price of gas and the way we were feeling we could only do 9. Some years we've done 12-15. We've driven as much as 125 miles one way to put them out before then, that again to go get them.

As has been stated in this thread technically speaking, Memorial Day is the day we honor those who gave their life in service to this country. The day we honor all that served is Veterans Day. I for one keep the two apart as tomorrow does not honor me but rather other family members who fell in battle and others who did the same. My two cents...

This is how I have always felt. As A Veteran I never look for thanks and don't expect it. Since this the day for the Fallen I will keep my other two cents out. May the fallen look down and see there are those of us who miss and understand what they stood for.

And if you fly a flag tomorrow, please do it right and fly it correctly.

"Flag etiquette on Memorial Day is unique. At sunrise, flags are to be raised to full staff briskly, then lowered to half staff position where they will remain until noon.
At noon, flags are to be raised to full-staff and will be displayed there for the remainder of the holiday.

If you are unable to display the flag at half staff on Memorial Day, proper flag etiquette requires that you display your flag with a black mourning ribbon to show respect and acknowledge the somber meaning of the day."

Nothing chaps my butt more than seeing improper display of the flag on days that are sacred- at least to some of us.

I fly a flag most days since it has a Solar Light I don't take it down and unfortunately it has been raining for the last two days steady. I was out of town I had my wife Take the Flag down so that it wouldn't be in the Rain. Had her and the son fold it properly. I am hoping it will start to clear before Monday.

My thanks to all those that have given all, to those that will not be forgotten, to those that I never knew.

I grew up in this small town and saw his marker years ago while on leave but never knew him.
Thank you Edward.
