Well...it just might be.

M855 sucks at everything. It's more expensive than M193, it's terminally inferior to most every other round, etc. It also isn't as good with barriers as many more modern designs, with the ONE EXCEPTION of homogenous hard metal barriers (like steel plate, but once it goes through, it's pretty well done, anyway...)

HOWEVER...

It's the principal of the matter!

Just placed an order for 500 projectiles for $60... just in case. I don't shoot much green tip because I don't like it but I'll be damned if I'll not have it because they said I can't

The entire purpose of this is to create a shortage and drive up price. It is to make it impossible for civilians to get surplus ammo inexpensively, and to shrink the production to prevent the manufacturer from producing more than military and law enforcement order, so it can't be sold cheaply and abundantly.

Obama tried gun control and got his pee pee slapped. He couldn't kill the guns, so he's starving them to death. This is how illiberals work. "Wehll, if yuh like your guns, you can keep your guns. Ah'm not tryinna take yer guns away, Murrica, Ah just want 'common sense' gun control, like making the guns completely useless."

Exactly right.

M855/SS109 is one of the most common forms of 5.56x45 ammunition currently, used in the most common types of rifles owned by the types of people most likely to resist government expansion and aggression. Anyone who thinks this isn't a shot across the bow is kidding themselves.

There's no body armor that M855 will pierce that standard lead-core .223 won't pierce. What's to stop them from declaring it devoid of "sporting purpose" tomorrow?

Legally, there appears to be nothing stopping them.

The ATF is banning M855 green tip ammo. Since AR platform is producing pistols, I guess they will consider the green tips banned.

I put this here instead of the gun section, because everyone needs to know what these jackasses are doing.

M855GT is classified as armor piercing capability. Except for hunting Cape buffalo or a critter with a comparable boss (headbone), or just feeling the need to pierce some body armor, why the hell would civilians NEED them ?

Exactly, the 2nd amendment guarantees the citizens to carry the same muskets and equipment as the standing Army.

I see the pattern

Ban guns

Ban body armor

Ban ammo

Wait, they are not throwing their. Crap away.

They're stock piling using our tax money while giving us the middle finger.

So, let me get this straight, we peasants shall be prohibited from purchasing or manufacturing ammo that can be effectively used against a belligerent elite?

This does not sit well with me. The right to keep and bear arms is the final guarantee that government will remain benevolent. By implementing such rules, the balance of power continues it's slide towards enforceable authoritarianism.

This was inevitable. The moment the 17th Amendment was ratified, this became a certainty. If you're not familiar with the 17th, it's when the States lost their representation in Congress. We began electing Senators by popular vote and not appointed by the States' legislatures.
