The members of this board seem like an open minded bunch and generally think a little different than the average citizen. So, I decided to post a poll to see what people think about the legal status of marijuana.

Let's not get this thread locked please. I don't want to debate the subject or it'll end up getting the thread closed. Please just vote. Feel free to share your vote.

Thanks!

I think making it legal is a bad idea, the system works fine now. Basicaly the Laws just keep it from being a out of control substance. its not for everyone. If you cant handle the product the laws expose you or limit you access. Checks and Balances.
futhermore, any man made substance that is primarily a toxin, death penalty, period.

The only problem I have is when folks say pot is not addicting or anything like that. Then I pick up a paper or see where someone has been killed trying to stop the flow, or where so many are killed in the Mexican border towns.

I have before, just as many in the population, but have not in a very long time. It dawned on me that by doing so, you may in some small way be responsible for others loosing their life. I just think that's a pretty high price to pay for myself or anyone else just for the sake of needing a little herb.

Don't get me wrong. I love a nice drink, but that is done responsibly. One maybe two in the evening, and then only a couple of times a week. I know, someone will say alcohol is just as bad. Sure it may be, but I never drive when I have had a drink, and it's not against the law.

Seriously, what gives one the right, who smokes dope, to say the illegals are wrong to be here because it's illegal. Folks, illegal is illegal - period.

Let the states decide not the federal gov.

Just a brain storm...
•Legalized for personal use and personal cultivation for those 21 years of age+
•Commercial cultivation, distribution, manufacturing, strictly licensed and taxed by the state (overseen by SLMA-State Liquor & Marijuana Authority).
•Commercial print, web, radio and television advertising prohibited.
•Illegal cultivation, importation, unlicensed sales & distribution prosecuted.
•Online sales of marijuana prohibited.
•Driving while under the influence of marijuana prohibited.
•Sale of marijuana to minors prohibited.
•Smoking of marijuana limited to private residences.
•Distribution over state lines prohibited unless the neighboring state has also legalized sale.
•Hemp cultivation made legal, treated as a normal crop.

Overall just treated in similar ways that alcohol control is looked after. Just for the record, I'm not a user of either.
In a perfect world of personal liberty; 100% legal, 100% deregulated.
But that is obviously unrealistic within the current state of affairs.

However I don't think under the current establishment, legalization of marijuana in a large scale will ever happen because of the billions in profits which are made every year by the factions involved; mexican cartels, arms traffickers, corrupt federal agencies, Prison Industrial Complex, and mega banks alike whom highly benefit from the prohibition.

I think it should be illegal for non medical purposes, and dealers should face strong repercussions. I think medical marijuana should be legal, however I think the qualifications to receive a medical marijuana license should be strict.

My history...
When I was real young my sister came to me and told me "your gonna get high some time, it might as well be with me your first time". We went and got high, and then it turned into an everyday occurrence. By the time I was in junior high I was dealing, and I did so all the way through school, and afterwords. I took a break from getting high and stayed clean for about 3 months. Then in 2004 I had a major seizure, I was foaming at the mouth, quit breathing and turned blue. An off duty EMT stopped and brought me around, the doctors said if it wasn't for him I would have died, or been permanently brain dead. After the EMT had revived me, an Ambulance got there, my sister turned thank him, and he was gone. The other EMT's said they never say him, I later searched for him, looking at fire departments and all the EMS services in the area...But never found him. He is one of the reasons I became an EMT.
Anyway I am getting a bit side tracked. The neurologists said that my brain walls were too thick from all the concussions I have had. They put me on meds, but the side effects were horrible...I either couldn't go to the bathroom, or felt like harming others or myself. Finally they put me on medical marijuana, it took 4 months for me to get my brain walls thinned enough, and I have had to relearn a number of different things (like vocabulary, parts of my speech, etc). However I stayed on marijuana far beyond the period of time that I needed, and I abused the system.

It wasn't until later on in life that I actually got off of weed (as well as alcohol, and other poor habits).

I only share this so that you know that I have experience in this matter.

So by your own admission you should be getting out of prison in like 2 more years for dealing, clearly a criminal mastermind.

Most pot you buy comes from within your own city, that crap about empowering mafia is completely retarded and if you do buy their crap it really sucks, so if it were legal noone would bother buying it from the mexicans.

Also if it were legal you could grow your own, just like any other herb.

I think all drugs should be decriminalized, and yes I mean ALL of them.

I forget you guys have a lot stricter laws down there, here anything under a oz is a $100 misdemeanor. Anything under 10 plants isnt worth the time to arrest over. Up until the 80s it was legal here. Ive never met anyone who had a medical reason for it that wasnt abusing it. So I dont see the need for that route but there may be cases I havent considered. As long as you dont use at work I dont have a problem with people using pot. I have a problem with anyone outlawing a native plant from being used on a personal level.
Theres about 50 Psychotropic drugs with way worse side effects that are prescribed way to often for people not to mention alcohol abuse, Ive never seen anyone get high and want to start a fight or kill anyone yet.
The only reason it is illegal is the Gov has not found a way to regulate or tax it. I still think it shouldn't be legalized but the States should make their own decisions about it. If its not crossing state lines, its not the Feds business, Imho.

Ah my friend I see things through a different vantage.

I know an Emt that is disgusted with a patient that he has had to deal with multiple times. He is disgusted because she can't afford some of her medical needs, and yet she is always high. However this lady smokes every day because its the only way that she can coup with the fact that her father beat rapped her and her sisters for a good portion of their lives. She tried to get help and told her mother, and her mother called her a lair and whore and kicked her out of the house, and for the next few years she turned tricks to make it by. She saved up enough money and moved away and started her own land care company, and broke her back. She is now a Christian, and married, but her husband can't hardly even tough her. She smokes to deal with her physical pain but mostly to numb the memories of her past...

Another Emt I know hates responding to a certain mans house. He says why should we take care of someone that doesn't care about themselves. "The guy has a bad liver, but every time I come to his Find house his floor is covered in Taka Vodka Bottles". This is true, but what he fails to realize is that the guy is in horrible pain, has next to no monthly income and very expensive prescriptions. That bottle of Taka Vodka is only $6 which he can afford much better than his prescriptions.

I have learned to never criticize or condemn another, cause we have no clue what walk of life others are coming from.

If and when the SHTF, smoke em if ya got em! If a man/woman of legal age wants to smoke weed or even crack in the privacy of their home (with no children), they should be allowed to do so w/o intervention. Same goes with sex and gambling between consenting adults in the privacy of your home.

I am against the illegal drugs but a man's home should be his castle and sanctuary. Once you bring it to the public domain, then you're fair game for LEO.

I smoked it for 14 years before I got bored with it & quit. The biggest problem I see with weed is all the dealers want to sell large amounts like an ounce or half ounce. If it is very potent you can sometimes find quarter ounces.

Weed is mildly addictive so I think there would be far less people addicted to it, if it were legal & people could just buy a gram or two. Legalizing it would also take the drug cartels out of the equation & thus make it easier to keep out of the hands of children.

#14 ·
I think it usage and access should be treated more like alcohol.
Keep it out of children's hands and proscribe it's use while
operating motor vehicles. It seems to be relatively safe to use.

Nearly all medicines have toxic, potentially lethal effects.
But marijuana is not such a substance. There is no record in
the extensive medical literature describing a proven, documented
cannabis-induced fatality.

By contrast aspirin, a commonly used, over-the-counter
medicine, causes hundreds of deaths each year.
In practical terms, marijuana cannot induce a lethal
response as a result of drug-related toxicity.
In strict medical terms marijuana is far safer than many
foods we commonly consume. For example, eating ten raw potatoes can
result in a toxic response. By comparison, it is physically impossible
to eat enough marijuana to induce death.

Drunks can be violent and I consider them to be dangerous to others.

I say if you’re an adult and want to **** your life away by being stoned all the time you get to do that here in America.

Legalize, tax and regulate the hell out of it.

Use the money collected to promote anti-drug education.

Get caught selling to kids or near a school and go to jail for a MANDATORY 5 years.

Its time to reap the financial benefits from these idiots and take that current source of revenue away from the cartels.

#16 ·
I tend to agree with what your reply says...as far as sellin to kids,if your an adult, mandatory 5 yrs?at least,2nd time-20+,3rd time, bye bye...I voted with legal with age, alcohol, cig's stipulations...Portugal is tryin this all legal thing....But We ain't Portugal...ain't no manuals to go to....

I think drugs should be legal.

I believe drugs do damage to our society, but I believe the drug laws and the enforcement of those laws is doing even more damage. And much of the damage done by drugs, and drug users is a result of the war on drugs, not the drugs themselves.

And then there's the hell the war on drugs causes in drug producing countries.

I think the damage to our society would be much reduced if drugs were legal.

I don't believe the argument that drug use would skyrocket if it was legal. That hasn't happened in the countries where drugs have been legalized.

For the most part I also believe that people should not use drugs, especially the "harder" drugs. That includes tobacco.

Yep, that's what I said, drugs should be illegal, but people shouldn't use drugs.

But alcohol and marijuana, in reasonable amounts can even be beneficial.

At the moment the only drug I do is alcohol. But if drugs were legal I would probably enjoy an occasional batch of Magic Brownies.

Here is my question. If Marijuana is illegal and SB forum rules, rule #7 states,
7. Do NOT discuss topics of any illegal nature. If it’s against the law, it does not need to be on this forum
, then why is this thread even on here?

I'm sure a discussion of how to grow marijuana, or how to smuggle it, would be deleted.

As would bomb making instructions.

Or meth lab instructions.

But this is a discussion of whether drugs should be legal or not. That sort of discussion is not illegal, for now.

The federal government should legalize it as a cash crop. I have a plan of action. The government legalizes it but only grown by them. Take the non violent low risk offenders in good standing out of our over crowded prisons and put them on work farms to grow and harvest to reduce there sentence. Then they package it and sell it like cigarettes which will create a new source of income for our taped out government. Now if people could get it legal while supporting our own economy we would put a real damper on the south american drug cartel's resources and free up government agencies to controlling the drugs that are actually harmful to the general public. In short this plan of action will decrowd our prisons, boost our economy buy creating jobs and federal income, and make it so the war on drugs may actually accomplish something. all that being said lets not forget that the decision to make it illegal in the first place was mainly based on the propaganda campaigns started by William Henry Hurts in the twenties when he stood to loose billions in his timber industry is canibus was made legal due to its cheap and renewable resources which can not only be used for recreational or medical use but the fact that the plant can be used to make wood products that are sturdier than that of timber when compressed as well as making clothing. The issues that originally lead to this unjust law are still there however we as a people have access to the information to decide for our self, unfortunately most people simply beleave that what the goverment tells them is the gods hofortunalynest truth with now hidden agendas. it is a simple matter of finding the facts and using common sense. And lets not forget the prohibition of the twenties which lead to the highest rise in organized crime in this countries history. Face it, prohibition will never work as well as control and moderation. When i was in high school it was a hell of a lot easier for us kids to find weed than to get our hands on alcohol. Not to mention if people could walk into a store and get it they wouldn't be exposed to drug dealers who are more than happy to get you hooked on anything they can push on you. It would make it less of a "gate way drug" as it is called

Sweet Calamus oil

Calamus oil is a mixture of Sweet Flag and sweet cain.

Its scientific name: Acorus calamus

It is most prevalently grown in Napal.

It was the same oil that was used throughout the bible, and it does not have marijuana as an ingredient.

Here is a picture of what it looks like
